Championship expectations

edited April 2012 in General Charlton
So, now we're up. What would you expecting us to do next season? Looking for promotion? playoffs? Top half? Avoid relegation?
Personally, I would be happy with anything above 15th or so. As long as we aren't in a relegation scrap during the last few games.

  • With the current squad I'd expect mid table. I expect SCP to be busy again over the summer, maybe not quite as busy as the last though.
  • be very happy with midtable
  • Its weird, cause I don't think we're as good as the Norwich/Southampton teams that went up, but we're going to finish the season having done better than both of them.
We can say we'll take a mid-table finish, with a few nice results along the way. But often there is very little between mid table and the play-offs.
    I reckon we'll finish 11th.

This for now but really, it hinges on who we bring in and how pre-season unfolds.
  • Mid table mediocrity would suit fine. I do quite enjoy this winning lark, though...
  • Repeat the Lepe pre season tour? Seemed to work out this season.
  • mid table, I'd really hope to be where brighton are, just outside the play offs.
  • Stay up and beating palace and millwall along the way just for good measure
  • Stay up, consolidate and be comfortable in mid-table

Ambitious aim would be top half

  • Mid table and above Millwall and Palace sounds good don't it?
  • With investment - Play offs
    Without - A struggle
  • Right now - mid table, but I wouldn't be suprised if we invest in the Summer which of course may alter expectations. The great thing about getting promoted so early means we have a full four months to go and get the right players without the caveat "if we go up we'll sign x"
  • Totally depends on how much money is spent this summer. The liikes of Norwich and Southmapton bought in a fair number of new players when they went up. If we're sentimetal and stick with the squad that won promotion, we will end in lower-mid table at best. Bu we won't. Powell, Jiminez and Slater know they have to bring in half a dozen new players who will be first XI choices, to add to a surviving spine of Solly/Wiggins/Morrison/Jackson/BWP/Kermogant. If they bring in the right names, we could be challenging for the play-offs and will do at least as well as Brighton have done this season.
  • This squad bottom third. With investment who knows ?

agreed, scouting staff can get busy now looking for high end championship players. Get into the market early like we did this season as well.

When paddy power pay out on my bet 12/1, I will put some of it on us to do the business again. Just look at Norwich and Southampton. 3-4 signings and who knows.
  • Can we enjoy the last 3 games first?
  • The last 2 years all 3 clubs (Norwich, Leeds, Millwall) (Brighton, Soton, Peterborough) have all stayed up - I think Peterborough are safe - and many have gone up again or got very close, so history suggests that teams going up have a good chance of doing reasonably well.
  • Like most, I'd take a season to consolidate, finishing 10th/12th position. That's of now though, going to wait and see what the summer brings before I make a solid prediction.

Have to say I'm already getting excited about what's ahead.

  • Obviously depends an awful lot on which teams are there as well and what they do but a couple of signings I would be confident of a top half finish
  • Staying there and not being relegated would be a good start.
  • Do the bounce and end up in the top flight the following season, because were MASSIVE!!
  • I think everyone here is being cautious so as not to tempt fate. This Board are not here to piss about. I expect they will spend again to push for promotion. Autos/playoffs will def be the target.
  • Anything above Palace (and the drop zone).
  • With investment - Play offs

    somehow i think you wrong
  • With this squad top by 3 points, with investment I expect us to be let into the Champions League so we can win that as well as both of the beer cups
  • When paddy power pay out on my bet 12/1, I will put some of it on us to do the business again.

Thought you were going to say that you'd be making a significant investment in the club, enabling us to buy all our A-list targets!! ;-)
  • I wonder what the fans of Norwich and Southampton would have expected for the upcoming season as they were promoted from Div 1?
