  • I thought Solly was fantastic today, particularly as Green did very little to help defensively. This was a really good victory against a good side. Sheffield didn't dominate as their manager might like to think. They started well but faded as the first half went on. Then for a long spell at the start of the second half we were well on top. It was only when we started to pull our players back in the final quarter of the game that Sheffield looked threatening and even then they didn't make any clear chances. On the down side, Hamer unfortunately reminded me at times of Saca Illic at his worst, flapping at or missing crosses that any competent goalkeeper should take in their stride. I am also increasingly concerned at our lack of forward power (and goals) so far in 2012. It's almost a month since one of our strikers scored and it's not as if they are having lots of chances to put away either. I hope they'll do better against some of the teams coming up who are not so high in the table.
  • Great result, and we find ourselves in a fantastic position. I think that if we could now add a truly first class Goalkeeper, that would clinch it.
Strange how we started the season with flowing football, beating teams 4-0 with BWP scoring for fun. Now we have become The Alamo, and BWP can't buy a goal. Having said all that, boy am I having a good time.
  • Not buying into this anti Hamer business! He is the first keeper in yeeeeeeears that comes off his line for crosses! He is also the most commanding goalkeeper we have had at the club in a long time. I think this is part of the fact why Morro and Taylor have looked so accomplished at centre back!Hamer is a good goalie, bit shaky today but was top drawer against Wednesday!

  • Love it when away fans come on and bring out the old 'we sang more than you' line. No evidence to suggest it ever has an effect on the outcome of games.

We couldn't give a toss who sang more. I'll tell you what we're more interested in:

Charlton Athletic 1 Sheffield United 0
    Played 26 Won 18 Drawn 6 Lost 2
    7 points clear

    End of.
  • Well I must admit it was a tight tense game, Sheffield look a very similar outfit to us although I think on the whole we played the better football. Think a one goal margin was about right although we were on the back foot for large parts of the second half but Sheffield were limited to long range efforts and never really troubled out tight back four ...... Would like to say back 5 but thought Hamer was awful today, came for plenty and got little and with a bit more quality up front for them today we could have been in trouble. Anyway onwards and upwards :-)
  • good shout cafc_se7

    12 clean sheets
9 games with 1 goal conceded
4 games with 2 goals conceded of which we won 3 and drew 1

this is Div 3, he will step up a notch IF we get in Div 2
  • once again we did just enough to get the result
it felt as though we decided to hang on for the last half hour when we'd be better off pushing up a bit more but what do i know result achieved
hamer was a joke today i'm all for him going for the ball and being proactive but at least give it a decent punch or stick back if you're gonna get nowhere near it
seeing how flappy he was i thought the chip butties would have had more digs at goal but they didn't
just reading the opinions on here about russells sending off proves what an impossible job officials have
i've seen it live and on telly and i'm still not sure , i "think" his leading foot gets the ball but goes over the ball so that is where the ref would have seen the danger and would have been what resulted in the red card

thought our support was quiet for a team romping the league

that celebration at the end with SCP brought a lump to my throat and a little welling up in the eye, i love him

champions 45% runners up 35% play offs 20%

Just like to add and agree with others blade's support was top notch. Very noisy and good variety of unique songs. Always liked their version of Annie's song.

Also big credit to Blades fans for clapping out academy kids as they filed past at 1/2 time
  • Their possession was mainly pedestrian, across our banks of four where Hollands and Pritchard harried relentlessly. When it did go wide our full backs prevented crosses so it went back to full backs to loft it in from easy defended areas. We moved it quicker with better angles through the middle but were conservative about getting support forward. Now we are pulling clear I'd like us to impose ourselves more and take risks for big scores.
  • we haven't taken over 2000 away in the league this season

  • What is it with the Dee-Dahs coming on and giving it "we sing more songs than you"? The Wendies last week, the Blunts this week. Never mind.....Good luck in the play-offs.
  • The thing that done hamer today was after a back pass he sliced it out of play , from that point on he seemed to have a confidence issue and nothing worked for him,

Not a problem between the sticks imo he has done well all season and has saved us enough points to warrent a few bad calls and games
  • Oohaah - often the larger northern clubs have quite a few supporters living down south, therefore swelling the numbers of the away support when visiting London clubs.

So a direct comparison with our away support is not really a proper comparison.

    And?
  • i didn't think the atmosphere was as good as you'd expect

    from us or them

maybe the tension of the occassion got to the fans

and i can't see where i'm bigging them up live by the sword

no more comments on our support for this thread from me cos too many touchy peeps who hang on my view ;-)

Keep to the thread please chaps.

Any more pointless, unrelated posts on 'support' will be removed. To many of these post match threads are going a similar fashion now.

    Thank you
  • You tell 'em boss.
  • Did they have a 'special' song for Ched Evans? I may have misheard tbf.
  • can't wait to see jackos freekick again on fl show. Hard to tell at the time but better or worse than the one vs weds?
  • Well said that man

It was a ding ding balls on the line contest which we won let's bloody celebrate 10 points off of 2 of the 4 teams in the mix

suporting an alleged rapist. very classy.

    thick northern .
  • 'Allegedely'
  • AFKA - lighten up, we were talking about the support at today's game, what's wrong with that on a thread about today's game?
  • edited January 2012
well they seem to think he done it with that song and seem quite happy about it too!

    edited anyway.
  • we've just got a massive result and gone 7 points clear and people are arguing about the support, bloody hell
  • Because every single time when we should be flipping ecstatic about the achievements on the pitch we end up bickering over who has the biggest cock and it gets annoying

And seeing as I have the point is irrelevant

Ah, I thought that was it but assumed that no one would be crass enough to sing something in such poor taste.

Anyway back to the thread I'm surprised BWP has come in for some flack. Thought him and Yann put a real shift in today without getting anything to show for it. You expect that of YK but it's something that Bradley has added to his game imo. He just needs one to go in off his backside or something to get him going again.
  • Has anyone noticed that in L1 we haven't conceded a goal so far this year.
  • BWP is not lazy. He tracked back for Solly and was playing as a right back at one point.
