Still 100% support from me. I do think that behind the scenes shenanigans are having an effect. I am baffled that the gaffer is out of contract within months and no signs or rumours of a new contract. That must weigh heavily on his mind because I really think SCP wants to be at Charlton. I doubt the security is a big issue as I think he would walk into another job. The board is unfathomnable . If they don't want SCP next season then sack him. If they do then secure him now. This uncertainty with the manager and playing staff is something I just don't get.
I think the manager needs some help - Dyer offers nothing as a number 2 - Paul Hart should be around on match days - I don't see it as a weakness to receive experience!

How can you possibly know that Dyer doesn't offer anything ? Ridiculous comment from a fan without a clue.

How do you know what Dyer offers? We had the same with Day under Curbs when people blamed him for bad runs!
Paul Hart is an excellent youth set up manager. You would not want anyone other to manage the youth set up than him. If / when we get new owners who want to invest in the youth set up, I would want Paul Hart as the man to oversee the investment which would bring the Academy to a category A investment.
As a manager for the main team, there is no evidence from his record that he can manage the team. Forest had an excellent youth set up under Paul Hart but dismal first team under his management. It is not fair to Paul Hart to ask him to consider that job.
Lets hope that we get to a point of investment with no owners and that Paul Hart can help the Charlton Academy to Category A status.
Keith Peacock was in the director's box yesterday, but towards the end of the match he did go down to the bench area. I wonder if he went to give some advice.

It was a disappointing performance yesterday particularly because it was against a team we would like to beat at home for once. But there is still genuinely no other manager I would rather see at the helm than Chris Powell. The man helped guide the club back into this division and we more than held our own last season in the end. That places him well in credit for me. Aside from this managerial achievement, I believe he is a man of integrity with a love for this club. That also places him well in credit for me. This season looks tougher. There is clearly a whole heap of stuff going on behind the scenes, and we are down two key players through injury. Whatever the reasons for our defeat and performance yesterday, I believe Powell will take an honest look at where the problems lie, and he will try to resolve them as best he can. That's my take on it anyway.
He turned things around after his first half a season. He won the league after a dip in form in March of that season. He was questioned several times last season but he turned it around and across the season we had 4/5 decent runs of form.
There's no poison atmosphere like there was at the end of Parky's reign. He's not got to the stage where Pardew was.
He's got the options to change things, particularly Stewart, Harriott and Cousins - one of his own signings and two academy players he's brought through. We've also got Yann, Solly and Cort to come back. We can go 4-4-2 or 4-5-1, both formations helped get us some good results last season. There may also be games when 3-5-2 is the right choice.
The aim is survival, just like last season we just need a good run of 3/4/5 games every so often. He's proven himself often enough in the last few years to get more time to turn things around this season.
Sacking Powell would be a disaster. He's had no money, again, and still largely has the league 1 team plus a few loans and Church. He's persevering because he's a fighter and lives our club. He can only work with what he's got (although I agree, Pigott shouldn't have had a game yesterday).
If nothing else, I know how much it pisses off the wrist-slashing knobheads on intotheworldofpain.com.
(Hello fellas - nice to know you're still lokking in on the top Charlton forum, even though it's apparently shit - oh, and you're all banned. TTFN!)
Just had to smile at this. For a forum that is so shit they spend an awful lot of time talking about it and slagging it off. Jealousy is a terrible thing. We are all a bunch of c**** don't you know, for having the temerity to support Chris Powell.
Still got my 100% support. Nobody better is available. Nobody better looks likely to become available. If somebody better did become available, we couldn't afford them.
Chris Powell is not infallible, but he is a bloody good manager and he knows and understands this club as well as anyone. Keep up the good work Chris.

I'm sorry but he hasn't got mine. For far too long now he has chosen to play a defensive, ineffective system to win games. He has now started to leave our better & most creative players on the bench. It has to stop NOW. Unless he goes to Burney playing an attacking 4-4-2, with the likes of Harriott & Stewart on the wings, Cousins & Hughes in midfield then he hasn't learned anything at all & should consider his position. The only good thing to come out of Saturday;s game is that the world now knows just how pathetic we are and even CP can't let that continue.
I like it that @ValleyGary is the voice of wankers. He has a picture and everything.
Love going on there as it makes me feel better about my life and who I am as a person. That probably means I need taking down a peg or two. Ha!
That's how I feel about it. When life is bad I look on there and realise it could always be worse, a hell of a lot worse. But then I guess I need taking down a peg or two.
Also, I love the way they are trying to make something out of ValleyGary (apparently) not going to games.

So Powell is picking the completely wrong midfield? Our best 4 midfielders are on the bench and he is picking our worst midfielders? I agree Cousins over Stephens, and Hariott if we are not playing 3-5-2 (which got us a point against Watford and 3 against Leicester) but Pritchard and Jackson need to be there.
Our problems this season started because none of Hamer, Solly, Morrison, Wiggins or Devite were playing particularly well and made some silly errors which cost us goals. Powell tried to make us more solid by playing five across the middle and three centre backs. It made us more solid but also robbed us of the attacking flair that comes with playing wingers and the pace of those players when attacking. It can be an effective system to upset the better teams, but can really upset the fluidity of the team which in turn eventually leads to a lack of confidence throughout the team, which is what we saw yesterday. Rather than mess around with formations, he should have worked on sorting the defense out first. The best way to get confidence back now, is to play some exciting football, create some chances, score some goals and get the fans singing again.

I only go there if there is word that someone called Angeldust has posted something. He seems to be close to the boardroom. Last time I went there, they had a questionnaire going, the exact same as one on here. They had 8 respondents.

Tell me what he does? He never challenges CP does he? I never see encouragement or animation? Why is he there?

I clearly don't know for sure - it's just that he seems to offer very little to the cause. Pat Rice was often slaughtered for not challenging Wenger. I just want our coaches to make a difference when the chips are down.
"We lose Powell, we go down" is a very good phrase to explain our position. He's a really good young manager whose still learning and yes he makes mistakes, but I think everyones forgetting than in his two full seasons we won League 1 with triple figure points and last season finished in the top half of the table with a team barely changed from League 1. Give him time to do his magic and I believe he'll pull us through.
Excellent post. I would still support the guy even if we went down. Do not have rose tinted glasses but have got to look at the limited funds he has to work with.

Don't throw the towl in though as a fan.
Remember the amount of times we thought we was in crisis last season??
The incumbent manager thought they made a contribution and wanted them around and that is what counts. No more no less.
