Cannot believe people are slating Les Reed. We wouldn't have got into the Premiership in the first place if he hadn't been with us and we'd have probably stayed up if he hadn't left us in 98.
He was put in an impossible position when Dowie got the order of the boot.
As for Pardew, well the majority of us welcomed him as the saviour but he certainly did the most damage IMO.
Ken Craggs, Les Reed and despite the hatred for Pardew I do think we was on a downward spiral which no one could of stopped so I'll take him out of my bottom three and add the lemon who is Dowie!
Not laughable its about opinions and Parky IMO was shite
Bottom line, who did more damage to the club?
Has to be Pardew, huge budget to succeed and wasted millions on Varney, McCleod, Gray and the rest, by the time Parkinson came in we were potless and the die was cast.
As others have said, at least with Dowie we got some of the cash back from his spending spree.
I feel that the club did Les Reed a disservice by appointing him manager. They should have kept him in temporary charge for longer. That way when it wasn't working out he could have reverted back to what he does best when the new man came in. That decision to appoint him "permanently" resulted in the club having to sack him and lose his undoubted talents.
His reign did give me one funny moment though - we were losing badly and a shout came from behind me "Where's the width? Page 32 of your book"!
Les Reed for me. Pardew was not great, but Reed was shocking and in fairness to him he should have stayed Caretaker rather than being given the job permanently. The board at the time messed up on that one.
Dowie's record says he was just as bad but I am still of the opinion performances were turning around just before he got the boot.

The statistics say you're right and there's no arguing with that. But as I and others have said earlier....what a pity it happened to such a thoroughly decent fella as Les Reed.

Laughable that anyone can even suggest Parkinson was worse than those 3.

Don't start me on Mullery.

As I said recently had we had a BWP in League 1 Parky would have taken us up.
Last season we saw the difference in having a fresh start and being able to sign the right players.
Parky had to make do with Pardew's Championship signings, McLeod, Dickson etc who weren't even League 1 standard.
Pretty obvious Dowie and Pardew were worse with the signings they made and the damage that caused. Reed just wasn't a manager.
