I would say disastrous rather than poor. We must not go down or I would fear for our future.0 -

Winning the league
Avoiding relegation is a success in our first season

Until we see the results of the transfers in and out, we can not guess how the season will pan out.
All we know is as usual we are later than many of our rivals in getting our transfer targets in.2 -

Yes a couple of clubs have done some business but we aren’t really any different to the majority in not having signed many yet, and that’s not even considering our season finished weeks after all of theirs1 -

If we were in League1 still I would agree, but we are playing catch up.
Let's see anyway, looking like another week without a signing, would be amazed if we go another week without one.1 -

An interesting video using AI to rank the Championship clubs by size. The results seem fair other than for Derby, and yes we are ranked higher than a certain other SE London side1 -

The results seem fair other than for Derby, and yes we are ranked higher than a certain other SE London sideJudging the size of clubs can be taken so many ways.I would say we are a similar size club to QPR, Birmingham being noticeably in front of us, but we are miles behind Wednesday.0 -
My only expectation is that we stay up without a relegation fight. If we carry on how we were at the end of the season I think that’s more than possible.Expecting us to be able to push for promotion this (or next) season is ridiculous. The Championship is probably the hardest league to play in, and we will need time to shape the right squad if we want to be promoted to and then stay in the Premiership. Our hopes have to be realistic, and it’s all about the timescale. Premier League football is eminently possible, but only if the owners are not mad, bad or Belgian (or a combination of the three) and the Manager has a plan and some nous - and crucially nobody is too eager to run before they can walk.4
-
I’m hoping we can be competitive, not get relegated and build the team over the next couple of seasons into a squad pushing towards promotion. Oh and a few great results against some of our old enemies lol3

4th from bottom will be good enough. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.1

Just seen a YouTube video predicting the table after the first 5 matches. Has us 5th bottom with 5 points. 2 draws (Watford & Leicester) and 1 win........
At home to Millwall.
That youtuber has a lot to learn. 😀17 -
If we go into the last month of the season not fearing the chop it will have been a huge success.10

I hope that we can recruit well enough to stay up, but judgement stays reserved on that until I see who we get through the door. Several of the names mentioned so far feel like they have us on the right track, but we're naturally going to be competing for a lot of the same kind of players. I hope that we can compete financially for them, and suggestions elsewhere on here give me some hope for that. However, when players like Small (or potential signings) get the glint of coin in their eyes, it is in this aspect when I feel like we might struggle to get enough quality.
Defensively, we should be fine if we bring in some cover and get a solid keeper in. Like when Jones first came in, we'll need to be tough to break down. More scrappy Jonesball, more tight games and more games decided by a goal or two. We might take a few beatings against teams that have genuine quality and pace, but it's of greater importance we are hard to beat against the teams like Hull etc. that will be down in the scrap.
It's in the top end of the pitch I have more concerns, and where most investment will need to happen. Godden cannot be left isolated if we start with him, and will need much more support. He's still got enough quality to score goals at this level, but much like Berry last year, we'll probably need to be careful with his minutes. Other players will need to step up or be brought in. Again, we're not going to be favoured in many games this season, but we need to take the limited chances we will probably get and build upon solid home form, as we did last year. A few sneaky away wins would be massive.
I hope we can stay up, but with both other L1 promotees having silly money, it's looking around at at least a couple of established Championship sides going down. This naturally makes our job harder. I think having a strong manager and core defensive unit should be enough - it's just whether we can score enough goals to stay up. It's not my money (so it's easy to say), but I would spend as aggressively now as we can afford to give us breathing room pre-January.
Not going to be easy, by any stretch. Signings we make in the next month or so, and their ability to embed, will make the difference.2 -
Leicester are an interesting one, very unsettled behind the scenes, no manager and a likely points deduction. Loss of Jamie Vardy also likely to have a big psychological effect, as he has bailed them out so often.
Could easily go down if they get off to a bad start?3 -
I think we need to see the business we do but it feels we are in a much better place than where we were last time we went up from League One. Would I put it past Jones getting a play off place by hook or by crook? Absolutely not. Surely we fans have learned from last season.1
-
If we can stay up - Lower Mid table - with some memorable wins across the season and Nathan Jones making us hard to beat again - that will be a great first season back.
As fans we will be very happy with that and the the hope will remain.
We will see increased numbers at the Valley for sure, if we actually got some momentum we could regularly over 20k - Most games looks like glamour ties compared to the trash we have witness for the recent past.
A couple of surprise signings in the next few weeks will add to our expectation and excitement levels.
I actually think Nathans "defence first" strategy will serve us well in the Champ.
Nathan still has a lot to prove to himself more than anyone else.
Survival first but I think 13th is not a bad shout once we find our feet and lose our fear.

I’m probably just trying to protect myself emotionally in believing that not staying up won’t necessarily be the end of us as I think relegation is by far the most likely outcome next season.3 -

Ipswich will be a lot lower down than predicted
Don't forget they went back to back promotions to get to the prem and they have lost their main goal threat.
This is, in effect, year 3 of a 5 year plan they probably had in mind when they got promoted up to the Championship0 -

If we get relegated this season we will largely have a squad assembled all under Jones knowing relegation is a possibility so you’d like to think would all stick around for a year to see if we could immediately bounce back.
Hopefully won’t come to that though, onwards and upwards.1
