Where do you draw the line with how bad it gets. Calling someone 'a fat bar steward' is personal. Calling defoe 'a greedy w****r' could be deemed personal. I remember when we used to play arsenal and called wenger a peedo. I personally don't think there's much wrong with any of them above
Times change, you can't change people. All CAFC fans are the same at the end of the day get over it.
No we bleeding ain't thank you very much. There's plenty I see at games that I've no wish to be associated with. What Muttley says is true. Our core fan base is different, it was different to start with and subsequently further formed by our experiences during the 80's onwards.
I'm actually proud that we are different and it depresses me when I see and hear of this sort of c##p going on, that chips away at what makes us special and not like our friends down the Old Kent Rd or a host of other clubs.
Whilst we're at it do we have to do the hand shandy bit behind the goal every...single...time an oppo striker misses a shot??? It's embarrasing frankly.
This thread wouldn't be as long as it is if people didn't quote someone and writing 'this'
I think it is almost refreshing to be having a discussion about something other than digging out the players, considering the position we're in. It's not moaning, it is called discussion.
I personally think the songs aimed at Adebyor and Evans are disgusting, but I wasn't at either game, but if I had been, I just wouldn't have joined in and got on with supporting my team by joining in with the encouraging songs about them and not the negative songs about the opposition.
That didn't come out quite how I intended. I'm clearly not advocating a warm round of applause for the oppo (unless they have done something exceptional when a polite clap migth be in order). All I'm saying is that it happens on every single occassion a striker goes close, no matter how good the attempt in the first place. No need for it, does nothing but wind the player up and hate seeing little kids doing something in the ground that their parents should be disciplining them for, not encouraging.
Maybe you can't change people - although the Valley used to be full of racist comments but isn't now - but you should always speak up for what you think is right
Will happily boo ex Palace or players that left us under a cloud til the cows come home btw. Just saying- let's have some minimum standards please.
ANY player that commits rape, or murder and is still lucky enough to play professional football should be lucky. And YES They DESERVE all the abuse they get.
Has Ched Evans committed rape? He's been accused, but he hasn't been convicted.

Very strange response. I don't think I came across as 'caring so much'.
But anyway. You are basically saying he deserves it because he has committed rape. But for all anyone knows, he hasn't.
And I guess I do care if he has or hasn't committed rape. Isn't that the point?
People in this country have had their lives destroyed after being accused of something and it getting thrown all over the papers and people instantly assuming it's true - Only for them to be found not guilty and innocent. It's a very stupid and dangerous game.
This is all becoming very silly. Nobody doubts the passion or the commitment of those who went yesterday. This is a forum, on this forum some people have complained about the nature of some of the chanting - a perfectly reasonable thing for them to do. It doesn't change the fact that we had a great win and that the vast majority who went supported the team brilliantly.
Frankly it is ridiculous to say that people shouldn't moan about offensive chanting. Those who did it know who they are. It is also almost impossible to stop it. It doesn't mean its right.

wouldnt of been charged if there wasnt enough evidence to do so.
To be honest i was at the game I did see it as abit of a laugh. Makes a change from the usual red army over and over. Looking back at it maybe the girl wouldnt see it as one aswell but i dont regret the she said no song. However there were some songs that some sang that crossed the line.
Witty chants can be fun, and close to the bone if needs be. Footballers have thick skins, it's partly what they're paid for. But..
Chanting about rape, death, murder etc. is a sad state of affairs, and not a single post on here has a decent argument against that. Just the usual "It's football, so deal with it," angle.
Chanting about a guy who hasn't been proven to have done anything is a little lazy - and in any other walk of life, could get you into a spot of legal bother. But football seems to make it ok...
"another pop at our supporters" was the silliest comment on this thread for a variety of reasons.
Being corporate and being against disgraceful chants are not necessarily linked.
The thickest Charlton fans are also the loudest.
"THIS" as replies on forums is really irritating.
There's no proof that I am aware of, that chanting at players spurs them on, or indeed, puts them off. Only the connections we make in our heads that, more thank likely, reinforce our pre-existing opinions. Lee Hughes might have had an ankle injury, lost his keys before the game, or had a row with his wife. Clinton Morrison was in the right place at the right time. The link might exist, but there's no evidence. Certainly not on here.
Confronting people at matches, who are often in a big group, is not something a fan should have to do - A forum is an excellent place to talk to other fans to discuss issues, and sometimes change the order of things.

no to be honest its not looking back at it but its happened now. Not trying to justify it but I dont know why he is playing whilst being accused and im sure he gets it most games. and compared to the arsenal chant its nothing.
Don't regret singing the song, people are always going to agree and disagree in my view this is football I fully expect other teams fans will do the same.

Cheers, thanks for the honesty.

Fair enough but as you say people disagree.
Not sure why other teams doing it makes it more or less OK. If anything it just shows that it was IMO not just unfunny and poor taste but not even original.
There have always been these type of songs. Im old enough to remember Bristol City (or Rovers) singing to Cardiff about Abervan (sic) and thats has to be the sickest of all songs---- ever. How many sung songs at Moan Utd about "lying on the run way". Or the Oldham guy years ago convicted of living with an under age girl -- she became his wife i think but he toped himself later.
Its where or how u draw the line ? Dont like , dont sing it.
There were people who didnt like the "Costa" song as it was swearing (FFS) so where do u stop ?
Our so called "free" society and "freedom of speach" is getting smaller and more regimented as it is.
Goonerhater - So are you saying no line should be drawn at all?
I would hate to lose all swearing - but the C word, being screamed at an opposing player by a rabid fan, is not something I enjoy witnessing (and I rather pity the angry fellow doing so). Although free peaches sounds exciting, however small the giveaway is.

Just wonder what isn't acceptable?

It's to we're top of the league, Charlton Athletic, we're top of the league.
