I'm with you Lincs, but we should know by now that when it comes to Matters pertainIng to football , common sense and good judgement go out the window.
sadly M I A .. you're all too right, and we're all guilty of it .. who in their right mind would get so worked up about 22 men kicking a ball about .. still my ticket will be valid for the rearrangement and there's Man U v L'pool on the telly followed by England R U in Rome .. where it has been snowing all week !!.. have a nice weekend
Lincsaddick, you say money has been wasted on travel costs but I would assume most people (me included) had booked advanced train tickets which are not refundable so it didn't matter when Chesterfield called the game off.
there is that to it I suppose .. a bit like most of my ante post Cheltenham bets .. too many non runners .. have a nice weekend
Was awake at 5:30.Was on The 07:55 out of St Pancras, arrived in the very pleasant chesterfield and found an awesome Greasy Spoon. Sat down, tucked in and then told its off! Walked back t' station and the station manager allowed us to get the next train back rather than waiting till 19:36! At least one bit of luck! Long way for a fry up
Look at Chesterfield's website - they have given reasons for the decision and have apologised for the inconvenience. Why do people have to blame someone else all the time, these things happen.
Most sensible post of the lot. The home club and officials will be damned by someone whatever the decision and whenever it is made. If they'd have called it off yesterday and the weather wasn't so bad overnight (weather reports aren't always that accurate, you know) people would have been fuming. Sure it's a bummer especially for people who got on early trains and find themselves heading in the wrong direction once it's been called off, but in monetary terms most people going to the match would have already made their big outlays so waiting a bit longer doesn't make such a huge financial difference.
If this weather keeps up it will be interesting to see when we call our game off on tuesday. Must be frozen now so lets call it off and save the MK fans travelling costs.
Good point albeit a bit tongue in cheek. Average temperatures for February over the last 40 years are 4* this year to date it is 0.5*! With temperatures forecast to gradually rise from tomorrow 4* onwards up to 7* (heatwave) there is a fair to middling chance of Tuesday's match being on and I am sure the club will do everything in their power to get it on beacause we can't afford any more fixture congestion.
Some of the comments on this thread are, quite frankly, embarrassing.
Fellas crying because a pitch has frozen in the middle of winter and they weren't told individually about it immediately. Other fellas getting themselves into a lather because they don't know when the rearranged date is yet.
Just arriving at St Pancras now for the 10:55 so may have timed this just right, no moaning about Chesterfield from me, its a no win situation for them really.
Better to have 1000+ whinging addicks who are going Ooh ah or 30 odd loyals taking it in their stride? You can have your club back next week fellah when we all stay at home ;-)
Yeah cos there won't be 6500 home fans at the game today.
Think you misread it mate I was referring to 30 odd Charlton at Tranmere next week no critisism of your support! I know its cold but don't get so touchy ;-)
Am I allowed to get touchy about you slagging off Charlton fans yet again?
Right guess I need to be a little more plain speaking, my mistake; 1 I was not slagging off Chesterfield fans 2 I was not slagging off Charlton fans 3 I was slagging off Oohaah with an ironic quip about his post 4 Why is everyone bullying me, I thought all Charlton fans were supposed to me nice 5 No4 is also not to be taken seriously
RIght off to the Natural History Museum for the day now heard its mobbed out with Charlton dads with their youngsters today...
In that case I withdraw my touchy comments and apologise. Enjoy the museum.
I hope it's not the 28th. That is ( I think) the date scheduled for Kent Senior up game v Dartford. I know the players will be different but I wont be able to get to chesterfield and will probably go to dartford. Be a very strange feeling watching Charlton but trying to keep track of the real score 200 miles away!
I think the answer to that is pretty obvious. Damning people who are narked by events that have pretty much no effect on him.
For the record, I have no issue with a pitch freezing in winter. I have an issue with a professional football club not being able to organise a pitch inspection before official away travel departs.
Also less than impressed that we got more info on the situation from a friendly fan than we did from Chesterfield themselves.
Nothing wrong with being narked, frustrated, annoyed, disappointed, etc Clem.
But it's not really anybodies "fault" is it? Unless you want to blame Mother Nature. A 10am decision isn't really that late - 5 hours before kick off. Sure, a 9am decision may have been a bit more helpful to some and there's always going to be someone who's flown in specially for it, but there's no doubt that the 10am decision has saved lots of people lots of time.
reading this thread is a bit of an eye opener. how can the club cater for those fans that have made plans to travel to the game the day before, or 10 hours before k/o as the live on the south coast - how dare they not consider everyone - should they provide written apologies to any fans that travelled from overseas for the inconvenience? would that make anyone feel better?

