  • I like Danny Green but even I must admit he was very very poor tonight.

Green was abysmal how many shots does he want before he gets one on target

Can't say I agree, perhaps he should hit the target more often but "abysmal" I actually thought he played ok. Funny how people see things differently! I didn't think Smith had a good game, he ran hard but, first touch lacking, no shots of note and didn't win a header all night. I know I am gonna get shot down for this, and I know he is young and he didn't really have any support out there tonight. But I don't think he had a good game at all.
  • Would be nice if one year the fringe players got the chance to play more than the traditional one cup game in each half of the season. The competitive action might make them... more competitive. Not even got the chance of a few run outs in the FA cup rounds one and two any more.

Oh and as a fan it would be nice if we made it to just one semi final before I die. Is that too much to ask? Even the Nigels can manage that. In over 40 years I think we have managed just 3 or 4 FA QFs and zero in the League Cup. I seriously doubt that any of the top 40 teams in the country have a worse record.

I went to the game Di Canio saved in the very last minute vs Luton and decided no more of that. No wonder we get such low crowds in these competitions - they are devoid of all hope.....
  • Frustrating result but would of felt weirder if we had won based on are previous cup game's, im not especially worried still, completly different team and attitude come saturday, where i think we will surprise some people.
  • Cook, Smith and Kerkar looked pretty good but all tired. Cook was the pick though. Wilson didn't show too much but it's one game so no rash judgements here.

Evina came forward quite a bit and was fine at the back.

Some nice play for Cook to setup the goal.

Green was fine. Constantly involved and unlucky not to score tonight. I agree he shouldn't try to score from every corner but he did put the keeper under a lot of pressure.

Waggy got the goal but it really doesn't work for him playing up front. Didn't do a lot else

BWP looked razor sharp when he came on. Definite step up in class albeit with a lot of tired players from both sides by this time.

Nothing to worry about. Will be a different side on Saturday and we'll be fine. Cort did seem to pick up an injury right at the end so be interesting to see who Morro partners in the centre of defence.

  • Wasn't too bad the positives for me were Kerkar, Cook, Smith, Pritch (albeit a cameo) and Waggy
Negatives were Wilson and Evina, both just didn't look like they had a clue
Others were Ok apart from Danny Green, that was the worst game I've ever seen him play he was so poor looked disinterested and after that I wouldn't care if he was to leave.
The rest were Ok, don't think we deserved to lose but hey ho. Highlight of my night was Seb screaming racist at the referee
  • I thought smith was ineffective. Tried hard, but .. Still, need to give him more time as he is inexperienced.
  • Positives:
    Evina
    Kerkar

    Negative:
    SCP getting sent off
    Blue and white sponsorship boards
Our team not being very good at football
  • Highlight for me the 900+ orient fans that showed up for a non new ground, in a wanky cup match........ proper away numbers for a small club

Hamer looked very assured bar one mix up ...
Of the newbies I was more impressed with cook than wilson or kerkar and I thought smith wasn't too bright
None of the above will improve our team from last year

Green hit the post with one of his corners and outfoxed the keeper with a near post free kick that also hit the post and he is the only one who started the game for us tonight with an adults shot

Strength of the squad is pitiful and if we have some injuries I'll be very concerned .... Hollands is slow motion as well , I'm worried for us

    0%Top 6 .....15% for 7th-12th.... 70% for 13th-21st and 15% relegation

  • What I've taken from this is that no-one can agree on what the positives or the negatives of tonight's display was. Still looking forward to getting the Championship season underway
  • Poor game and tbh I didn't see too many positives out there as it was such a poor game but it was to be expected it's the first round of a cup nobody takes seriously.

Smith started well but faded, Cook looked good in places. Wilson had a torrid time and looked like he was nervous. Could defintley strengthen a few areas if funds are there, but we knew that anyway.

  • Special mention for Green who was utterly inept from start to finish.

    .

Thats it - last time I post on here !!!!!!!!!!!

(for those of you not at the match , Green hit the post with a great shot, had a CORNER cleared off the line (may have hit the post, but certainly was going in) and was instrumental in most things we did - esp second half)

If I remember correctly, Clem Snide (great name - suits you !!) dissed Bover ater the Welling game.

As I said - I've had it on here - I haven't read any posts after Clems insightful thoughts on our team, so there may be some that acyually tell you more about how we dominated for large parts of the game & on another night would have scored 4 or 5.

  • Thought Kerkar was good. Smith will hopefully get some first team games this season. Green had a poor game. Beaker kept us in the game. Just one big moan - I wish Waggy would stop blaming everybody else when a move or a pass or a run doesn't come off for him when it is down to him!
  • Who did we lose to in this cup last season? I honestly can't remember. And what was our team? I think we did ok in the league though.

My seat and seats nearby was caked in pigeon guano. Can't complain as the seats were cleaned by volunteers, but I had to move seats on health grounds! I hadn't realised how bad it must get over the summer.
  • Agree with Oohaah on pretty much everything apart from 0% top 6. You never know, momentum, first team playing, lucky with injuries etc. it can never be 0%??

No without a doubt Green was poor, terrible in fact. I'm sorry but you say 'had it cleared off the line from a corner' but tbh he shouldnt be trying to score from a corner, his deliveries here either cross shots or they went off the pitch, simply not g
  • *not good enough
  • There was a superb bit of interplay between cook, waggy and green in the second half, shame green couldn't finish it.

