  • Rosler is a complete $$$$

Nothing like being magnanimous in defeat. Never liked his perm anyway.
  • Can't really argue with what Rosler has said - they have had the better of both games and must be wondering why we are top - the fact we scored 3 and they scored none is the answer. We were not impressive in either game other than for our resilience.
  • I think Rosler is spot on with his opening comment, "Charlton are a good side or else they would not be top — but I've noticed they've played much more direct in the last few weeks".

If you go on the Brentford forums, once again their fans say more or less 'Charlton are not all that', this has been the theme of loads of oppo fans this season. Isn't it funny that we're apparantly 'not all that' but we keep boringly churning out the results? Brentford had 180 minuted to have a go at us in the league, they couldn't score, and we did the double over them.

I suppose we're 'not all that' but luckily get the results, but our opponents are fantastic, but their failings are rubbish ref's, moments of bad luck, not having a decent keeper/defence/midfield/or finisher to top off their otherwise brilliant side. Got help poor old us when all these other teams finally get their acts together, their cream will rise to the top I suppose, while we fade away to the mid-table level we really deserve!

  • Chatter here please after a good win to settle the nerves and bring in the new year.

We are in a great position. Need to keep things going at Wednesday. Take as much support as possible. No excuses for not going
  • Our two defeats this season have both come from deflected goals nothing to worry about

Rosler is correct that we have gone more direct the last few weeks, as a result BWP hasn't been playing as well either.
  • great win against one of our 'bogey' sides. Wish I'd been there. WE GOTTA KEEP OFF THE TELLY ... our players seem to react to the box like vampires to mirrors and garlic.

    this
  • Don't forget we had a Kermogant header just wide with the keeper beaten, and another off the post. Also a header that just went wide, a header from Cort that he should have scored from, the one on one with Leon Clarke, BWP taking it past the keeper but being a touch too wide to capitalise and that is from the top of my head- I probably missed a few. Now think about any meaningful Brentford chances and you will know all you need to know about the game!
  • Jacko was superb, and Solly is the one to beat for POTY.

I genuinely don't think we are 'all that' though, but we seem to have a good ratio of scoring goals / chances, and are relatively tight at the back. We aren't dominating teams and games like most top of the league sides do, but we still keep churning out decent results.

With that in mind, i think yesterday was a HUGE WIN, probably our best of the season. Brentford are pretty organised and give everyone a decent game this season. We to me are not firing on all cylinders at the moment, so to come away with a victory and increasing our lead at the top was a huge step. If this is our little wobble period where knocks creep in, to keep gaining victories, like yesterday and at Yeovil gives so much to be positive about, because i still think we are eyt to have our best spell of the season.

Get your point. Mind you, at Yeovil after Yanns free kick we were unplayable from Yeovils perspective, and there have been other occasions when we have had spells of brilliance. We may indeed no be great all the time, but I would say we have has stretches of time when we have been superb. Maybe being described as good is about consistency and dominating all matches throughout.

The results shout very loudly against the achievements of others in our league.

  • We have played 24 games this season and got 30 yellow cards. However when you realise that 5 of these cards (one sixth)came from the two matches that Mr G Scott refereed you have to question his decision making. He has  however issued 95 yellow cards and 7 reds this season to date and it may possibly come to mind that he doesn't control games very well. He isn't the worst referee we have seen this season by a long chalk but  having refereed two of our matches I wouldn't want him for a third.

If you look at all the top sides in the leagues, Man City's unassailable lead has been cut to 0 points, Southampton's huge lead is similarly now 0 points and Crawley are only 1 point clear despite running away with their league. I'd be happy to not be completely controlling teams like City apparently do and keep our points gap, Rosler be damned

    A win of champions.

We defended superbly despite the ref giving Brentford every opportunity to equlise. Then we wrapped it up by hitting them on the break.

Overall a good performance all round that deserved a win.