It's one of those things, put it down to experience, fill your day with something else and move on. Yes, I have spent money on non refundable train tickets and will have to just write them off, frustrating and I won't be able to go to midweek away fixture whenever it is, so won't get to go to Chesterfield for a few years (hopefully) but nothing anyone could do about it.
I don't see how knowing what time the inspection was going to happen would have helped anyone. if you're train was going to leave, it was going to leave. Just because we're spoilt by the speed of information these days, we shouldn't come to expect everything immediately. People need to learn to get some perspective and some patience.
My Faith in British rail has been restored. If I had purchased my ticket for Chesterfield, yesterday two singles would have been £37.00 and non refundable, Today two singles £104.00 and a return £55.40.Asked ticket Guy if I could get a refund if match was postponed, answer NO. Having no news boarded train at Malvern link at 10.13 and having just pulled out of the station, got the news it was off. Got off train at Worcester Foregate Street and told to ask for Non issue of Ticket back at Malvern. Jobsworth looked at the clock and said it was a bit late but would refund the ticket. So a free return trip to Worcester and back, not very exciting!!
Not moaning just a slight gripe, I was driving up so my plan was to just wait till the decision was made, or Trundle on the m25 in case, but what they could have done was give us a definitive time of pitch inspection for today, I couldnt find one, there were rumours of 9am, 9.30, and then more than just rumour of half 10! A definitive time would of helped i little. Feel sorry for anyone further up the m1 or on the train, I know paulbaconsarnie was at Dunstable before turning round! They should of called it off yesterday really!
Hey ho onto the Franchise on Tues!
Still got no kids today they are overnight at in laws, what to do what to do?
just got in (turned back at dunstable junction) not read all comments but my only criticism of chesterfield is not giving a definate time for this mornings inspection.
for those blabbing on about they should've inspected before we travelled up, last week the rochdale fans coaches left at 8 o'clock that morning so it seems that some must think that we are a joke, tinpot club.
I want to know how the game was rearranged so quickly, its a conspiracy, they knew the game was off a month ago but still took out ticket and travel money!!!!!
Living in East London my journey was not that bad ,I got as far as Angel at Islington ,as others have said these things happen when thanks to CL I got the news .
I hope its not the 28th because I have a work commitment the next morning which I can't get out of and would imagine Charlton would not want it that night either because an 18 man squad (2 extra above the 16 ) would need to travel although I suspect that the Dartford game would get rearranged to accomodate this .
I noted that Airman said when posting about Rochdale that the league put pressure on the clubs to rearrange as soon as possible so I suspect it will be the 28th.
Gutted it`s off but haven`t lost anything as we didn`t buy match tickets in case it was going to be called off. Only made it as far as M25/M1 junction before it was called off. Filled the car up with juice early this morning but was going to do that anyway today regardless.

Agree with Suzi, s*** happens. I won't make the midweek game either but it's not the end of the world
Set off at 8.30 fully expecting a cancelation. Got as far as the South Mimms services and heard it was off while having a coffee. disappointed but not surprised.
Turned round and was back home before 12.00. Yes, it's a pain but other than not updating their website very quickly CFC didn't do anything wrong IMHO. They can't control the weather. It was -10 overnight which is far worse than any of the weather reports predicted.
For those wondering about the 28th, I heard it this morning if you don't want to take it as gospel fine just wait, some people on here know that I have fairly good contacts. That what I was told not saying its not going to change but that's the preferred date.
Just got back after getting all the way round the M25 ready to head oop north. Gutted but for a change I can the midweek game at the end of the month as I have holiday left. Up the Grecians and Chairboys!

Ho Hum, roll on Tuesday.
