Why is it necessary to be very offensive when passionately supporting your team? A few years ago some fans thought it was "banter" to make offensive racist chants at black players. Happily it has been pretty much eradicated from the domestic game and is only encountered these days in international games against certain eastern European countries. Nobody is suggesting that noise and intensity be kept away from support, just what they sing and how they express it. See the Arsenal Fans thread about "banter" aimed at Adebayor.
Just pointless. 9/10 it fires the player up and they score. When it happens and the player gives it some back we then have to watch all the muppets who have dished it out taking umbridge.
If the kiddies had given half as much effort to singing songs for our players it would have been impressive.

Sadly its an age thing. If everyone who said right added their age, I doubt you get hardly any above 23. For those that say wrong, I doubt you would get many below 24.
And seeing as quite a few of us on here are 27, I'm pretty sure I know what the consensus would be
Don't agree with the racist abuse at our games but the "She Said No" songs yesterday were very vocal and could of put him off because for such a good forward he didn't do much yesterday. They didn't have quite the same effect at on the Tube last night though at 9.30pm.
Someone said about Paedo songs, Didn't hear that myself but presume aimed at Evans ?

I seem to remember a thread 3 years back on the same subject when you were 24 that rather backs up your point.......:-)
I know its not the same, but Lee Hughes was slaughtered at the valley last season and he had an absolute stinker of a game. Missed loads of sitters and a penalty.
Some will same wrong, others say right. Does it put the player at a mental disadvantage, who knows? It will work against you more than it does for you i reckon.
If Ched, Adebayor..etc etc were one of our players and the opposite fans sang the sort of thing i'm reading at the moment...then i'm sure we wouldn't consider it as 'banter'.....Leon Clarke chants which were 'Paulo Di Canio' is what people class as 'banter'....not something irrelvant to football.

Some people are forgetting that there was some truth in the chants and that the case is actually ongoing so if he was found guilty, Would you still call it offensive ?

How on earth is somebody charged with rape, allowed on the football field. The mind boggles. Human rights and all that nonsense no doubt.
Innocent until proved guilty - that's how.
In my opinion this 'banter' is mostly out of order. I say 'mostly' to allow for occasions when Joey Barton or other convicted criminals are playing (who don't get tough enough sentences in the first place).
Look at a few weeks ago with Morrison and how it fired him up to score against us. Same as Judas as Spurs, how many times has he scored against us??
A mate of mine claims that at one game away against Leicester, he was soley responsible for Robbie Savage being taken off at half time because of the name calling "Robbie Savage, more like Lilly Savage" etc making him have a stinker!!

In my opinion, I thought it was alright.

If you think he was in anyway intimidated by 100 or so kids singing songs about him you are deluded.
I seriously doubt he went home and wept. More likely went home and wiped his arse with a £50.00 note.
what happened the other year at sheff utd did halford or someone make a gesture at our fans
and as per normal everyone cried ?
But rape. Yeah funny thing to sing about.
He is remanded on unconditional bail. Why wouldnt he play?
Still pointless.
