Just bought myself one of these, for no other reason than I think they are cool (purely vanity reasons, I am ashamed to say)
Now what I need help with is what to make it do, I want to put some films on it and my skyplayer for the sports etc
What apps other than angry birds do I need?
What rating out of 10 do they get?
I have bought a used one too, 1st generation so if in a few weeks I do not like it it can go to someone else for what I paid for it I hope
Will it kill the itunes on my laptop if I plug it into that?

no it won't kill your itunes but will synch your itunes to your ipad so depending on how much music you have on your lap top and what GB your ipad has it may not be able to synch it all so you will have to go to itunes and tell it what music you want synched, if any.
Good for films esp when on a long train/plane trip. I'd add BBC iplayer, ITV player etc as you can catch-up on TV programmes then. If you have Sky then add Sky Go too.

Itunes has got better, we sync an iphone 3g, iphone 4, and now an ipad 3 to one library, and it remembers settings for each device, apps and music etc. Only need to reset ticked selections when adding new stuff/albums as our tastes are different.
Well I don't have one, but would like one. I get by on my iPhone for most things now, but an iPad would be great for movies, pictures, tv, spotify etc. I barely use the laptop anymore, apart from at work. I was surprised how good the iphone was when i got one, probably will be the same with the ipad. Now just need to magic up a few hundred pounds!
You could buy a £150 Android Tablet instead look on Amazon and give it a go first. I bought a 7 inch Lenovo tablet use it on the way to work with Kindle, play games etc, the kids have a couple of £100 mystery make units and they love them. Have a few SD cards with different films loaded on them so can swap easily attached to head rests in cars....
We wont get the first Kindle fire in the UK but will get the new version.
I was playing on a colleagues in work the other day. No idea where she got it but I think it was a UK company that supplied it. Was quite impressed and likely to do everything I need it for at some significantly less wonga than an iPad. A lot more portable too.

Try Flipboard (free), BBC News and if you're a PC user then Dropbox will be useful. The iPad is great for 95% of routine tasks - for the remainder you need a PC.
Just got a 64GB one for work. Screen is nice and it's handy for flicking through mails or browsing the web, but functionality wise it just isn't a sub for a laptop for me. Switching between applications is clunky. There are just some things in windows that it either can't do or that I can't be bothered to google how to find out how to do them, so I'm not really a convert. Still, it's small, looks nice and has a great screen (which will be covered in fingerprint quickly).
So computer packed inandn am now using the IPad solely... Got it all linked via iCloud for iPhone and iPad and have jail broken both, the stuff you can do with a jail broken iPad is blinding....
Is there a telephone in the market at a reasonable price that will enable me to make and take a phone call, send and receive text messages, take photographs of my beautiful new grandson which I can e mail and access Charlton Life for reading and posting?
Or should I stick to the mantra that a phone is a phone and a computer is a computer?
I've JB mine using Absinthe, not had any issues whatsoever. Just remember to take a backup and save your SHSH Blob with a program like TinyUmbrella.

Thinking of JB my iPhone just to access the root to try recover a deleted video. The latest Absinthe JB recommends to erase all content first though, which defeats the object for me.
I've JB mine using Absinthe, not had any issues whatsoever. Just remember to take a backup and save your SHSH Blob with a program like TinyUmbrella.

It's a file that stores the unique ID of your phone, along with it's type and version (Apple use it to verify your phone through iTunes, make sure it's running the latest version, etc). It's basically used if you wish to downgrade your software after jailbreaking if you're not happy with the way things have gone. Find it slow, buggy, etc.
You can use Absinthe still to JB, they just recommend deleting everything to speed up the process of the jailbreak itself.
