Was at the game today, first half looked very nervy and credit to Sheff Utd who pressured us well and stopped our passing game, second half we stepped up a gear we fought harder and had more time on the ball, in all my years supporting charlton home and away I have never seen goals celebrated more than the two today. We kept solid and saw the game out at 2v0. Player wise Morrison was an aboslute rock today nothing got past him and he was out and out mom for me, also Solly has another brilliant game. Special mention for the fans who were fantastic before during and after the game today and when Powell called a team huddle at the end of the game and VFR was sung it really made you proud to be a Charlton fan.
Just got home from Sheffiled to Sussex on the train, back in under 4 hours! Fantastic performance in the 2nd half. First half we never really got going, something that has happened a few times recently, but hopefully won't happen again. Michael Morrison was fantastic throughout the game, and without him we would've been in a lot more trouble. Rode our luck at times, but three points in the bag and a five point lead at the top.
Amazing support as well. I've never seen the place go more crazy than when the goals went in today.
We looked nervous first half and could've been 3-0 down , as it was cleared of the line twice and hit the post. However we were not thanks to some good goal line clearances and some tremendous luck. Morrison was a brick wall today and seemed to play with the attitude that nothing was going to get past him . Bradley Wright-Phillips and Kermogant look dangerous together and should defo start next Saturday. The support was great from the fans and we never seemed to stop singing , sent shivers down my spine when VFR was sung and the players were all huddled infront of us crreated a real sense of togetherness which I didn;t feel last season.
Soaked it up first half, then the classic 1-2 in the second half, and despite all the Yorkshire huffing and puffing, we did an excellent job. The type of performance that wins leagues.
Wiggins was exceptionally good, what a player he's turned into. Morrison is a rock, and Taylor is the sweeper who helps Michael out. The midfield two were excellent too, Stephens did the dirty work today, and earned the right to play.
The Kerm, well, didn't lose a single header all game, beast.
two bad thing. 15 year olds singing 'we play your benefits'. Irony of those little shites starting that song when they've never paid a penny in tax is funny, secondly, Scott Wagstaff, could have been sent off for a stupid tackle, and spent the game moaning and not putting a shift in.
Hayes and Wagstaff are on borrowed time imo. Yann and Green will replace them Weds and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them keep their places in the team afterwards.
Wagstaff was very very close to being sent off and to be honest he did himself no favours by spending most of the second half moaning at all and sundry.
Wiggins MOM closely followed by Morrison.
What impressed me was the reaction of the players at the end. Yes they were very pleased (and rightly so) but there was no hysterics. The look very focused and I wouldn't be surprised if Powell was calming everyone down in the huddle.
A performance that the likes of Norwich and Southampton have put in over the last few years and we all know what they did.
MIKEL ALONSO EXISTS! Was in the huddle at the end of the match , traveled all the way up to Sheffield to not eenbe on the bench. Shows how tight a unit Powell has put together.
What a great day. First half a bit shaky second half outstanding. Wiggins was exceptional all game. One small point Hamer needs to work on the crosses. Second half though pulled off a couple of brilliant saves.
All in all a fantastic day to be a Charlton supporter.
It's a shame Green didn't lay it off for Kermy toward the end, that would have been two consecutive games those two had combined. How did Green play in general? Also, can we see BWP and Kermy forming an effective partnership?
I tell you what, 3 points away makes a long journey all worth it. Can't really add to what others have said but I will say that it feels really good to be an Addick tonight.
Brilliant day and game, so glad we were there, contained well in the first half, were great second half and kermit (we need a song urgently) was inspirational. To top of a great visit, drove home in 3 hours
Of the 14 players used that day just Waggy and JJ played today. 15 points at this stage last season as opposed to the 27 to date.
If the results to date tell us anything it is that are now seeing a Team as opposed to a bunch of individuals.
Credit to Chris for identifying this squad, to the board for backing his judgement and the coaching staff for giving the players a track to run on and making it absolutely clear what is expected of them. Long may it continue.
First half was definite containment job. Not too dissimilar to Tuesday at MK Dons, only difference was that Sheffield are nowhere near as good a footballing team.
