Time for a change inbetween the sticks!

Hamer has been given too many chances as far as im concerned, he flaps on crosses, make too many erratic decisions and im not really quite sure what he was doing for there goal last night. Im well aware he has not conceded too many goals this season but i think thats largely down to the 4 infront of him. Powell has shown that he can be ruthless with team selection this season so hurry up and give Sullivan the chance he deserves!

  • Good god almighty. What have we got now, a scapegoat because we're only ten points clear at the top? Have a word with yourself.
  • good one...

    next
  • I'd point to his record and politely disagree. Not saying he hasn't got weaknesses but I think he is a little better than Sullivan. Conceeding one goal in the whole of January doesn't back your argument up very much.
  • 1 goal in 5 league games. Get rid!

Absolutely - Hamer hasn't scored a single goal this season either. Clearly CP is being told to play him.

  • he will improve ---- playing...... not sitting on the bench --

I like his arrogance - and commitment and especially how he kindly helped the Bury No7 off the pitch.
  • Good wind up mate, if Sullivan is the answer what is the question?

    Spot on!
We need to nurture him so he can become even better.
Dont get the haters for Hamer & don't think he was totally to blame for the goal either :-/
  • Did their goal go through his hands?

From the East it looked like he got a hand to it and thought he could've done better with it
  • Hamer's flapped a few times, but think of the saves, especially against Exeter in the last few minutes!

  • zzzzzzzz.
  • Hamer is fine for this level, not sure he could have done much about the goal last night. Not sure if he'll be ready to play at Championship level week in week out next season - the mistakes he makes will be punished far more reguarly there, but I guess we'll cross that bridge in the summer.
  • The ball seemed to fly through his hands. He thanked Stephens on Twitter for 'getting him out of a hole' so seems to accept he should have done better. However, I think taylor was equally to blame as he got the wrong side of the scorer.
I like Hamer. He will get better by playing and his 'weaknesses' will be worked on and improved.
  • I think he is a bit suspect at times. Seems to make a few mistakes but more than capable at this level. Whether he's be able to handle any step/s up we'll see.

Better than Sullivan though and his distribution is decent too.
  • Not a wind up.

I don't think he'll cut it in the championship, their keeper was head and shoulders above him. If we go up (LOL!) I would bring in a new goalkeeper. He's fine in League One though.
  • Being polite....F OFF

  • just because a team is doing well does not mean it cannot improve, Hamer tends to have 1 or 2 errors in him every game. Last night it proved costly, against Sheff U he got lucky, against Orient it was costly.

Quite right too at the same time we should also drop Solly Taylor Morrison , wiggins , Green , Holland, Stephens etc etc. in fact on last nights performances we should play clarke in every position.

  • We should get De Gea in.

Exactly, you'll never achieve perfection and there's nothing wrong with criticism. Not sure about the scapegoat comment as we're top of the league, very strange.

  • Lets bring back Nicky Weaver or Rob Elliot as they are clearly better!
  • It's like saying we should have put Simon Royce in goal after Deano threw that one in against Swindon.

Hamer is alright, young and will get better, he made a boo boo, shit happens, just deal with it and move on

Or the amount of times Robbie threw the ball in his own net in the 09/10 season! People have to stop finding things wrong when its so so good at the moment!

Keily who was putting in great performances all season and only made that one mistake? Strange comparison.
  • He's called Francis4England. I don't think he's taking life on this board too seriously..
  • I don't understand the "we're top of the league so nothing can be improved" comments. Just because we're in a good position does not mean that we should be resting on our laurels and thinking all is perfect. If there is something that can be done that will improve the team then there's nothing wrong with talking about it.

I'm not sure that dropping Hamer would fall into that category but that's only because I don't think Sullivan would be any better. Neither is an exceptional keeper but they are adequate in this division and with the 4 players that are usually in front of them. I doubt either will be first choice next season if we are promoted though.
  • not having a dig at you francis4england but this is why I become exasperated with the Charlton crowd sometimes.

the moaning I heard last night was laughable. we have a team who are sitting 10 points clear at the top, best defensive record in the league etc etc and yet people still invoke their right to moan. yes it was frustrating last night but that is football. we will not turn teams over by 3's & 4's all the time just because we turn up.

back to Hamer-i defy you to name me any Prem keepers who do not have bad moments or make poor decisions, De Gea, Cech, Reina, any Arsenal keeper you care to mention, even Joe Hart. Their goal last night wa drilled and the player shouldn't have been allowed to get in that position before he shot. you could also argue that we should have stopped the build up play leading to the goal.

His record is good but that is mainly due to the four in front of him.
i wouldn't really want him between the sticks in The Championship.
He worries me with crosses and god knows what he was up to with that goal last night..
  • and so has Ben, first goal he's conceded since Boxing day, I'll live with that
