Charlton - Orient - Post match views

Look forward to hearing from those there.

Personally, you play a reserve team then you can't complain when you get knocked out.

Seems strange our season hasn't started yet we don't have a cup match now for five months !

Wilson did not impress me at all. He looks a real weak point. Not aware of anything around him and scared to go past the halfway line. I hope he improves.

Pritch, Cook and Smith all very impressive.

    Unlucky, and not clinical enough.
  • Shows no strength in depth. Unbelievable ref, even though no crowd seemed to want to show he was no homer. Feel like my time has been wasted this evening with a poor side put out by Powell.
  • Give them time, start of last year Wiggins looked a bit shacky, by the end of the season one of our best players

Great tactics by Powell to concentrate on the league ;)
  • Felt more like a pre season friendly lacked quality in key areas - impressed by Cook and Smith. Green very frustrating. Ref was annoying - seemed to lose control when the fouls started flying in from Orient and then sent Sir Chris to the stands for throwing a bottle to the ground in frustration.
Bit worried about midfield this year if Stephens and Holland's don't hit the ground running like.last season
  • Thought it was a poor game with a pre-season friendly feel about it. Thought nobody was really poor but very few did anything to stand out. Cook looks like he could be very useful and Kerkar could be very handy off the bench. I also think Smith could be very good although he's still very raw. Otherwise pretty average. Was hilarious seeing Orient fans treat it like it was a huge game.
  • To report on the new signings:Personally I thought that kerkar was good first half but faded. He was very weak in the air but made some good passes.
Cook was very impressive. A great pass to set up waggy and some very effective runs. I think he will play a big part this year.
Regarding Wilson, it was easy to see that he played at stevenage last year. When in trouble he just hoofed the ball upfield. Otherwise he was good defensively.
Overall some positives to take but a lot to work on for most in order to challenge the starting XI.
  • Really liked Cook. Very clever player. Only other positive really was Hamer who looked solid. Green and Waggy will need to improve and Wilson had a shocker!! I left after 90 minutes so missed xtra time and pens!!
  • No offence but I have filed this one at www.whogivesatoss.com

    I can heartily recommend it.

Give Wilson time to settle in , remember Wiggins had a tough time when he first came here.

(Ooops sorry MattD just seen your post!)

  • Sebs on Facebook claiming the ref is a 'dirty vile racist' lol

    This!
  • Poor, scrappy match with more than one ott challenge from behind, but ref didnt stamp it out early. Green wasteful but looks fitter than last year, cook looked decent but lacks fitness, wilson was nervy but wasnt francis like, kerkar needs to learn that you can't dribble it past everyone on the edge of your own box, taylor and hamer had a couple of mishaps, smith good on the ball, rest were average. Surprised Hollands lasted 120 minutes.

Glad we can now look forward to the league

Kerkar had a good 45mins as did Cook. Cook strong and direct. Kerkar has a deptive turn of pace. Unfortunately both vanished in the second half. Echo other comments about Wilson, looked very poor. God help us if Wiggins gets injured and Evina gets an extended run in the team.

Smith ran himself into the ground and should have come off earlier.

As for the rest, some okish - Hollands and Cort.

Special mention for Green who was utterly inept from start to finish.

Honestly couldnt give a monkeys about the result and would rather have gone out in normal time as Cort looked to be cramping up near the end as did Hollands.

Massively concerned re: strength in depth.
  • I thought Cook was impressive. I like Smith and think he has potential, but I don't think he's ready. I think he could do with a season in League One. Don't think anyone else really stood out, though Cedric needs to work on his crossing and Green needs to commit to 50-50 balls a bit more.

Incidentally, when the ref sent CP to the stands, the first thing he said to him (I'm pretty confident I read his lips correctly) was "It's my fault." Presumably, the 4th official told him that he'd missed the push by the Orient player prior to the free kick he gave to the O's.
  • Cook was good and Taylor was solid.
  • Surprised at those saying it was a poor game. I thought for a cup-tie it wasn't too bad, I have seen a lot worse (1-0 Yeovil for eg. )

Cook was brilliant in my opinion, really positive player looks a great buy.

Wilson was decent first half, but not brilliant second.-Should be okay back up for Solly.

Waggy was okay, decent effort but not convinced he is a striker/off the front-man player.

Cort and Taylor for me don't work as a partnership, neither of them are really comfortable on the ball and a couple of times, they lost possession cheaply.

Kerkar had some promise about him, few nice touches. I can see him improving as the season develops.

Smith played well considering it was his first competitive start for us-Tired towards end.

Hamer was brilliant-apart from nearly assisting Mooney for a goal.

    The rest-Average.
  • Decent performance, should have been winning by 3-1 at half time. Game could have been in the bag. Cook, Kerkar, Smith, all looked promising.

I defy anyway who tells me Danny Green played well. He's just abysmal. Why does he take all the free kicks and corners when they are useless? That great chance to do something clever with about 15 mins to go and he just blasts it into the stand, as ever. Should have been someone on the overlap, but they probably knew there was no point as he wouldn't pass it anyway.
  • Crap game crap performence. If you have ever seen charlton play in the league in the last 15 years it was no different to that and to make matters worse I'm sure I'm sitting oppisite john wright on the train home. The only was is essex ffs.
  • I am constantly amazed by peoples assessment of green.
  • I'm in the Ormiston camp - move on.

  • Poor team selection, poor management, poor substitutions. Hollands had to work doubly hard because some around him were wandering all over the place. Seen a few people marking Danny Green higher than Hollands and made me realise how we all watch a different game. Wagstaff is at least one league higher than he should be. I think Smith will come good and Solly and Wiggins can sleep easy tonight.
  • nobody on here will see us win a major trophy...move on lets get a win at brum
  • Green was abysmal how many shots does he want before he gets one on target
  • I am constantly amazed by peoples assessment of green.

Green frustrates me with him trying to whip the ball in fron the corner EVERY SINGLE FOOKING TIME! One dimensional player.
  • Dissapointing result, BWP looked sharp when he came on. Who hid our subs board. Move on, shame we are out but shit happens, what matters now is saturday
  • Not too bothered about this result and going out of cup games early is a fact of life for Charlton fans. One worry is Wilson. Seemed a bit nervy and struggled to pass to own team mates in second half. No one else has mentioned it but thought the their penalty was a nice little dive by Cox. Wasn't worried though as Mooney as predictable as ever missed the penalty and also laid on the pass from their corner to set up our goal.
  • Bet SCP wishes he'd stayed in bed today....know how he feels !

As others have rightly stated, move on. We don't "do" cup games and we definitely don't "do" penalty shoot outs ( unless they're at Wembley) Can we opt out of the FA Cup ...?

  • Wasn't there but worrying to hear last years regulars not at the races. I'd be interested to hear if CP tried to vary formation or tactics before he resorted to subs. We know we can play attrition football but need more options.
  • Management will learn from tonight's match.

  • Hamer looked sharp. impressed by Jordan Cook. Kerkar promising first half, average second. Green was poor but did try. after we scored we looked too casual. Poorly conceded equaliser on stroke of half time.
Wilson was ok, nothing special, poor penalty. Bwp looked sharp when he eventfully appeared, as did Pritch. If the game was more important I am sure the subs board would have appeared earlier!
Not gonna worry over it, typical charlton league cup performance against a lower league team......
