  • Force it. Start at Welling and hope that with another week passing it is not too late by then.
That's the direction I've been heading, ISLS.

Can someone be so kind as to sum up all the goings on please!?
I don't want to have to read through all 7 pages of this.
Haven't got any inside info other that what Ive read on here and credible posts on other forums but how I understand it:

    - Board member X has been obstructive causing unworkable relationship with PV and poss CP

    - Money invested by cash backer possibly not been used in intended means

    - The money man has understandably got the hump and withdrawn further funding indefinitely

    - Without said funding we have severe cash flow problems and without the return of this substantial funding either by original funder or new investment (which realistically is a huge challenge to obtain) we will struggle hugely to finance the running of the club in the short term (possibly only weeks) let alone the longer term.

    - Speculation that board member X moving on could resolve the issue and we can get back to worrying why we havent signed Van Persie yet.

-Some people want Andy Murray to win tomorrow whilst others don't.

May have got complete wrong end of it all but that's how Ive read it all.
  • Well I'm all for forcing issues, but right now I still feel we need to understand the issue better, and then know what we want to achieve. We've got to be better than just a bunch of fans screaming "sack the board".
  • I sense that some kind of momentum is slowly building here on CL. Let's try and remain positive and, most importantly, focused on what we might be able to do.

For my part I have attempted to redirect members of the CAFC facebook group to this discussion forum to get them involved (but more importantly make them aware) of the situation.
  • We need to make people realise that we can do more than prompt club statements because a few people have a look at Companies House.

What we can do before next Saturday though I don't know. Sparrows Lane?

    Cheers for that! Top fella.
Especially enjoyed the Andy Murray part, rest of it not so...

No thanks my mate did a millwall fan once and was down the clinic for months (only joking SLL) ;-)
  • Prague I agree that noone understands 100% the full picture including: the issue(s), the structure of the club that might be hindering solutions, what solutions might be out there, the timescale etc. but I fear that with the way things have been run in terms of transparency since the December before last we will only be 100% in the picture at the point it is too late.

    For some positive news...

I won a Batista action figure in a raffle today!
  • We need to be careful in terms of protesting etc.

I'm all for doing what's right for my football club but we need to be clear about what we are trying to achieve here, are we sure TJ is the issue and if so focus on him as an individual?

Plus how is us protesting going to effect potential investment? Kicking off a shitstorm is hardly going reflect well.

If were pinning our hopes on Mr Cash riding his horse back in and saving the day involving the press and banding his name around in public will be a calamity, if his heading for hills now he'll be half up Everest if public interest grows in him.

I'm all for vigilanty justice but let's think this through and gather as much info as we can.

  • Thanks to all for making the situation alot more clear. I'm now fully convinced we're in a bad place unless something happens involving board member X.

I just feel really pissed off that we can't do anything about it.
  • The problem as I understand it is that the entire 'plan' (to rebuild the club) had TJ firmly at the centre - without TJ, there is no 'plan'.

It has been my view all along that the mysteron(s) had no interest in football but backed TJ who knows his stuff and the club was available for nothing. Seeing his removal as a cure would be like removing someone's entire brain because they have a tumour - the tumour will be gone but so will the patient's future.

On a different note, the supporters trust idea is a neat one but it would still own a club operating under an approx £4m deficit - unless the trust can find a way of funding that gap (presumably whilst maintaining full control), it is a non-starter.

Administration doesn't solve this problem (worryingly in itself) because the club has an operational deficit problem not a debt problem - this is true of most clubs incidentally which is why some seem in perennial difficulty even under different owners and even post-administration.

I suspect the medium to long-term plan was for Charlton to break-even in the Championship through judicious use of the Academy and player trading, but it may take 3-4 years to get there - if achieved the owners have a very cheap option on
    Premiership promotion.

In the meantime there are still those pesky deficits and some (limited) legacy debts (some of which came due this season incidentally [disclosed in the accounts]).

