  • wilson was poor defensively for 80 mins. decent last 10 attacking. expect him to replace green at leeds
  • Two evenly matched sides- they scored, we didn't.
If you weren't there, don't even bother to comment.
  • Poor goal Green is a defensive liability.this isn't a reaction to the goal said so first half. Powelly sub's shockin we needed only one. BWP for Hollands because we had no one in the box.Powelly then reaslisesy Green is shit brings on a defensive. Midfielder when we are 1-0 down then our centre forward does a hamstring, shockin
  • I thought it was a puzzling performance especially in front of a big crowd. We started fairly brightly but quickly lost our way and there were some bad tempered exchanges between team members a couple of times, which seemed more heated than normal.
It just didn't seem to work today, but that said we did create a few chances and probably should have had a penalty.
One to reflect on and then move on from quickly I think.
  • Thought Wilson was our best player today - not sure why people keep criticising him. Its not our defence at fault its the crap in midfield.....
Green and Kerkar let down our defence time and time again.

    was our best player? Seriously?

    Probably, yes.

    Definitely

  • This is going to be a tough league, but we must not under any circumstances think about throwing in the towel. Barnsley deserved their win, once again a single goal defeat, if we can get a reasonable improvement all round we can compete, after all we win at Blackpool everyone delighted, now despair. Some cool heads needed.
  • Woeful performance by us and we were outplayed for most of the game though, from where I was sitting in the west, it did look a pen when Solly went down.
The little guy who played 11 for them should be playing at a higher level and the 9, Davies, is also very decent.
Fuller going off injured was the icing on a shit cake. Feel sorry for everyone involved in the £5 promotion. Those punters won't be back.

  • Even with five in middle we were stretched because defence sat back while theirs pushed into out half. Fuller noticed and waved us forward but we ignored him.
  • Don't know why Stephens thought he had the right to have a go at Hamer.

Powell needs to tell the press that his team were outclassed. We weren't good enough and they deserve to be criticised.

And yes, Wilson was our best player.
  • Just not at the races toady especially Green who played half the 1st on the left wing and was tucked in as a defensive wide right midfielder 2nd half! No wonder he had a shocker and the lunge for the goal when the guy went past him with ease was schoolboy stuff. Fuller tried hard to no avail, Solly and Moro displayed their usual never say die attitude. Kerkar never hid and produces some good stuff in amongst the over doing it bits when a simple pass is on. IMHO Stephens was our best player today with his distribution and was always making himself available to receive the ball. The ref was total crap much like the shower we had to put up with in league one last year. On to Leeds and don't be surprised if we get a point, footballs a funny old game, C'mon you Reds!
  • Poor performance from us and more so from the referee .three incidents stand out : 1. First half on 35 mins why didn't Morro have the ball and the centre forward broken limbs and all landing upside down in row c of the lower north rather than standing around waiting for someone else to make a challenge at the near post?2. Why didn't Hamer either come out to their striker or keep tighter on the post for the goal as the player should never have scored from there?3. Why did the referee not award a free kick at the end on Wilson as no way was that a dive warranting a yellow card? Did not see the penalty incident clearly enough but who actually appealed ? Solly was on a yellow already so probably needed to be a bit careful about questioning the referee' s parentage but surely the captain should have left the ref deafened by shouting rhetorically in his ear all the way back to our goal line: '"what's wrong with you you blind ......................?"
  • Who was Fuller remonstrating with? Kerkar?
No passion (till last 10 mins), no quality, no points.
Perkins was classiest player on the pitch by a mile.
  • No goals.
    No points.
    No atmosphere.
Personally, I think 'outclassed' is overdoing it. I'm with Redskin in his/her evaluation.
  • Awful performance all round, could not think of one player on that field that deserved praise today.

The decision making was a joke, why on earth do we have to attack by taking it on the wing to cross. There was one point where Stephens had loads of space to shoot but Wilson crosses in which got nowhere when he should have tapped to Stephens.

I thought Barnsley were excellent but maybe it's because we made them play like Spain.
  • Disagree with comments about Razak. What did he do to be taken off? Thought the Hollands substition was right but to take off Razak aswell seemed pointless. At least he put himself about and got into some decent positions to get the ball. Jackson was chasing shadows and hardly touched the ball in the opposition's half. We looked like we were competing in the first 45 but in the second we were disjointed and only really got into Barnsley in the last 5 minutes. They are a decent side and kept the ball well whereas we seemed to lack that bit of quality. Also looked like a nailed on penalty from where I was sitting and Solly was fuming. Overall we just weren't that good.
  • Frankel won different gravy best horse ever.
  • Outfought, outthought and outplayed in the midfield. Wilson very much looked a right-midfielder playing right back, was good going forward and thanks to a lack of assistance from Green ended up facing two or three of Barnsley's players at once, which was deliberate on their part I am sure. Hollands leaving at ht was no surprise, Razak on the other hand was a bit odd, he seemed to me to be willing to get forward and mix it up - a sort of Pritchard with muscles as it were.