  • The main positive was the performance of Cook. Direct, skilful and energetic. Also seemed decent with either foot. Kerman had a great first half hour but faded. Smith is raw but worked his socks off. Has a footballing brain and would like to see him have a loan spell in league 1. Wilson seemed fine to me. Poor crossing however.
Orient's approach was direct. They put Lisbie on Evina, hit the long ball and fed off the scraps.
Powell's frustration was building as the ref was very lenient early on. I had a clear view of the Orient number 8s challenge on Cook and it was a raised arm, no doubt. The ref bottled it. He then failed to give a foul and gave a soft one to them. Powell threw his pen on the floor and kicked a bottle. Now, if that is a deserved sending off then fine. But it seems a sad state of affairs when players get away with many things and a manager is sent off for kicking a bottle.
Also I don't quite get the criticism Green is getting. Hit the post twice, had a couple of decent efforts and worked hard. He is obviously going to be this season 's whipping boy on here.
So, with Solly, Wiggins, Morrison,Stephens, Kermorgant, Jackson and BWP to return to the starting line up for Saturday things look ok to me. Remember we beat Reading at this stage last year and look what happened to them...
  • Don't get the Green terrible stuff, had more shots and looked more dangerous than Wagstaff, and I don't know how anyone can try and claim he looked disinterested and wasn't trying, the poor fella was trying too hard to get a goal.

And why shouldn't he try and score from a corner? The keeper couldn't handle it, it created opportunities for a goalmouth scramble and one nearly went in save for a lucky rebound off the post!

I'd rather watch someone have 5 or 6 shots and be unlucky not to score than have one shit deflected effort and do sod all for the rest of the game....
  • Seems to me we put out almost a complete reserve team including Hollands (not yet fully fit) plus a few who have had very little pre season action. Yet we almost beat a reasonable league one side. I think that shows that we do have strength in depth once all are fully match fit. Not bothered by the result and pleased that Powelly didn't risk the likes of Kermo.

Agreed Sam. Are some of you really annoyed that a player TRIED to score? The keeper was flappy, I'd liked to have seen more shots go in, from anyone!
  • Im pretty much going to echo what's been said already; this was a non game and it's daft to read much in to it. Now on for specific players:

Kerkar - I thought he looked very promising in the first half. Seemed to get in decent positions and have the pace to get balls in the box. I recall him having one or two pops at goal to, one which looked dangerous before deflection! I like the looks of this one.

Smith and Cook - at half time, I quite harshly, said I forgot these two were playing - nothing noteworthy had occurred. Second half I had a better view of the attacking play and i was wrong, they both put a real shift in. Whether the end product of smith is good enough? I think he's got the right attitude at the end of the day, which can get him far with the right experience.

Wilson - What can this guy actually do? I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as its one game, but his passes seemed to go nowhere and he just didn't seem to do much other than give possession away! I remember him chasing a ball down to stop it going out, only to boot it towards the west stand from about a foot on the pitch!? 400k for a Solly back up? No.

Green was frustrating at times but overall he had a couple of chances and did create some play. Did find myself missing Yann and Johnny when it came to set pieces though!

Evina looked sharper than his last outing at the valley - was it Colchester? I was pretty impressed, I remembered lots of mistakes before but he seems to be progressing.

I think the game picked up majorly when Pritch came on, and more so when JJ and BWP arrived. They seemed to bring some class and skill in, perhaps multiplied due to the tired legs around them? I have good feelings about BWP though, he seemed lively and more confident - hopefully a return to the Bradley of old.

Leyton Orient did bring some awesome support - even if I did find it amusing that their stand was the busiest..! They played a very physical game with which I was glad we kept most first teamers away from - they weren't a clean side by any standards. The kind of game big Yann would be at home in!

The penalties? I never thought I'd see JJ miss one, but it happens! I think Wilson was unlucky and struck it well, despite that it hasn't made me warm to him any quicker (I still have hopes of redemption!). The other 3 seemed top notch though.
  • I find it difficult and possibly not worthwhile trying to assess this one. A mainly second string side including new players still trying to fit in was always unlikely to hit the heights. Fortunately Leyton Orient started fearfully and we started brightly and dominated the first half. Wagstaff's deflected goal was small reward for the work put in by the players and the half time score was not a fair reflection of the game. In the second half, however, it gradually dawned on the opposition that the home side were playing like a bunch of strangers and by full time any threat that we had posed upfront had disappeared and the midfield were again at sixes and sevens and being outfought and outplayed. We hit the woodwork twice and had a shot saved on the line but Leyton Orient had their moments too and were similarly unlucky not to be ahead in the 90 minutes (quite apart from the penalty miss). The good news is that we are unlikely to field the same side in a game that matters and we are all so used to losing to lower league opposition in this competition that it's not going to ruin anyone's week.

  • I think I read it on here but annoying nonetheless (is that a word?) you can't buy a matchday programme in the club shop , I had arrived late and went in there after the match(it was so empty) and the club shop will not be stocking them this year which I find odd.
Also I asked about kits for 4/5 year olds and Nike don't do kits that small or they're not doing them for us anyway so we have a fake/moody copy of a kit by Avec for the under 6's ...... Seems a bit naff really , reminds me of my first kit which was a bit of a sew on job back in the late 70s
  • In so far as we treat these meaningless fixtures as exactly what they are: meaningless pre season experimentation fixtures ,could we also not treat them as testimonials for former players who have fallen on hard times? We might get a better turnout then and perhaps also therefore a bigger crowd inspiring a home win .

There was one programme seller in the East Stand, but she was on her mobile phone so I couldn't buy one. Are these people volunteers or paid? If they are paid, and I know it won't be a lot, but they should take it seriously.
