Said after the game Wilson at RM with Solly behind him might work. Green will always have good and bad games, Wilson never hides and will be supported by Solly bombing forward. Worth a look at when Wiggins is fit, especially with Waggy out on loan and Haynes presumably with a permanent dodgy hamstring
Barnsley were playing with a lot more urgency, followed up every loose ball and looked like they had an extra man all game. Luckiley for us for all their good passing they were pretty shocking in front of goal, but obviously got a goal in the end.
Better team won, but not a great team. We made them look a lot better than they were.
Now for us. I have been a berater of Wilson, i still stand by my statement that he cannot tackle, but he looked very good going forward and his passing was lot better today. Learn to tackle and I will be converted... promise.
The defence did ok, got in some good blocks. I would like to see the goal again to work out how he got through. Midfield except for Stephens and Razak (both in first half only) were non-existent. Jackson might as well have not come on. There were huge gaps in the centre of the park. Kerkar was getting disposessed far too much, Green went missing completely in the second half like he got told off at half time and got the hump. Hollands had a mare, sorry i don't think he is right for this level which i am disappointed about as i really liked him last season. Stephens in the second half i think was being asked to do far too much and just couldn't keep up with everyone. Not sure why they took Razak off as i thought he was playing well and i really thought that free kick was gonna smash the back of the net to pieces. The team really looked like they missed the 5th person.
Fuller, i really rate. I do think he would rather go it alone than work as team, but i'd have that in a player if they have the ability which he does. Shame he is gonna be out with a hamstring injury. Gonna be gone for a while. BWP i don't think he used the ball in anger. Not his fault because he wasn't being fed the ball.
Prichard could have done with coming on a bit earlier, but it was a tough call who i would have taken off between Green and Kerkar. I probably would have taken off Kerkar tbh.
Referree did not help. His decisions were shocking, his consitency non-existant. I thought it was a pen even if just for a tackle from behind. But if we scored goals it wouldn't matter who the ref was.
Need to sort out the organisation in midfield. Once thats done i honestly think we will be fine.
Good to see opinion changing on Wilson, although I still think he is right midfield not a defender. Also earlier and elsewhere on this forum I thought we might have got ourselves a Jimmy Flloyd Fuller. Well, today he came close to having that name on his shirt. Bet he's out till after Christmas!
That is the first time this season i have been dissapointed with the performance. Lacklustre all over the pitch only Wilson & Morrison come away with any credit in my view. Stick on penalty for me & i also thought the little blonde fella bossed the game.
Yeah the penalty certainly looked it to me, the ref signalled that the bloke played the ball, presumably first, but I didn't see that happen at all. If we'd got the pen it would have still needed scoring. I thought Barnsley just edged it, and their keeper made a great low down save to his left late on to get them their points. However we need to keep on keeping on, and learn from this and work hard...what we don't need at any cost is to have a go at the players and football staff, they are obviously trying pretty hard in a new league, and it is sometimes better to learn from adversity rather than get complacent.
Pretty much agree with the majority on here . Scrappy, flat performance from the lads but also from the home crowd. Very disappointing all round.
Barnsley just didn't let us play ; 2 or 3 men on us as soon as we received the ball and we couldn't find a way to deal with it. In fact, we did better when down to 10 men.
Can't believe no-one has mentioned our 2 great free kicks - on another day at least one would have found the net. But it wasn't to be today.
Everyone is pointing the finger at the midfield and even I can see that's where our problems stem from. But we only have a finite number of players so SCP will definitely be earning his crust trying to find a combination that works.
We got what we deserved out of that game - nowt as Barnsley fans would say.
The back 5 were ok the rest of them looked as if they didn't want to be there with the possible exception of Kerkar.
As for Fuller how can a professional with all his experience still not choose the right stud? He spent more time falling over today than doing anything useful. Very disappointing from a player of his undoubted talent.
