I would have hoped some of you would have been happy for me. Not a single text or phone call congratulating me.
I'm hurt
But leaving that aside what a great day out. really professional TEAM performance. We were told to wait until we played someone good and now we have and we're still unbeaten.
If, and it is still a big if, we go up this will be a game we look back to and say "that's when we knew we were going up"
Utd put us under pressure early on but created few clear cut chances and we had some good moves. Two corners had to be cleared off the line, during the second of which Hamer went and got nowhere near, just totally misjudged it. Just as well he looks quite slim cos he would have been slaughtered for that otherwise.
Hayes created our best chance pulling down a long diagonal ball from Wiggins (?) and flicking it into the path of Morrison who should have buried it. Maybe that's why he's a centre half.
We were still holding out well and getting more and more into it when the game changing incident occurred. Waggy run the ball out wastefully but fought to get it back from the throw in. He closed down one and then won the ball cleanly from Collins who went down. Never even a foul let alone a sending off. Very similar to the Everton red the same day. Utd knew they couldn't break us down and were desperate to get Waggy sent off. Even the keeper was trying to influence the ref.
Yellow card but it raised the Charlton fans and the Charlton players. We upped our game and from as soon as we scored it was over. Great sub from Powell.
Hayes had done well but Kermit is better in the air IMHO. Was told by someone at Watford gap that he's still two weeks off full fitness.
Could have had more but 2 - 0 and our first clean sheet since Robbie left is good enough.
Utd tried long balls down the middle - Taylor and Morrison ate them up all day. Utd tried long diagonal balls to get behind the full backs - Solly and Wiggins were immense. Utd tried to play it through us. - Waggy, Hollands, Hayes Stephens and Jackson stopped them.
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, oh what fun it is to see Charlton win away.

Hmm, but then you would be wrong, otherwise you would now be saying that you know we're going up. But you're not, you're qualifying with "if, and it is still a big if". Therefore this is not when we knew we were going up.

Whether we made our luck or rode it well yesterday i'm still not sure. Bit of both. As others have said, first half we were holding on at times, trying to play a break away game but not able to hold the ball up for long. It wasn't looking comfortable and on another day we could have been 2 down. They did seem to target Solly, maybe because they had watched him at MK in the week but he was well on his game yesterday. Often they doubled up on that flank and our midfield was not closing or covering that well. By half time I think we'd had just the one good chance ourselves. To survive til half time gave SCP the chance to get some composure into the side.
Of individual players, Wiggins had a stand out game for me. As against Chesterfield, he was very busy and made himself available for a pass. He had a great shot too towards the end that their keeper did well to get down to. And Jackson did well, especially for our first goal. He made a run to the near post, out-muscling his marker and drawing one or two others across.
Atmosphere brilliant, but it always is there. Even with a few hundred you can make a good noise in that end. Why some of our crowd took such pleasure in digging out Ched Evans instead of supporting the team, for such long periods, i'm not sure i can work that out. And the incest and paedophilia songs, how does a grown man actually have ideas to sing songs like that? Surprised only one or two got taken out to be honest.
Still a great day out, and one worth seeing. 20 seconds of highlights on the tv was never going to do justice. Tougher games to come yet though.
They weren't grown men Swords, they were turdy little kids. As we pointed out to them when they were singing about Benefits, now of them had paid a penny in Tax, the little shits
Unfortunately to long these days because i can look back over fifty years of supporting Charlton and one thing always sticks in my mind.
If they start the season well they normally finish it by getting promotion or just missing it. If they start the season bad they will struggle to keep in whichever division they are in at the time.
Charlton have always been a team that will keep you on the edge of your seat with last gasp winners, failing at the last hurdle or getting promotion by the skin of their teeth.(Sunderland)
This, my friends is why we support this glorious team. Its a roller coaster ride with it's unpredictable thrills, ups and downs and twists and turns.
At the moment they are playing very good football and lady luck has blessed us by putting woodwork in the way of the opposition and the odd deflection has helped.
Yesterday must be the best early season result I can remember for a very long time. We killed off a team which could be our greatest competitors. I am still buzzing. Come on you Addicks
Our fans were good, loud and abusive towards opposition players. Ched Evans didn't have a sniff and looked rattled if you ask me. So well played to everyone that had got the banter going. YES, banter, if you find this offensive you're watching the wrong sport.

Says the person who was caught on Twitter making homophobic digs at Brighton fans
It would be better if we all turned up with hot flasks of tea and leek and potato soup, and all sat down and applauded any good piece of play. Then when we scored, perhaps we could stand up and even shout something like "YES", only for important goals though. We wouldn't want any of the opposition players to be intimidated would we?
To be honest I don't think anyone there yesterday hates Ched Evans or even cares whether he did what he did or not. Its just like we say banter, and if there's a 1% chance this harmless chant puts him off his game then so be it as we're just doing our part, the man's one of the leagues best forwards, I don't think he'll lose sleep over it, well done ALL fans yesterday whether you sang or not.
Like a few others have said, one of those results that tell you we really mean business; Bramall Lane has been a Charlton graveyard for years, the only result I can remember us getting was with the heroes of 1999-2000.

I thank you. :-D
Badly worded by me but I know what I meant : - )

Why is it that whenever we take good support anywhere and win, People feel the need to dig out our own fans.
Fair play to the kids who pay to watch them away. Away travel is not exactly cheap.

So it's impossible to be a passionate supporter without being an arsehole?
This was an impressive away win yesterday, I don't want the post match comments to be sidetracked on perithery needle.
Any further replies on this stuff on this thread will be deleted.
Thanks chaps