  • Sure, I'm with you. Nothing wrong with voicing our concerns at Welling, I guess. I would just say two things for now to everyone:

    1. There's always a temptation to look for an easy target. Let's resist that until we are sure.

    2. Be aware that almost certainly somebody from the Board or people close to individual members will be on CL and reading these threads, even participating in them. Its a fact of net life. But lets always post on the assumption that 'EKW' or more likely someone close to him is reading.

i agree. from what I’ve read on here, (come back just like last weekend and find hundreds of posts) we need to find out (if we can) the actual issue between the egos.
We need to find out why the backer has refused money. At the moment i see no reason apart from a dislike towards TJ as he's a wide boy.
It would be great if we could unmask the backer.
The hole that is the debt seems rather large. Do we know who is dealing with the books at charlton? a firm? any good?
We hire prothero to do PVs job. Does that include helping out with managing finances?

From what i gather from it all... this is the time to be scared. and I’m suitably scared.
  • Reading this has made me realise the shittiest week in my life is going to get a little worse it seems. Sad times.
A shitty week in 'Charlton Life' to be sure. As I posted a week ago, as long as we are at The Valley in a couple of years that will do me.

I have no idea what's going on in your life WSS but on the Charlton side lets hope it won't be the end of our story.
  • Oh dear gosh, just read through a little from page 4-6, i didn't relize things where THIS bad,

I take that back. This is worrying. Sorry i was confused, I thought it was a small funding problem, not problems with in the board it self!

If TJ is the problem as has been alleged, he owns a good chunk of the share capital which might prove a problem if he decides to play hardball.

We have a mole in our midst.........
  • If TJ is the problem and it seems so then he needs outing

TJ is a ruthless hard nosed business man that's for sure

But one who falls out with his friends hugely and to a degree that causes court action

I'd wager that cash and him aren't on great terms and that he could be convinced to invest in someone else
  • I ain't scared I am fuming

    I'm both. Feel so helpless.
  • So basically if TJ goes it will help the current problem? If so is that our only solution at the moment or are there others?
  • @Bubble is right, and one of the reasons ive been trying to keep this a bit controlled for the last 2-3 weeks.

Screaming to all and sundry when we don't know what we want to achieve, or be 100% sure is the right outcome for the club runs the risk of making things worse, and as I said last weekend, could hinder a resolution or fresh investment.
  • Is it worth asking the bloke (Mike Ashley?) at Newcastle for some advice? He has had 'dealings' with people connected to us...not just Pardew.
  • .

    2. Be aware that almost certainly somebody from the Board or people close to individual members will be on CL and reading these threads, even participating in them. .
I take comfort from this. If they are reading then it's better to have communication and give them a chance to air their side of things if they deem it fit (as unlikely understandably as that would be). All the cloak and dagger stuff in modern football really detracts from what football should be about.

There does seem to be an urgent need for some sort of dialogue between supporters and the board rather than us speculation based on (reliable) info. Sooner rather than later. Surely better to have this dialogue rather than it coming out in the press when it's all too late.
  • Didn't Powell say he wanted signings on board by the time of the Welling game? Seeing as he seemed to get all his wishes granted last year, surely if there are no signings this week we will be much closer to knowing what financial and structural situation we are really in?
With all this doom and gloom who would want to join us - we are our worst enemy here, full stop.
  • May I advise that we make this a members only thread.
  • May I advise that we make this a members only thread.
I was going to suggest that a few pages ago but then thought what's the point. Anyone that wants to see that there are serious issues has had plenty floating on here for over a fortnight now and at some point people outside of this forum need to see things for themselves.

    Explain why

  • As only a small fry all I've seen while supporting Charlton is; a free happy years followed by relegation after relegation, clown manager after clown manager!
I thought things were starting to look up, but no! This makes mr feel sick that my beloved club has got so many problems that we can't do anything about! :(
