Had a chat with a blade on the way back to the car. He reckoned we're the toughest side he'd seen all year. He wasn't impressed with our play today though and thought they deserved something out of it. Having said that, he said we deserved to be top. Couldn't help but agree with all that. I told him it was one of our ugliest victories and that it was credit to his side that we needed to win ugly to get past them today. We then had a little laugh about deluded Massives and parted agreeing that the teams to go up should be CAFC, SUFC and HTFC.
I agree thought we were poor today, nowhere near as good as last week. But defence were great again and again restricted them to very few clear cut chances.
Please please please can we get promoted before the Carlisle game. I'm away that weekend in Germany on a Stag and I don't want to have to find myself some flights back from Berlin to Glasgow on the Saturday morning to avoid missing a promotion party
the tackle from where i was looked a 2 footed scissor tackle, I look forward to seeing it later, but boy didn't that red come out sharpish!!
Our back four were amazing today...the centre backs's won everything and i dont think there is a pair of better full back so in this league! even won with Hamer having the worst game of his cafc career so far!
The midfield has so many options, SCP has put together a versatile and deep squad capable of winning this league in a canter and of being competitive in the Championship......damn there i go again getting ahead of myself!!!
Ref was okay in the first half. Not sure why he booked Pritchard, who seemed fouled to me. Hamer deserved his booking. Not seen the replay but when Russel went in I thought he would be off. Glad Beattie was a prick! I think they and 'Uddersfield will fight for 2nd place. Their right back was excellent and the ginger Quinn also played well. I liked the way they passed the ball around. Nice little cameo by Danny Haynes. Great celebration by SCP at the end.
Another hard-fought and tense victory. The result confirms to me that this is our year!
I thought the first half, quality-wise, was much better than the second. The red card incident was a joke. All the ref had to do was book Russell (well, if it was a foul, which I disagree on) and calm the situation down, as there were a number of tackles flying in. Instead he creates a situation he could have avoided - a 22-man bawl. It wasn't great, but I'm glad Beattie got sent off. We'd have struggled with 10 v 11.
Another resilient performance, 7 points clear with a game in hand. Doesn't get much better at this stage of the season!
The bit at the end between the crowd and SCP was special. Both the fans and Powell loved every second of it! Absolutely brilliant. I love this man, he IS our club.
There is no law saying a two footed tackle is a sending off offence. If the ref 'thinks' ANY tackle has the potential to cause harm then he can send them off. Stoopid.
First of all, thought we played ok and possibly a little lucky. Saying that we defended well and were solid. Hamer was poor and Pritchard didn't have a great game. Great free kick and massive 3 points!
From seeing Moggy's photo, it is quite apparent that Russell's challenge was a one footed tackle which first cleanly won the ball; Russell's other foot appears on the ground.
I would guess Russell's momentum brought the opponent to the ground after the ball was played. That is part of the game and happens all the time.
Not a great game. Thought Utd were a decent team and we weren't at our best but were still good enough. JJ's free kick was even better than last weeks. Thought Russels sending off looked harsh. Onwards and upwards winning ugly is still a win.
Great win, tbh Sheff Utd were probably slightly the better side overall but who cares. They'll be up there with Hudds to challenge us to the end.
Same as last week, we didn't play anywhere near as effective as we can do but it's a top of the table clash your not likely to see free flowing football when neither team want to lose. Thought Russell was a bit unlucky with the tackle but can see why the ref gave it though, finding out Beattie strangled Kerms I don't know what he was thinking he's old and experienced enough to do better than that and cost Sheff Utd in the final few minutes.
Kerms was everywhere again he was knacked at the end as everytime the ball is up in the air he's on the end of it challenging.
7 clear with a game in hand we're in dream land said after the Oldham game the next 5 league games were crucial and we've only lost 1 when we had 10 men vs Orient. Long way to go though so we've got to keep going.
Heard Danny Wilson's "moan" before coming on here.........I think I must have been at a diffferent game, By his account we should have lost by 2 or 3 as our goal came from a dodgy free-kick that came from a disputed throw-in, their "goal" should have been allowed, Kermy should have seen red, they bossed the game...... blah blah blah !!
All I can say that if we had played better, they would have lost by more than a single goal. We can't always play like Barcalona and can't always win by 3 or 4 goals - some games you just have to get ahead of your opponants and then hold onto the lead. I didn't feel under the cosh as much as last week and although Sheff U had a lot of the ball in the second half they didn't do a lot with it. Thought their best player was the no.3 and glad when he went off. MOTM was Wiggy.
As for disputed throw-ins and dodgy free-kicks.............there are probably half a dozen of both every single game that is played every week and sometimes they go your way & sometimes they don't. We just happened to make the most of it this time - which cancels out the dodgy one Fulham got about 6 years ago at the Valley in the last minute that lead to their equaliser that probably sent us down !!!
So, no complaints from me today. I think we are half way to promotion and if we can get 13/14 points clear of 3rd place by the end of Feb then we are up. This team is one of the best I've ever seen and lead by one of the best managers going. Week in & week out opposition mangagers bleat about how they were beaten by an inferior team, that they didn't have any luck, or things went our way.........and Powell just keeps quiet and lets the team do the talking.
Just like to add and agree with others blade's support was top notch. Very noisy and good variety of unique songs. Always liked their version of Annie's song.
We still have our seven point cushion from 3rd after taking maximum points from two of the top five. An excellent couple of weeks work.

In essence we stuck to our task well against a physically bigger side who pushed us all the way. The back 4 was magnificent as at times, especially second half, we lost the midfield completely. I thought we were going to rue Green shooting straight at Simonsen when it looked easier to score early in the second half.
If I was a Sheffield United fan I think in all honesty I'd have been disappointed not to have come away with at least a point but as a Charlton fan yet another magnificent free kick from Johnnie Jackson proved to be the little bit of quality to give us a deserved win. Cometh the hour cometh the man and he has certainly stepped up in these last two matches.
Delighted with the result and wasn't SCP happy at the end!
Might give Danny Green the benefit of the doubt, he was on a yellow, it was a bouncing ball and would have been going in knee high, if he had mistimed it he would have been off.

We played all the pretty football that day, but they were resilient and clinical. Look where it's got them.

He completely bottled a 50-50. Shit his pants basically.
On the red card for Russell from where I was sitting in North Upper Block N. Great tackle.

just seen it on Goals Express and thought it was a good tackle.
