Slightly off topic but there is a connection. Anyone see the abuse Bellamy got when taking corners for Liverpool at Goodison on Saturday? Not only were loads of Everton fans screaming all sorts at him and gesturing but plent of bottles also thrown. Ok they were plastic (without lids I'm sure!) but why do these idiots do this? I wonder if they later watched themselves on MOTD and saw what complete morons they looked?
Bellamy handled the whole thing very well, he just laughed at them, which probably wound them up even more!
I said there are enough rules. Swearing in public is an offence in its own right.
are we going back to the idea of a song book ? maybe we should all vote on what songs are "OK" ? but then who would vote ? maybe only the people of total unblemished character ? how many votes would be needed to get a song passed by the Committee of The Chosen Word ?
Some songs ate just crap some are offensive to some ----------dont sing em then ----easy.
Well apart from the chants getting a bit excessive our support was magnificent. As far as I know, Tranmere don't have any rapists so you don't need to worry about that 8-)
However I can guarantee this thread will be dragged up again after Sheff United at home when it WILL be sung again.
Horses for corses if it bothers you chirp up to those saying it, if it amuses you keep doing it if it is illegal you will get caught and banned dont moan
We won 2 nil to a rival for the league away focus on that

Spot on.
If you wanna sing it sing it, if you don't, then don't. Is debating it on here gonna change it? No chance. Just going round in circles here.

Even if he is found innocent? If that is true it would go to show how simple some fans are

No, totally disagree.
Just saying don't sing it if you don't like it isn't enough. When "wheels on the bus" was first being sung by a few it got drowned out by others who had enough brains to realise that singing about someone dying wasn't just "banter".
If a few people start singing racist chants aimed at Chris Powell is that OK? just their view and free speech and all that. If you don't join in then it's all OK. Like F*** is it.
yes, those are extreme examples. Most of stupid songs sung can be ignored but not all.
What's really sad is that the "no, no, no" song was sung more than the names of just about every player bar BWP. But then you don't get a giggle from your mates for singing about Matty Taylor but a little rape ditty is a laugh and gets you attention. As I said sad but most of them will grow out of it.
Have it from someone at the MK Dons game that Morrison was getting racist abuse.
Is that just banter?
As for calling people out, my group did. Had no effect at all.
As I've said previously the Ched Evans chants were pointless. I was willing him to react so we could shout down the muppets who would have melted down if he did.
Like I said, I don't think a debate on here is going to stop it. So this thread has just been a waste really, just fans having a pop at our own again.
That's a cop out.
Are you saying that because you support the same team as other people they aren't allowed to criticise you or any other fan?
Funny cos a lot of "singers" are quite happy to have a pop at any fan who doesn't fit into their profile of what a real fan is ie "blanket and flask/sit down/old" when it suits them.
I'm not saying you can't criticise your own fans, I just find it suprising the amount of people that jump straight on here and do just that after such quality win/day. Doesn't achieve anything, as someone said earlier, the chant will be heard at home to them regardless of what is said on here.
I respect all Charlton fans no matter how you act home or away.
BR7 Addick, should we just not talk about topics you don't like? We get that you don't think this thread achieves anything but you interjecting with that over and again just breaks up the debate. In fact, it's a bit daft that you seem to think it's fine to chant whatever you want at a football match but then criticise people for debating what they want on a forum wouldn't you say?
"I respect all Charlton fans no matter how you act home or away."
Someones got some fucked up moral compass.
agree.
agreed, he's someone who thought tweeting about attacking the gay community before the game at Brighton last season was ok
Tweeted bout that to my mate, clearly a joke as I've never been involved in anything like that. Think you all need to chill out a little, obviously not allowed an opinion on here abuot chanting.
You can have an opinion about chanting, that's what the thread is all about. Don't hide behind another cliche of "I can't have an opinion" because someone is showing you up.
Its just that in a debate people are going to disagree with your opinions.
and statements like "I'm going queer bashing in Brighton". Shocking I know but not everyone finds that "joke" very funny.
If he 'tweets' something to a mate, Then what has that got anyone to do on here.
And people who were at Sheffield Utd and didn't like the songs then why not drown it out or do something about it.
Personally, I thought there was nothing wrong with the songs.
As Rothko said he put a public tag on the tweet. And even if he hadn't is talking about going "queer bashing" OK then?
As for the songs I was there and couldn't hear the words from where I was but which songs were OK. The Paedophilia songs that people have mentioned. Was that OK.
Cause he then adds a hashtag that everyone on twitter saw. Don't want your tweets read, don't make em public, or you get caught out being a thick homophobe

But surely peoples Twitter activity dosn't need to be brought up on here.
Not saying there wasn't, But didn't hear any Paedophillia chants myself and I was quite close to the Vocal section.
Fair enough, I didn't hear it either and all I could make out was "no, no, no". Then again I was watching the idiot Sheff U fan who was "giving it" all game while sitting next to his very unimpressed wife"
On the twitter as I understand it if you put a #cafc tag it goes to thousands of other CAFC fans on twitter and the tweeter knows that when they do it. So not a "overheard" tweet to a mate but a public announcement. Regardless it's stupid, ignorant thing to send.

"On the twitter"? Oh dear Henry, that makes you sound like a high court judge. :-) Fair point though.
