  • There's 11 pages showing on my phone that I haven't read. Are they all worth reading?
Short answer is "no - wait for one of the frequent summaries"! And I see someone has kindly reposted one for you. :-)
  • well a player like hayes would be worth 200k to buy he came on a 'free' so the 200k split over 2 years stuck into the salary is 2k per week extra so it does add up to me
  • so now we are guessing player wages....
  • Well it says he's on 5k per week on FM if that's anything to go by.
  • well the inflated wages for average footballers may be the reason everyone signed for us and may be the reason the financial output the new owners had expected to have forked out may be a lot higher than initially anticipated hence the current confusion

    Seems like it VG! :-)

That is what I am thinking too.....
  • I doubt it, Chairmen and Managers always agree a transfer AND wage budget for the season, and the club in general. If they told Powell he could have a squad of 20 players, and a wage bill of x million, then it's up to him to juggle wages within these limits.
  • I was chatting to someone well connected in one of the lounges last season and he said the top earners were on around £2000-2500 a week

I dare say that's all gone up now because of promotion though
  • If Solly dosn't go thats going to be one to work out imo

  • Something tells me Yann could be off prehaps
  • I'd hate to go out to dinner with someone who would tell me how much money a week he earnt.

Very few people would actually see the 'wage' sheets at the club. Unless players are telling people how much they earn, I doubt that a lot of the figures you lot have heard are more than guess work.

I really hope not , class player.

No Swis, what I have stated is what Hayes was paid last season!

Agree completely, unless Hayes is a complete arsehole - and he doesn't seem that type - I just can't imagine him telling anyone outside his closest family how much wedge he is on.

Believe what you like, my mate is a close friend of Hayes' best mate and they have all been out together several times over the summer. Wouldn't you tell your best mate what you are earning?

I posted in response to Disco's post - ''Players wages are the main reason why so many clubs are in debt'' to which I agreed and gave an example of what players are earning even in League 1. Wish I hadn't bothered now with so many disbelievers on this board!

    Hayes former best mate?
  • Been told the same as Essex_Al from the same person. Our mate has been friends with Hayes well before he came to us.
If I had a close mate who was a footballer I would ask him what his earning too just natural to be curious.
Al not sure if I have met you before but R has spoke of ya.

Agreed, cannot stand either of them

  • I've never asked my best mates what they earn and they have likewise never asked me.

Maybe Hayes inflated his salary to a) make it look like he was earning more than he was b) because he thought what a cheeky bastard for asking c) was embarrassed to say that a pro footballer was only on 2.5k pw.

I thought our top wage last season was around 3k pw so no way was he on double that.
  • Are any of your best mates footballers?

If we've paid Hayes £400k so far for his "services " then we've been done and this would have to rank as SCP's worst bit of business (unless Alonso was on similarly high wages).

Don't know your mate, but are you 100% sure he didn't just give you a number that sounded plausible so he looked like he had some info ? Just ask as this seems to be completely out with our wage structur and Hayes really isn't the sort of player you'd break your wage structure for.
  • Due Diligence isnt worth a rats arse if it isnt actually taken any notice of---------RBS brought ABRN AVRO whne during their due diligence it was stated they were paying well over the odds and taking a mega risk.

Not a knock against Mr Varney but wasnt (or didnt) he come back with one of his main functions being that he was to find a buyer for the club ? didnt h

Completely agree, given our low revenue base, massive debts and new owners it's hard to imagine we would be paying someone three or four times the average L1 wage.

His on around 4.5k so his not earning 400k a year, more like around 215k.