The ref cheated us out of a penalty but that does not disguise our overall ineptness compared to Barnsley. We held our own, just about, playing 4-5-1 but were comprehensively outplayed once we went 4-4-2 and the midfield went from barely visible to completely invisible.
I can recall just 3 occasions that we worked their keeper. Razak's free kick, which was an excellent save to an excellent free kick, Pritchard's weak shot and the Jackson scramble near the end.
That tells its own story. No surprise though that we ballsed it up on a promotion day so, as SCP would say, we move on.
Same old story, the weaknesses in the midfield have been there to see since last season and at this level it's a real problem.
We weren't great in the first half but we were competing. Poor choice of subs unfortunately, we switched from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2 and they completely controlled the midfield. Perkins sat in front of their back four and had plenty of time on the ball.
Our back five got in some good blocks and tackles, as they did last season, but in this league they're under more pressure.
Green and Kerkar are inconsistent, which to be fair is what we expected. Would help if we had an alternative on the bench. Agree with others that I'd like to see Wilson at right midfield.
We don't create much but when we did it was often through crosses - but too often we didn't have enough players in the box. Hollands/Jackson's lack of pace doesn't help at this level, it doesn't seem to be part of Kerkar's game and it's one of Green's weaknesses.
Seems a few are disappointed with Razak. I doubt playing behind a striker is his best position. I'd also say he's young and like any player needs time to settle. He seemed to have a bit more pace about him than the rest of our midfield, something our team generally lacks.
Fuller's injury is a problem. We need the extra man in midfield to help us compete. That leaves us with Hulse our only real option as a lone striker. Fuller might pull off something when on his own, haven't seen enough of Hulse but I don't think he's that type of player? Will need support but that's difficult with our slow midfield.
We had a combination that worked with the recent away wins but today we simply didn't threaten... Wilson looks good coming forwards so either him or Green right mid but can we have Solly back at right back asap?! Wiggins or another loan or anyone to play left back... two centre backs solid as ever. Centre mid? Razak looked OK to me and Stephens not too bad... I've watched him since Villas interest and can see why he was rated though perhaps not today... Jackson in front of Hollands any day of the week for me.
Basically the double substitution was forced by having the wrong starting line up... which is strange given recent results and loan signings settling in? Kerkar did something second half but overall I can't believe we waited until 80 minutes to really get into the box...
And can the next forward to get injured please wait until everyone else fit?! Given what's happening in the back office, I sincerely hope we can get some home wins on the board in November else it ain't gonna be pretty
Was sat with B F C fans and they were surprised Rasak went off. They also said 'we (BFC) have learnt to knock it about well, but have no killer instinct in the final third. We thought we would lose today, because we are awful in defence.' Can see us being like them in a year with regards to knocking it about, but still feel today was a chance missed.
To get promotion it needs 2 players in the team who can beat a man, plus more pace and movement overall.
Atmosphere in the Valley was embarassing.
Favourite BFC song (to tune of 'I love you Baby') 'my bobby hassell I'd let you shag my wife'!
Whether it was 4-4-1-1 in the first half, or the 4-4-2 Diamond in the second half, we were out-played in midfield. Barnsley were quicker to the ball, dominated the central areas, passed the ball more accurately and were able to dictate the tempo of the game. Their game-plan worked perfectly, they stopped us playing from the back, blocked up midfield with their 4-2-3-1 system and we were never able to get going.
This is a tough league and we are struggling to deal with opponents in home matches. Unless we come up with an attacking style of play to create more chances and score more goals, we will be in a relegation battle. We can't rely on away form to get us up the table. Perhaps we need to play Hulse at CF and mix-up the play a bit more.
