  • They were better team. Midfield were non existent whilst theirs made penetrative runs. Goal came from an unfortunate Green and even player looked surprised to score it. Shame it undoes the work done at Blackpool. Need Kermorgant back really. In Powell we trust, but in for a long old season
  • Their No. 11 ran the show, must be only 5'2" as he was shorter than Solly. Stonewall pen never given.

  • I think we've seen that dannny Holland's is out of his depth...and that if green and kerkar are not at it we have no plan b. Barnsley wanted it more
  • From where I was sat thought ball had definitely crossed the line, and looked a certain penalty too.... But, that's not excusing the fact we weren't good enough. Frustrating as I thought we came out the blocks on fire, but fizzled out after just five minutes.

I thought Fuller was great throughout but some around me thought he was lazy. Midfield going missing was the biggest problem, played far too deep in the second half inviting them onto us.

Biggest concern coming out of the match is that the first time Powell has taken really positive, early steps with his subs and we get punished with the injury to Fuller. Hope it doesn't make him more cautious again in future.

Two very tough games coming up but knowing us we'll probably draw with Leeds and beat Wolves!
  • Goals, goals, goals. Where are they going to come from?

Kerkar to me seems like he needs to release the ball sooner, gets caught in posession too often, but has many positives to him too I suppose...

Can all those that complain at Powell for "not making changes early enough" shut up now please.

Green was obviously at fault for the goal. I was in the East stand (hand warmers and bovril as much as ever) and people were shouting at him/criticizing him... Do you not think he realised it was his fault???

Wilson impressive when he goes up, a lot of danger from him... Having said that I'm really looking forward to Wiggins coming back...

The worst Charlton game I have seen all season (in terms of the quality of the game) shame that was the game that is supposed to be dragging more fans to come more often...

Also Razak?!?!?! What a load of crap. Hope he improves and this was a one off.
  • Goals, goals, goals. Where are they going to come from?

I think the problem is the midfield. We don't create much.

  • Didn't go so can't comment on the performance. But we have to play 5 across the middle because we are not strong enough in that position. Although solid solly offers nothing going forward on the left he is a waste out there. I said earlier 451 for charlton is not an attacking team it's a stifle the opposition one and I would not have been excited had I been there today to hear this pre kick off.
  • Poor for most of the 90 minutes. Too much hoofing the ball. A near sell out crowd which makes it that much worse. Don't fancy Leeds much on Tuesday.

  • First half the complete lack of desire and commitment shocked me. We looked utterly disinterested.

Second half wasn't much better. Chronic lack of pace and quality in midfield is going to hurt us. We simply don't create enough and look clueless against these workman like sides.

I agree. It wasn't that much better last season, but players like Yann dragged us through a few games. They're not going to be able to do that this season. We have neither quality out wide or proper flair and creativity in the centre.

Still think well stayup but it's going to be a season of grinding out results. We need to find a way to do that at home... fast.
  • Dont know if it's playing at home as the system clearly worked at Blackpool but the formation looked all wrong today, midfield looked far far too deep and wilsons strength is his forward play I wish he would be 20 yards further up when we have the ball in dangerous areas.

Dont like digging out individuals but I didn't rate green in league one and I don't think he should be anywhere near this side in this league

Not one cross all day and cost us a point with his carelessness

Would play Wilson in front of solly when wiggins is back

    Bad day
  • Starting with one up front gave out the wrong message.

Should have played Hulse and Fuller.

  • Very flat performance. Deffo penalty on Solly. Wilson booking was a joke. Perkins was brilliant and ran the show assisted by Dawson who always plays well against us.
  • Didn't go as away for weekend. Midfield would still appear to be our Achilles heel and we've just missed the chance to sort that out. Can't comment on this performance but it was obvious to me that without bringing in two quality centre miss we would be in trouble. Razak has no experience and its asking a lot of him to become our main man. We are in for a hard old season lads.
  • A very worrying performance. We were, I'm afraid, completely outclassed and their movement and passing was excellent ( especially from Perkins, who was the master of the field ). Fair play to Keith Hill and Flitcroft.

I thought that Wilson was our best player, although all our defenders did ok. Our midfield was sluggish and devoid of any creativity, pace and verve.

Best to try and expunge that one from the memory.

    Poor, clueless and disorganised.

Barnsley played good simple football and outclassed Charlton most of the game. There were a few good moments but it was mainly disappointing.

    And a terrible ref.

Walked past the away coaches outside the ground, recognised a few of them from the Jeremy Kyle Show.

They should try the club dentist.
  • We were poor all round.Barnsley held the ball better, passed it better and thoroughly deserved their win.Our defence was solid but as an attacking force we were non existent.Razak-not impressed,Holland -anonymous,Green-not one of his better games,Kerkar-runs into cul-de sacs too often.Barnsley defence did a number on Fuller by not allowing him to turn.It looks like he has done his hamstring just to rub salt into the wound.Have no idea what team he will put out for the Leeds game.Over to you Mr Powell, good luck.
  • I didn't like Hamer's Sunday park reaction to the goal.

  • Don't think it was a matter of desire- more a matter of quality. They were far superior to us with and without the ball. We really need to work out on our retention because we are so predictable when we have possession. Also they were the first team who've really had a go at roughing up Solly-can't believe he managed to escape a red, he should have been booked three times!

Sat in the south today with my bored children (won't be doing that again for a while!) , a change of scenery really brings home how bad the atmosphere is these days. Even after the success last season, it seems to get gradually worse by the year.

I think (hope) two away games will help us-the pressure at home really seems to get to us.

I did. Green was a pleb
  • Wilson was our best player? Seriously?

    Probably, yes.

Yes he was, fully committed and never stopped
  • Better than cort morro or solly? In my opinion, never. He was constantly out of position, ran away from as opposed to facing tackles, out of position for the goal and awful in the air. Going forward I definitely agree he was better than most but as a defender - the position he was playing, he was woeful
  • Thought Wilson was excellent today and put in some good crosses. He kept driving forward right till the end.I know it is sacrilege to say so but thought he was better than Solly today.
  • I thought the first half was ok. Was passing it rather than lumping it. That changed as soon as we went 442.
  • Would like to see Hughes in place of Hollands / razak in a 5 man midfield

I'll second this, Palace win 4-3 on their big day, we lose 1-0. Typical.

Not all bad though cos I only saw the first 20 minutes. We took our one year old and three year old, hoping that the one year old would sleep, she didn't, so I took her out the back of the stand as the crying was so bad. We left just after half time.

In those first 20 mins though, we looked poor.

Also on the bright side my friend took his 6 and 8 year old boys to their first match and they enjoyed it.
