    Agree, CE .

A "lucky" raffle winner at last season's POTY is/was due to present the actual Cup to Chris Solly at the first Saturday home match of the season . Someone joked " That's if he's still with us !" to which SCP replied " He will be" ...

IMHO SCP had NO intention of letting his player move anywhere & I'm as sure as I can be that this is the last thing he would have agreed to IF he was offered any options.

Whoever made that joke in front of Chris Powell sounds like bit of an idiot.
    ..it was Slater...

  • Whilst I hope Solly stays I doubt that it will be Chris Powell's decision, if the finances are that dire he will be told he has to be sold much like other managers have in the past.

agree. And CP will know/realise that sometimes you have to do this to balance the books. That's life unfortunately.

Obviously can't say. If Solly is sold it will be Powells decision. I hope this puts the conspiracy theories to bed on this one.

So, to put up Solly's value he's openly telling people that (a) he's not happy with his height and (b) that (according to an earlier post of yours) he doubt's he can cut it in The Championship....why on earth would he be making comments like that..........how very odd!
Still......... if you say so, it must be true.

Sorry, but you are asking people to believe your source but to ignore other people's sources.

Isn't your theory just as likely to be a "conspiracy" as there's?

We do know that Powell has constantly praised Solly in public (see Covered End above), in the media and has stated that Solly would not be leaving in emphatic terms.
  • I think if he did have any concerns about his height they were put to bed after dropping him against Stevenage and seeing what affect it had.
  • it's not even as if he is short ffs. Load of old bull.

Sorry but if you want to be taken seriously you'll have to do better than that. For a start I do not see 'conspiracy' theories. I see a theory being aired that we do not have enough money to bring in new players unless we sell Chris Solly. That seems to me to be a not unreasonable theory, one faced by countless clubs, and by Charlton in the past, as pointed out ad infinitum above.

If that is the situation, then how can it be Chris Powell's decision, unless you want to suggest that SCP has managed to find a business consortium to buy out the current lot?

  • Wiggins and Solly are the same height.
  • Don't we already have an inane rumours thread ?

I don't think there is much of a height difference between Powell & Solly & Powell made the England team. On that basis I find it hard to believe he would think Solly's height was a problem in The Championship.

If Solly goes, it might be Powell's decision in as much he's told he needs to sell someone to raise £1M + & he'd rathers sell Solly than say Kermy etc. However, given a choice of sell one of our top players or keep them I think he'd keep them. Wouldn't you ?

  • What worries me is that we're gonna have to make up a new song :0(
  • If Baldock joins Bristol City does this mean we keep Solly forever and ever? Clutching at straws here

Wouldn't be the first time a players been sold after a Managers said that stuff would it?

SoundAsa€, Powell is not openly saying that. I have made my opinion on what I have heard and just thought I would pass it on.
  • There are several alternative scenarios regarding Solly

    1) Solly isn't going anywhere, and the speculation is rubbish
    2) SCP has been told we need to raise £1m to pay the wages/taxman/milkman i.e. sell Solly or someone asap
    3) SCP is desperate to strengthen elsewhere, and the only way he can raise the funds is by selling someone, e.g. Solly
    4) Solly has told SCP he would like to go (unlikely)
    5) SCP wants to create space for Jordan Cousins in the 1st team squad, as he sees him as a key player for us, and is worried Cousins might leave if he isn't nearer the 1st team squad

  • 3) SCP is desperate to strengthen elsewhere, and the only way he can raise the funds is by selling someone, e.g. Solly

this plus using some money to pay some bills, like the leccy
  • 6 pages and this is the most random rumour. Plucked from mid-air

Well if he's not openly saying that Red, then how do you know he's saying it at all...he must have said it to someone and that someone is now putting it about (especially that he doesn't think Solly can cut it in The Championship)......not sure CP would be too enamoured with that would he?
Nah....I think your 'source' has got his wires crossed.

I heard that Powell isn't sure whether Solly will cut it in the Championship. Three Prem clubs made enquiries at the end of the season for him as we were looking to sign Wilson. To me this sounds like a footballing decision if it happens of course. It will be Powells decision.

Find that hard to believe, he's one we can be confident will have no problems stepping up a division.
This isn't a joke but apparently Powell has issues with his height.

    He can talk...
  • Redhenry, Red Robin. and others

If you do not agree with people's assertions, the polite way to do that is to give reasonable arguments as to why they might be wrong. The impolite way is to insult people ( by branding them conspiracy theorists or accusing them of plucking from thin air) or pretending that you've got an inside source when you haven't.

You will not stop something bad happening to CAFC by slagging off people who try to give warnings that such bad things may be about to happen.

I wouldn't say I was being aggressive or rude actually. If anything, you're the one edging nearer towards that territory with this last post.

Sorry everyone, carry on panicking about an unsubstantiated rumour.

If you look at AFKA's record of breaking news on CL in the past, I'd say this was certainly not plucked from mid-air.
  • 6 pages and this is the most random rumour. Plucked from mid-air

If you look back to the beginning of page 1 you will see that this "rumour" was started by AFKA the very person who try's to keep a lot of this sort of thing in check.

When challenged very early on page 1 as to if he had any evidence to back up his opening statement he answered "yes"

So I would take this thread as more than a random bit of gossip

exactly what I said about three pages ago. Because it is AFKA it has credence.

And where is the evidence then?
  • TRR, this is a snippet of what I said on page 4:

For the record, for those that read something, then blow it up and turn it into something else, I never said he had gone, and I never said he is has.definately going. I have heard it is a distinct possibility(won't say where from, so make your own judgement)

    ----

As said above, you're perfectly entitled to your view if you think I would just pluck something out of thin air. I don't really see what you gain by adding it, but that's your view.

And to state (again), I havent said he has gone, or is definitely going. If he doesn't go then I will probably be the happiest man on here, as I made clear in the first post how much I love seeing him play.for us.
  • TRR, this is a snippet of what I said on page 4:

If he doesn't go then I will probably be the happiest man on here, as he's the only bloke smaller than me in The Valley.

  • thing is even though the source may be credible it doesn't mean they're not just passing on speculation.

not saying that's the case here - but it makes me vary.
  • I'm reading this whilst sheltering from the blistering sunshine on a dusty campsite in the mountains near Carcassonne and it's all rather good. This would be the one sale that would really hack me off, I'm not sure why. Perhaps it's just the run of Charlton glumness that has got to me, but I really did want to see Chris Solly play for us again. It does all rather add up to bye bye Chris. Merde!
  • has anyone asked him on twitter?

Don't think I branded anyone or slagged them off. :-((