How green is to blame for the goal is unbelivable at least he tracked the player back , I don't want to see him defending in his own box especially on the byline , where are the defenders , he should be unloading players to defenders to do there job , all ball watching, you wouldn't want Paul scholes defending. Worst defensive display this season . Give Barnsley some credit they marked green out of the game made charlton play on the left side where they were comfortable with kerker. First half green played on the left side where he had more joy then was smashed and the player was booked. Hammer should also be ashamed for his rant and clapping performance .
can't be bothered with a long, drawn out diagnosis of what went wrong..............just want to say that we are abject & inept up front and wouldn't score against an under 11 side !!!! Tell me how many times did we make their goal keeper work ??? From memory he saved a 2 free kicks (1 in each half) and a couple of shots very late on. Just not good enough.
Only thing saving us atm is that Ipswich & Perborough are very poor and Paul Jewell will be gone by next week. I reckon if we finish 4th bottom it will only be because a club goes into admin and are docked 10 points............
It felt as though I was leaving the Valley after a Parky game and the word 'crap' seemed to be re-emerging. We knew the midfield needed strengthening and today it really showed just how much that is the case. CP had said he wanted to get back to back wins to give the kind of confidence boost that can carry you through a season. So it's going to be tough, no point in getting on the players backs, we just don't have enough quality and everyone knows it.
Fortunately 4 year olds know no better so my brother inlaws girlfriends sons first visit to the Valley was enjoyed.
During the years I have followed Charlton, we have often been outclassed but come through with the points through commitment and determination. I found today there was no closing down, Barnsley were allowed play pretty pretty passes all over the park, but to show their ineptness there was little penetration.
We were set up wrong from the beginning, this was never going to be a game such as Blackpool away and we quickly lost the initiative. To be fair to CP he recognised this, however as soon as he recognised it he should have changed it, if only taking off Holland and bringing on BWP or Hulke.
I can understand Green coming off but Pritchard was not the man for the job, however it was unfortunate that Fuller pulled a hamstring.
Overall a lot of work is needed in the coming weeks and this season is gong tobe hard
Bizarre half time changes from Powell. In the first half we weren't great but we contained them and attacked ourselves. However, taking the fifth midfielder out and bringing Wright-Phillips on surrendered the midfield to Barnsley. It was clear that Perkins was running the show and BWP put him under NO pressure all game. I hate the 'lazy' jibes aimed at BWP but he offered nothing today. Didn't look sharp, didn't chase, merely left a hole in the pitch that Barnsley could exploit through the middle. I watched with a Barnsley fan and he seized up every time Wilson got on the ball towards the end as he had the beating of his man. Could have done with Hulse on to try to convert some of the crosses - BWP and Jackson as the targets was worthless. Kerkar also caused trouble but had no final ball. All in all not a day to remember
Just read the BBC site and they rated the possession 50/50. Unbelievable! We were given the run around today by an excellent Barnsley team, well organised by Keith Hill. I think they had close to 70% possession. When we got the ball we played direct and looked dangerous but all too often gave the ball away. In the first half I thought Green or Kerkler covered Wilson well and that Wilson was defensively sound. Hollands appears to have lost his confidence and was our weakest player today. I thought it was a penalty and also thought the ball had just crossed the line but the lady next to me said no. (to the ball crossing over the line. There was no propositioning from me!) The team tried hard but were not able to get the ball off of Barnsley. As Keith Hill says, You can't win without the ball. Real worry that Fuller will be out for quite a while.
we are a team devoid of attacking ideas or penetration very very weak kerkar must be the tallest fella ive ever seen who can jump lower than his own height when trying his damndest not to head the ball hamer should have done better for the goal i thought razak looked ok we made barnsley look like brazil , how their fella didn't score in the first half when it broke for him on the 6 yard line i'll never know fullers injury scares me and i think we're in a season long relegation battle

desparately disappointed with our central midfield, we lack creativity big time.
surprised he brought Razak off, surprised we didn't start 4-4-2.
very disappointed all round, thought the players let the fans down and the fans let the players down.
"Charlton have now failed to win any of their last five league matches and offered little in the encounter."

Typical of us this season!!
