  • Just arriving at St Pancras now for the 10:55 so may have timed this just right, no moaning about Chesterfield from me, its a no win situation for them really.

Better to have 1000+ whinging addicks who are going Ooh ah or 30 odd loyals taking it in their stride? You can have your club back next week fellah when we all stay at home ;-)
Yeah cos there won't be 6500 home fans at the game today.
Think you misread it mate I was referring to 30 odd Charlton at Tranmere next week no critisism of your support! I know its cold but don't get so touchy ;-)
Am I allowed to get touchy about you slagging off Charlton fans yet again?

  • Surely our fixture pile up is the same as most other teams.Sheff Utd play there game in hand today. Sheff Wed depending if they play will have played 2 more if there game goes ahead.
  • Im not picking on Chesterfield but there should be a ruling that requires a decision before away fans start travelling. Fine if it's a local game but in this case the forecast had been bad for days. If it was a problem yesterday it was going to be a problem today, so make a decision. You won't get as much flak for calling a game off early when there is a late improvement in the weather. That boxing day fiasco was down to the ref wasn't it? Well make him get up earlier I say. He is being paid and us away fans ain't.

It costs plenty to follow your team away; more thought required by the organisers!
They are not interested in away fans.

If Sheff Wed win today then they will only be 4 points away from us and we have a very difficult fixture on Tuesday.
I know we will have 2 games in hand but there the team whose fixtures aren't being affected by the weather.
  • Paulsturgess, your original comment was that an idiot could've guessed that it would be off yesterday. You are now saying you are not a weather man and admit you were not at the pitch. The official who WAS at the pitch decided yesterday that there was a chance of that game going ahead. A very similar situation happened to our own club last week, admittedly the decision was taken earlier, but we don't know the circumstances of the league official who made the decision . Your disparaging remarks about Chesterfield could therefore be equally aimed at our own club. I think you are being very unfair to Chesterfield and no-one can be blamed for what has happened. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
  • Starting to think although not affected today, advanced train tickets are a bit of a liability between Nov-March. Car the way to go.

Yes but Tuesday Hudds, Weds, Utd and Stevenage all play each other so two draws and we win and happy days.

  • The game should have been postponed yesterday. A lot of people have been inconvenienced by the delay. Money has been wasted on travel and accommodation costs. At times like this, when the weather is generally bad, it is simply foolish for officials to 'hope for the best'. A second inspection was called for yesterday afternoon for this morning. If the official who inspected the pitch was that doubtful as to the state of the pitch, he should have called it off then and there, i.e. at yesterday's inspection. I don't know about Derbyshire but last night in Lincolnshire, just across country, the temperature reached -16C, just a bit colder than forecast. Wishful thinking apart, even a supreme optimist should surely have had the wit to expect a freezing night and a VERY cold Saturday.
  • Not surprised it's off but bloody gutted again. Roll on tuesday
  • Exeter away shoudn't be an easy game for wed. 4 points is still a healthy lead anyway.

  • Just say sorry Chesterfield
  • Look at Chesterfield's website - they have given reasons for the decision and have apologised for the inconvenience. Why do people have to blame someone else all the time, these things happen.
  • how the hell can sheff weds get away with it two weeks in a row. Milan up to his dodgy dealings again with the fa to do whatevers possible to get the game on.......
  • still like to know where bourneaddick got the new date of 28th from. A hit and run posting. Not impressed.

'these things happen' through at best blind wishful thinking, at worst gross stupidity. He jumped the red light and killed the pedestrian, 'these things happen' .. I'll say again, the game was in doubt yesterday even AFTER an inspection and should have been called off then.
  • The players will be chomping at the bit , well rested at a time when I was told that its not the physical tiredness but the mental side of it,

We will push on now you will see bwp will score 2 in the next game

    Right guess I need to be a little more plain speaking, my mistake;
1 I was not slagging off Chesterfield fans
2 I was not slagging off Charlton fans
3 I was slagging off Oohaah with an ironic quip about his post
4 Why is everyone bullying me, I thought all Charlton fans were supposed to me nice
5 No4 is also not to be taken seriously

RIght off to the Natural History Museum for the day now heard its mobbed out with Charlton dads with their youngsters today...

Its simple really. The forecast was for -6 overnight so it should have been cancelled yesterday. Others did it .

On a personal note i couldnt make today anyway due to work but a midweek rearranged game is ok for me - Happy Days.

Today i'm an Exeter fan !

  • Pretty much every other club in the league is going to be playing Saturday Tuesday for the next month, we have an advantage of having a big squad.

Reckon Wednesday will drop points today as well.

Disagree entirely. I don't understand how or why you are trying to justify this. Last week was different circumstances, not as cold and the cold snap had only just started so there had been less time to monitor how the pitch had been coping with the weather, so more reasonable thinking that it might be possible to get it on - indeed I thought last week could've been on, my amateur Saturday team played. But we made a play it safe decision to get it off at 9am. Nobody really complained at that as they understood the rationale behind postponing ASAP.

This decision should have been about foresight not hindsight. An idiot could've guessed it based on the weather and predictions yesterday - but as stated above a normal fan doesn't know what the capabilities of the pitch heating / covers are, so you have to trust that those who do are making a decision based on the predicted weather and what they know about their anti-freeze resources rather than just speculatively hoping it might not be as cold as expected. What was the highest it reached, barely over 0, in the daytime! It was only going to get colder at night so I don't think there was any danger of a drastic inaccuracy in the weather reports. And there is no excuse for the lack of information and late pitch inspection.
  • Lincsaddick, you say money has been wasted on travel costs but I would assume most people (me included) had booked advanced train tickets which are not refundable so it didn't matter when Chesterfield called the game off.
  • I'm with you Lincs, but we should know by now that when it comes to
Matters pertainIng to football , common sense and good judgement go out the window.
  • Our weather is very fickle and changeable; had the conditions not been as severe as they turned out to be, then there was the chance the match would go ahead. Had it been called off yesterday and conditions remained as they were, then the match might have taken place. If it had been called off yesterday, there would have been plenty of moans on here that they should have waited until today. You cannot please everyone and I am trying to take a more pragmatic view and think that some of the comments about Chesterfield FC on here are uncalled for.
  • If this weather keeps up it will be interesting to see when we call our game off on tuesday. Must be frozen now so lets call it off and save the MK fans travelling costs.

I'm glad you said that, I was hoping someone else might start off a MK Dons will it be cancelled thread as I thought I'd get lynched !! :-0

Forecast for Tuesday night is a lot milder. 8 c during the day and 4 or 5 c overnight.
  • today is it for the cold weather getting milder, be up to sixes and sevens by Tuesday
  • According to Chesterfield, the pitch was playable yesterday (and I imagine playable tomorrow) it's the temperature drop that caused the problem. From their point of view, if they had cancelled the game yesterday and the temperature didn't drop as much as expected, then it would have been a waste, I suppose, and no better for people with advance travel tickets, though that's easy for me to say from my living room...

Only 3 games on in L1, both Sheffield games plus the Hartlepool Bournemouth game.

    Peterborough West ham is off.

Only 3 games on in L2, at Bristol R, Hereford and Torquay

Only 2 in the conference, at Gateshead and Stockport
