Some people will never see any good in him regardless of what he does yet he is probably the most committed to the Club of the present playing staff, just like Kish was in his time.

I'd rather watch someone have 5 or 6 shots and be unlucky not to score than have one shit deflected effort and do sod all for the rest of the game...."
See what I mean Fanny?
The bias in that statement is unbelievable as well as being nonsensical ie five misses are better than a goal.
And Waggy set up Green for at least two of those misses but did "sod all for the rest of the game".
And all because some people have the Green wearing a halo and Waggy wearing the horns.

I think the both get slagged off unfairly no matter how the play by some.
Not sure I agree with you, Henry. I didn't go to the game so can't comment on their relative merits last night but, reading the thread, it seems to me that Green (rather than Wagstaff) is fast becoming a whipping boy amongst fans.
For those criticising Chrissy Powell's behaviour all I can say is that Orient's manager was considerably worse - he spent most of the night swearing at the officials and his own players and criticising decisions made by the officials. Chrissy thows his water bottle to ground and complained to the 4th official when one of their players got away with a blatant push in the back and then gets sent to the stands. The 4th official and Slade really need to have a long hard luck at themselves.
Chrissy being the true gentleman that he is then spent much of the remainder of the game signing autographs and having his picture taken with kids in the West stand.
As for the game - best move on - I very much doubt that the team on the night had much practice playing in that particular combination and now that we don't have the Paint Pot I doubt they ever will again.
We were good enough to win and win well last night, but a side full of youngsters new signings and players coming out of injury wasn't never going to obliterate orient. thought wilson looked ok, does tend to like a long ball and don't think he was helped by taylor who insisted on winning every header towards wilson ( i know he does it with solly but lawrie don't need him) cort was as expected from a cb but had two glaring misses from inside the 6yard box he should of had two at least. evina did nothing of note and i don't think that's a terrible thing for a left back, hollands looked abit rusty but assured none the less, cook looked good and likes to go at people, think him and wiggins would be a good combo if he dropped deep abit more, kekar looked good on the ball smart with it and not afraid to shoot, may need to toughen up for the championship though, waggy i thought did well, didn't have much but did not stop running and always wants the ball, green was nowhere near as bad as made out, yes his tendency to shoot from a corner is irratating but it's more irratating none of our players gamble on it, his shooting was visibly off tonight, but he could of had two assists minimum if cort could nod home, smith looked a prospect but needs games to get sharp touch was abit off, think the players relied on him to much like we had a tendency to do with yann last year but think smith will get better, pritch bwp and jacko all came on and did little but did little well ( bar jacko's pen)
Final note the ref was god awful buckled under pressure and was very inconsistent with his 'fouls'
I don't think it's half as bad as most say on here and if we had 1 or two more of the 1st 11 we'd of been clear of orient at half time and a routine win.
Green clearly has a confidence issue - it was very noticeable how every time he tried to do something right he was praised by Dyer/Powell. They are clearly working on his defensive game as well and he did make one tackle that was out of his previous character.
I was really rather hoping we were going to put down a marker with this game - make a statement of intent going into the new season. As such I found the defeat a little deflating to say the least. Smith, Kerkar and Cook impressed me - Wilson didn't (although to be fair it was his debut and he'll do for back-up) Pritchard, BWP and Jacko made a difference and I think we would have won it had they been brought on sooner - but I can see why Powell might want to get 90 mins out of the second string. Cort looks like the better partner for Morro - Taylor and Evina will do for back-up. Waggy did nothing to enhance his reputation (I'd like to say his goal was well taken but I got the impression it was heading for the corner flag from my angle). Thought we played the better football in patches but by the end they seemed to want it more (their fans were certainly roused). Disappointing and unnecessary petulance from Powell - poor show to get sent off for a minor incident in an unimportant game - can't afford to have him sitting in the stands for the big games coming up

Yeah but Green deserves it : - )
I agree, I thought Green did some good stuff last night as well as being wasteful in front of goal. I was surprised at how negative some have been about him.
I do think the expections of Green have placed a huge burden on him. His performance was on a man trying too hard to score a spectacular goal rather than look for a simple pass. People expect more from him than perhaps he can deliver and I think he feels that pressure himself with Pritchard taking his place now and Waggy at the end of last season.

oh god not that poxy phrase again. we went one whole season without it. good while it lasted.