Fair play to CP for trying to change things early though, bit unlucky that Fuller got injured after all three subs had been made. Perhaps bringing Hulse on instead of one of the midfielders would have been a better idea, but hindsight is the best manager in the business so hard to say for sure.

Ref shite, but so were we so I can't blame him for the loss... though he certainly didn't help. From north lower looked a penalty on Solly but ball was deffo NOT across the line.

    I would say so.
  • Can't see a single think about Razak that makes him any better than we already have . He looks lazy and unfit to me and I can totally see why he was taken off.
  • Poor poor game, Barnsley kept the ball well and looked much better in possession and it was probably the worst performance I've seen from us this season, but without Green slipping it would've been 0-0 (although i thought the ball crossed the line.)

Far too obvious when we get the ball we lump it upfield which is easy to defend against and we are really struggling to keep the ball at this level which is worrying. Kerkar was our best player today imo, subs were the wrong choice would've kept Razak on as I thought he looked like he had potential in him to create a chance. The 4-5-1 formation is set up for a point which is fine away from home and will probably get us a few results but at home I want to see us try and play a bit of football. The switch to 4-4-2 and still lumping it upfield meant I would've gone with Hulse to flick onto Fuller.

2 tough away games now, 4-5-1 will be the formation and hopefully our defence will be good enough to at least get something out them games, but really 5 points in 18 at home now is woeful and needs to improve
  • Midfield gave them to much space and wasnt rigid enough, half the time Green was CAM when hes supposed to be out on the wing. Messy. That stopped us penetrating them as well
  • This Wilson thing is getting a bit ridiculous. No one is saying he isn't effective going forward, he is. But the kid cannot defend. He certainly hasn't embarrassed himself defensively like he did in his first couple of games but he's been far from solid. He can put all the crosses in and charge forward til the cows come home but there will be no 'eating of words' or 'humble pie' until he starts to look assured at the back, starts making blocks and starts making the kind of tackles that Solly does on a weekly basis. The huge contrast between his player marks are and always have been reflective of the contrast between his attacking and defending. And the bottom line should be that he IS playing as a defender. I don't understand why there is still so much confusion about the opinion of this player.

I'm sure we were all at the same game, but I saw it completely differently to most of those above. I thought there was little to choose between the two sides. In the first half we looked unlikely to score, but were not completely over run in the middle like we have been in the first half.

I thought Hollands looked poor. I, now, believe that he is just not good enough for this level. I've been amazed how good, and especially how fast, the teams are at this level. We don't have enough quality, sadly.

I think the change at half time, Hollands for Jackson, was because Danny was having a stinker. I also think the other change (Bradley Wright-Phillips for Razak) was to give us a more attacking approach, which might have been, in part, because there was a real lack of atmosphere compared to previous promotional games.

I also believe that the game, like many this season, could have gone either way. We just don't have as much quality as the other teams in this division and from time to time it will show.

Playing the last fifteen minutes with ten men didn't, exactly, help our cause.

Not a great day, but we are a newly promoted side, we can't expect to win games as often as we did last season.
  • I think it was a mistake going to 442 personally. Handed the midfield to Barnsley, when the first half was relatively even. I think Jack for the woeful Hollands would have been sufficient, and a stern interval chat with Razak.

Quality of crossing was dreadful today but we need more of the midfield to get in the box anyway. Referee didn't help us at all, but we didn't deserve anything anyway.

Was that a stonewall penalty incidentally?
  • Can someone tell me what Villa saw in Dale Stephens?
For the last 15 mins i thought i should pay more attention to him, rather than wathing the movement of the ball.
I am still none the wiser.
  • We're inconsistent - can't string two good results together.

Added to being threatened with arrest by an arsehole steward and it was a helluva day!

Only bright spot was spotting Rick hanging round the West Stand entrance.
  • BWP for Razak wasn't an improvement, as Razak, for his faults, linked well with Fuller, and sporadically looked like creating something, whereas BWP is more of a finisher.

Midfield just doesn't work, we desperately needed someone like 'Boris' Perkins, with his energy, who popped up all over the pitch. How often do you see Stephens and Hollands on the break, busting a gut to get into the box to meet a cross, it's hardly a surprise we're struggling to score at home.

I've said it here before, Wilson could be that man, he's clearly quick and has a good engine (he's also not that good a defender). Play Wilson in midfield, Solly at RB and hmmm Evina (our reserve LB) at LB?
