The half hearted nothingish appeal from the sheff utd attacker who had done a very good sly job of pulling hamer makes it pretty clear he knew he had been caught and the ref really should have booked him imo but hamer has to beef up a little in these situations
I have no probem in acknowledging that Sheff Utd played well but I can't see why Danny Wilson and their fans have to invent injustices that actually didn't occur in the game. Of course - if you were the Sheff Utd player and you hadn't pulled Hamer back, you would have been a lot more animated - take it from those of us who were near the play.
Should Kermogant have got booked or sent off for what he did (pulling a shirt). Certainly not a sending off - Should Beattie have got sent off for strangulation - well of course. Beattie should have pulled Kermogants shirt then he might have only been booked! What is Danny Wilson on about saying Kermogant should have gone too? It was in the middle of a melee and he din't raise his arms to anyone - you cant send half of each team off.
Their one real chance was when Hamer fumbled a speculative cross - we had 2 Green efforts, Kermogant over the bar in a game of few chances- which is how we engineered it to be after we had taken the lead. Professional - yes- not pretty - yes you can argue that but this was an important game and we played it in a way that suited us.
First chance to get on here since the match so I haven't read everything else. We outplayed the second best team in the league and by far the best team to come to The Valley this season There's not much more to say on the performance than that Brought a friend along whose last match at The Valley was the Exeter debacle last year and he couldn't believe he was watching the same team (though in all honesty he sort of wasn't). He thought we were quality, moved the ball well and picked out Wiggins and Pritchard as players of real quality. I was a bit disappointed at how subdued Kerms was but he pulled out a pretty special bicycle kick that went close to back up all my gushing about him before the game. Impressed by how willing Haynes was to muck in an challenge for the ball as well as I felt he'd be a quick but lightweight player. Sending off was a nonsense in reality, if that's a red then there's not much point anymore. Very grateful to Beattie for evening it up for us though.
The only negative I had on the day was Hamer. He was bloody dreadful. His punching was weak, he attempted to give Sheff U several open goals, and his passing was off with the exception of one excellent kick out. Mostly though, I hate his time wasting. He got booked this time, but for every kick he switches the ball over to the other side, faffs, taunts the opposition players and winds their fans up. We don't need that. Our new 'Dirty Dirty Charlton' moniker is laughable but at the same time he's not doing us any favours by acting like a muppet. But if your only gripe from a match is your keeper's social antics and his poor performance within a clean sheet then you've had a pretty good day I'd say.
There was also a reasonable penalty shout - a raised arm from a reasonable distance - when we've all seen them given for an arm alongside the body or blasted at an arm from three feet away.
Yes, the ball was definitely goalbound and a lot of refs would have given it but I think you could understand why it wasn't given - see United fans, that's how it's done.
It's amazing the way things get distorted through the medium of radio and the views of a manager who has to big up his team, especially when they've just been beaten. I looked at the Blades fans forum and many on there seem to think they absolutely ran Saturday's match - one even said they were all over us for 90 - 95% of the game. That certainly wasn't the game I went to! And I'm getting really tired of the 'lucky Charlton' whine that keeps coming up. In the last 2 months we've beaten the teams currently second, third and fourth in the table - and ninth (twice) - without conceding a goal and yet, with the sole exception of Lee Clark, the managers of the losing teams have all come out with the 'would've, could've, should've' line and 'lucky Charlton', now apparently varied to 'lucky, dirty, cheating Charlton'. Don't they realise that, like Gary Player, the harder we practice, the luckier we get!
Good point, Clark was the most honest and fair despite his reputation. I haven't got a problem with a manager or fans saying they played well and deserved something but making up injustices just isn't on. The truth is, we had the best chances and had that little bit more quality were it mattered. Had the same nonsense with Wednesday last week. I remember saying a few weeks ago - If all opposing managers and fans were right we would be propping up this league rather than walking it!!!!
The reason we are top is simple- we are rthe best team in this league - Of games against the top 5 we have played 6 - won 4 drawn 2 lost 0. That says all that needs to be said.

This also emphasizes that powells past as a defender is being mirrored on the pitch ...
Absolutely, my thoughts exactly.
Was VERY impressed with how well organised the defence was.
Sheff U deserved a point... But... Thats what potential champions will do to others
Hamer was fouled by being pulled back, we restricted the team in second place to ONE shot on target.
That's good play not luck.
Let's give our team a bit of credit instead.