I thought green, cook and kerkar were the stand out points for me on the night, especially the 1st half, cook and kerkar impressed me alot, both looked to have good technical ability. Green impressed me with his effort, got stuck in with tackles, hit the post a couple of times and got in some great positions to score.
Disappointed we lost as i do when ever charlton lose, but bring on Saturday which is the big one.
My seat and seats nearby was caked in pigeon guano. Can't complain as the seats were cleaned by volunteers, but I had to move seats on health grounds! I hadn't realised how bad it must get over the summer.
Me too. I hereby kindly request the club to sort it out.
Pritchard and BWP made a big difference when they came on. Couldn't really understand why they couldn't have come on with 10 to go. A max of 40 mins wouldn't have hurt them.
Don't get the Green terrible stuff, had more shots and looked more dangerous than Wagstaff, and I don't know how anyone can try and claim he looked disinterested and wasn't trying, the poor fella was trying too hard to get a goal.
And why shouldn't he try and score from a corner? The keeper couldn't handle it, it created opportunities for a goalmouth scramble and one nearly went in save for a lucky rebound off the post!
I'd rather watch someone have 5 or 6 shots and be unlucky not to score than have one shit deflected effort and do sod all for the rest of the game....
This.
Think Green has become a fall-guy for some unaccountable reason. When you look at overall involvement and contribution across ten games, I'd be staggered if many of you thought Wagstaff offered more.
Wagstaff scored (somehow) off the back of a great pass from Cook (I think), and proceeded to do eff all for the other 119 minutes.
I still don't see why Green gets so much stick. Okay he'll lose the ball frequently during bad games and overhits maybe a pass or two too many - but at least he never hides and looks to earn his money by taking some responsibility. There are going to be several tough away games this year where things get a bit tasty - let's see who just goes through the motions, and let's see who tries to take the game by the scruff of the neck.
For the record, I have no real qualms with Wagstaff, but Green is a better footballer than him and for me it's as simple as that. Many on here seem to get frustrated with Green - but that's because he's willing to try things. Waggy would rather pass the ball back 10 yards to Solly rather than "risk" putting in a cross in case it ends up in row Z. You watch how often Wagstaff tries to take on the full-back. Almost never. And for me that's far worse than having a go and coming up short.
Much is made of the saying "we've got our Charlton back". It would appear that is very much the case. When have we ever spanked a team from a lower division in an early cup game at The Valley ? It's why I didn't go. The club don't bother with these games so neither will I. It's just an evening of feeling depressed at having your small hope that tonight will be the night is once again crushed. It never has been "the night" in all the years I've been tricked into attending. was hoping this season might with a few, not many quality signings be another step in our rehabilitation. Can't see that happening now so I'll cheer on the players and hope for the best.
I will admit i prefer Wagstaff to Green(i was very excited when he signed last year) but i never can understand the people who have an issue with Wagstaff moaning, one of my all time favourite players was a hard working winger who loved a good moan, im assuming those same people all had an issue with John Robinson at the time or just a bad memory.
My Charlton supporting mates still lovingly enjoy talking about his moaning and part of the reason we liked him so much at the time, just passion and character, you certainly can't ever claim him or waggy dont care.

Cannot compare the two - Waggy stands around moaning in no mans land whereas Robbo gives his all including running back even if it was to argue in the ref's face! One has passion and the other ???
Was hilarious seeing Orient fans treat it like it was a huge game.
haha we have just been promoted and in our first cup game we give it this
Don't get what you're trying to say? Majority of the fans couldn't give a monkey's about last night as could be seen by the attendance and the atmosphere in the ground (which was exactly the same as a pre-season friendly). Orient fans cared, majority of ours didn't. How is that giving it??
Let's see how the first choice team plays on Saturday before we go wrist slashing.
From reading the reports it seems the acquisitions played well and we have a good squad of players.
Regarding Wagstaff - he score goals and generally works hard, in a couple of other areas he's limited but we look a better side when he plays and those goals from midfield are generally scored from distance to boot.

Need we say more on the subject of last night?
Missed the first 10 minutes as was still in the queue outside. Missed the last 10 minutes of the first half as I went to get a beer.
F*cked off at half time.
Don't understand the moaning, but please do carry on.