  • We were dominating teams a few months back with games vs Carlisle/Hartlepool and Preston. As the season goes on games get harder, other teams gel, teams realise how to stop you and also develop the way they like to play to get results, add in pitches and weather getting worse you have to grind wins out. Not all about fancy football but yesterday proved we could mix it with one of the tougher teams in the division and beat them at their own game

    Exactly This.
  • don't think United were particularly convincing last season but won the title and are certainly not convincing this season but may still win it. It's results that count. Prior to yesterday Brentford had lost just ONE away game and conceded just EIGHT goals away from home. Our result tells you all you need to know.

Even the top teams don't dominate every game - just look at some of the results Norwich ground out when they were promoted - also a sign of a top team is that they can still get a result when not playing at their best - somethimes this is due to players having an off game sometimes because the opponents stop you playing.  After being unable to get the ball on the floor in the first half (due in part to Brentford's tactics) I thought we played very well at the start off the second half and put Brentford under a lot of pressure - despite being only 1-0 up I was not at all anxious going into the last few minutes
  • Look at Norwich when they came to the Valley that season, got battered, won the game with about their only chance, and got promoted.

The Norwich keeper had a blinder that day Forster wasn't it now with Celtic and yesterday I was very anxious going into those last few minutes especially with the free kicks on the edge of the box! Another hard fought valuable 3 points though onwards and upwards.
  • If Clarke had scored after playing what I seem to remember as a nice 1-2, people would be much less disappointed with him. Yes he made a clumsy challenge and didn't look sharp as a knife but I can definitely see him scoring a few goals for us, who knows, a couple of them could be match winners.

Happy with the result and *touch wood* we seem by far the most consistent team in this league.

BWP to score a few in the Sheffield games...
  • The fact is that Clarke was star struck by the crowd and the occasion ; give him time to settle. BWP is still quality and if we give him poachable supply he will come good.

With AFKA on this one.  Before Green's goal, Brentford had 2 free kicks on the edge of the area and should've converted at least 1 of them.  They also missed from 6 yards out.  Charlton could easily have lost the game.  If the Hamer sending off on Sat was harsh, then the luck was with Charlton yesterday. It's difficult to watch a side at home seemingly so willing to let the opposition dictate play for large chunks of the game, but who cares, if they keep winning!  Hope they continue to against the arguably better quality strikers of Sheff U/W.
  • Thought we were a tad lucky to come away with all three points. We conceded posession a lot but Brentford just couldn't find a cutting edge.

A big plus for me was Pritchard who worked really hard and shows a lot of awareness of what's going on around him. Not sure how well he will work in a midfield with Hollands. He strikes me as instinctively an attacking midfielder rather than a water carrier. Kermo had another great game as did Morro.

Disappointed by Cort as I was at the FA Cup game against Carlisle. Seems lumbering and slow. Not sure what he brings to the party that Taylor doesn't (albeit I thought Taylor had a poor game at Orient). Clarke was disappointing but too early to judge him.

  • Any video highlights up anywhere yet?
  • How many goals are scored from free kicks at this level - one in two is an unlikely ratio.

Stupidly drunk "fan" took exception to some of their stupidly drunk "fans" at the train station but decided I was a safer bet to threaten.  When I pointed out that I was an Addick he decided I was his best mate.  He then did exactly the same thing to another Charlton supporter (elderly, on their own).  What a twa........first time I've had ANY trouble at the Valley, and from one of our own.  "You're in south east London now!  Do you think I'm f***n joking?" I told him he had the wrong man.  What an embarassment.
  • From The Sun report :-

"On 31 minutes keeper Richard Lee allowed Morrison all the space he needed to net from Danny Hollands' cross.

Green clinched victory in the 89th minute as Brentford's defence froze when Johnnie Jackson's header hit the post."

As you would expect he wasn't watching. I know the paper is crap, but why employ journos to watch games, that clearly do not & in the case of Sun/Mirror never have done in my lifetime.
