  • Something about Tuesday nights at home doesn't seem to agree with us.

My concern is the centre-midfield. Thought our pairing were second best on Saturday and second best again tonight. They don't seem to be able to dominate the game in the way you would expect from a team 13 points clear. Haynes looked sharp again. Maybe time for him to start on Saturday.
I am not convinced by Stephens, he does seem to go missing for big chunks of games and I am not sure that Hollands plays his best when paired with him.

  • Played worse and not lost, this is nothing to worry about. Hamer got punished for what he does every game. Notts County are going to get absolutely destroyed
  • Hamer young and learning. He'll be even better next season than he has been this.
  • What's happened to Hughes? Him and Hollands in CM allows Hollands to get forward and Hughes to do the "dirty work".
  • As long as lessons are learned its OK.

Timing of substitutions maybe better ? Perhaps CP could have used a bit of squad rotation, though I understand not wanting to change a winning team, but did we play that well Saturday ?

We should not take for granted that we are going to win every game. It will put a temporary halt to all the 'we are already promoted' threads.

Maybe the players were starting to think we are already promoted ?

We are still miles ahead. Hopefully, not too much to worry about. I just hope the Charlton team doesn't start replicating the 1980 / 81 season. I never underestimate the capacity for the Charlton team to start torturing just near the winning post.
  • Thanks Red and others for the running commentary. CP said we would lose a few but beginning to think we couldn't. Looks like the stats said we gave it all but just one of those nights. Here's to a better rub of the green Saturday and getting some more points on the board. Thanks Walsall for keeping the Blades from making up some room. Always thought Colchester were a bit of a bogey team for us. COYR!!
  • I didn't see the match, but Stephens was the preferred midfielder at start of the season before his injury, and has come straight back into the starting line up. Not done too bad has he? Are you guys being harsh? In CP I trust!
  • I'm to blame, had two pints before the game, first time for over a year. Sorry.
  • We were second best in most challenges I felt. Would like to see russel in for Stephens on Saturday to add a bit of bite to midfield. Otherwise there is no need to worry! Hopefully just a little reminder that we aren't up just yet
  • Used to love midweek games at The Valley but like Airmans superb article in the programme tonight I dread them now

Roll on the next away game because as I keep saying that's where we will win the league

Can't be arsed to rant about my 2 favourite players Green and Hamer they won't be in the side next season so don't panic folks

  • Russel Cort Wagstaff Hays are all good enough at this level , if they are needed.

13 points clear -----------ITS DREAM LAND.

Start of the season we would all be happy to be in the top six.
  • Thouight we were average - we've played worse this season and won though. Col U defended very well. Agree with maybe giving Haynes a run-out on Saturday, but dropping Kermo would be madness, once again he won almost everything in the air.
  • Why isn't Waggy even making the bench?
  • not our night, players will want to put it right on Saturday.

would make a change in centre midfield, we need more energy.

not a Green knocker but he was poor and Haynes deserves a go now.

fair play to Col U, big, ugly, time wasting meanies...did their jobs well & a cracking goal from Wordsworth.

A FEW of the crowd got on my tits, yet again.

first half i thought we played some really decent stuff when the ball was ON THE FLOOR!

that long diagonal we play 300 times per home game to kermogant doesnt do us any favours. he wins more than his fair share of headers but we never get much from it. when solly had the ball coming forwards a few times, there was decent movement from the front two, they linked up well and we created. It suits BWP so much and Kerm has a great first touch. We need to use this more often.

Green does nothing for me. Sorry, i know this team is the bollocks and i shouldnt be moaning but he is the one thing that disappointed me this season.

Hamer, your right footed...the ball wasnt coming to you that quickly...why did you take a touch onto your weak foot???

fair play to them. they played awful football but they defended well, scored a screamer and looked comfortable second half.

we will still win league comfortably but i dont really enjoy watching us at home that much and that seems strange for a team that only lost their first home game of the season.

solly first half was a joy to watch.
  • Exactly. Yann wins the headers but I don't think we should hoof it up to him so much. We need to try to keep it on the floor.
Give him a rest and try Haynes for a bit of pace.
  • dont think he needs a rest. he just needs the ball into his feet more.
  • In a minority by the looks of things but I thought we played okay tonight, certainly better than any of the other recent night games. Conceding an early goal was just about the worst thing that could have happened though because defending was clearly their strong point and that gave them license to do that for the next 87 minutes. If we had scored the first, we'd have won at a canter.

    Onwards and upwards on Saturday.
  • What a load of shit, left 10mins early and got home half hour early so not too bad

  • nite lads/lassess sorry its turned out bad...........but we are still 13 points clear of 2nd............14 from 3rd..........15 from 4th

If we had 26 points less we'd drop out of the play offs!

  • Excellent goal from Colchester early doors and then nothing to concern us for the rest of the game really other than self-inflicted problems. Green was poor first half. Livened up a bit second half but not doing enough for me to keep his place. Stephens/Hollands combo in middle not doing it for me either.

Would like to see a few changes on Saturday to show the players that they can't get complacent and their places are not guaranteed just because they've got us where we are. We need to maintain our form for the whole season or at very least until we are guaranteed promotion.
  • Credit to Col U who did a "Charlton" on us. Defended well, threw their bodies in front of shots when needed and protected their keeper.

And if you re-read the preview thread someone said to keep half an eye on Wordsworth and Gillespie : - ) Two players who might be back at the Valley next season.

Thought Hamer was caught out for the first and was obviously to blame for second but there were a few others who were not on form. When Green is good he is very good and when he's bad he's.......

But in the words of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy "Don't Panic"

  • What a funny old game (thanks Greavsie!) apart from a wonder strike and a run down,,CUFC didnt offer anything. Thought we looked tired and leggy tonight and apparantly did at bournemouth too, i'd bring in Russell for Hollands and Haynes for Green to freshen it up a bit. In SCP we trust.

How did Gillespie, Wordsworth and Magnus play? .... Interested to know if they'd improve us

No complaints. Beaten fair and square. Disapointed with the attendance again given the euphoric last few months. Think the club should consider giving away ticket priority to fans who actually go to home games.

Wordsworth scored a wonder goal, Gillespie made a nuisence of his self and Magnus was outstanding in a rearguard action. Henry may have a point ;-)

Agree with Henry other than when Green is good he is poor and when he is bad he is ....

Some people on here wet themselves over him and he has been rubbish since day one

Pace of an 8 year old, poor touch, awarness, selfish, hits 1 good cross in 100
But we will still win the league so will worry about that in the summer

    : - )

yes Magnus was another good player for them and someone we were meant to be chasing in the summer. Who knows?
  • Was surprised Hamer started after coming off injured Saturday and he played like he wasn't fully fit. He only just managed to get a clearance away just a few minutes before the second goal.
Agree with comments here that some are looking a little tired, Wiggins especially, hardly surprising after playing every minute of the season so far
