Cant believe the Parky comments. He might not have set the world alight but he was an honest man who tried his best. For me the worst Manager was Dowie, I never understood the appointment and then to sack him when we did was another bemusing decision. Might he had kept us up? I just felt sorry for Reed-that night against Wycombe.....shocking
For that reason he sits far lower in my estimation than Parkinson, even though Parkinson could do no better with the 08/09 squad. I just can't bring myself to hate Parky in the same way as I hate Pardew, even though we hit a lower low under Parky.
Dowie for me. I've only been around long enough to have known as far back as Curbishley, so I grew up with my Charlton with Curbs at the helm, and in just a couple of months Dowie had destroyed what I'd seen built up over those years. Heartbreaking. Pardew runs a close second though, tried to spend his way out of a bad situation, did it badly and left us even worse off somehow. Parky bought well with no resources when we were in L1 and kept our heads above water for the Powell era so he's a long way off those two for me
That is a very good post and I agree to a point, I've said this so many times that I'm becoming bored of it myself, whilst Dowie was a poor choice by the board, he was on to a loser from the start, unable to appoint his own backroom staff and inheriting a team that was so obviously on the decline, Curbs knew it, in my opinion, the mistake the board made was not letting Curbs go when West Ham first came calling, about 2 years before he actually left, at that time we were in a position of strength and could have attracted a decent manager, when Curbs left the job became a poisoned chalice with very few decent managers available at the time. I honestly feel that Parkinson done well to get us where he did and I always thought he was very honest and unassuming. My choice would probably be Pardew, incredibly poor signings, poor tactics, poor team selection and an over inflated ego, Ken Craggs was very poor but that was a different era and a completely different set of circumstances.

In my opinion he was a crap manager of the team i love and was one of the worst i have
Same with debates like Waggy v Green.
Look back at where those players are now. Not many have improved since under different managers.
Decent League 1 manager with a decent League 1 squad. Both had flaws but had enough about them to challenge for promotion.