Second half we stepped it up and looked like the league leaders.
Yann made a massive difference when he came on. He gives us an aerial threat that nobody else does. I don't think I've seen a Charlton striker attack the ball in the air like he does since Shaun Bartlett. The only way Sheffield could stop him winning the ball in the air was by holding him down which the referee failed to spot. He's really pushing Hayes, which can only be a good thing.
Defensively we look very strong. The back four were all brilliant and it would be difficult to pick between any of them. Morrison is proving exactly why Megson is a useless manager, Wiggins is getting better with every game. Solly is effing quality and Matt Taylor is a proper defender.
Clem hit the nail on the head about Hamer being a footballer first, then a goalkeeper. He has a lot of awareness about what is happening in front of him and sweeps up everything. His distribution with his feet is terrific.
A couple of more general points:
Today we got the run of the ball, in both penalty areas - they hit the post and came close a couple of times in the first half, as well as hitting the post at the end. "Making your own luck" and getting the run of the ball is always a sign of a good side, and after what seems like years, we finally seem to be getting some.
Powell has got the club together again. Crowd (with the exception of a few songs) were fantastic, and the players and staff seem to be united. At the end, they looked really pleased without getting carried away and you could tell they appreciated our support. The huddle in front of the fans was a chance for us to show our appreciation for their efforts which I'm sure was Powell's idea.
Just got in from a great day out. First half i thought was only a matter of time before they scored but we grew into the game and then took them apart and could of been more.
A very sensible word of caution. But getting off to a flying start sure helps, and to begin October needing on last year's stats something like 61/62 pts from the remaining 35 games to guarantee automatic promotion sure gives the club a hell of an advantage - and a cushion which means we should be able to ride the inevitable rocky patch, whenever it comes.
I was looking back tonight at the comments when Slater/Jiminez arrived and the very upbeat cheer-leading words of Varney/Murray about the intentions of the new owners and how they had a detailed long-term plan. I know a lot of fans were angry because they didn't trust them and felt the outgoing manager (no win in six at Bradford, btw) was unfairly treated. But right at this moment, the takeover is looking like one of the best planned campaigns since Monty at El Alamein. From what everyone says it seems like Vetere's role has been huge, too.
Without getting carried away, it is hugely encouraging and a few more days like today and the era of Dowie and the two Ps will begin to fade like a bad dream.
Delighted by the performance. No matter how a good a team is you simply can't expect to win all your games at a canter. Away to a team recently relegated from the Championship and sitting third in the division was always going to be a tough fixture. Whilst I don't expect Sheffield United to challenge for an automatic promotion place, they are a potential play off contender. And so the first half with United on the offensive came as no surprise.
United attacked yet it did not seem likely they would score. Despite the United pressure, Charlton did not seek to change their game but patiently tried to play their way into the game. This patience was not just limited to the team but also the away section. Gradually the our passing game came to the fore. It was not a case of would Charlton score but when. And then the goal came, a glorious moment, the away end erupted.
Charlton stepped up a gear. Fabulous passing and movement. Another a goal seemed imminent and it arrived. Team and fans together. Happy days.
I'm reluctant to single out individual players for praise, as they stood together today as a team and were collectively excellent. It is inevitable that some players will be over marked by the opposition on some days, allowing other players to shine. Other players do necessary and sometimes unseen work. What can be said having watched the team, is that the team is growing together and getting better.
Kermogant seems a decent player, but this should not be seen as a shout for Hayes to be replaced as he does a great job for the team. However it is nice to have the choice.
Green came on and played well.
Defence solid again, another good game for Solly. Hamer did what was required of him. Midfield at times fantastic, albeit Wagstaff did not have his best game. BWP, what can you say, quality.
All in all, great performance by what is looking like a great team, backed great support. Proud to be a Charlton fan.
And rather than the 'right' to be in a higher division or demanding fantastic results every week, isn't that all we ever spent the last three years asking for?
3:16 before the first Adams Family lol.Had a great day out with my 5 y/o son from Scotland the boys were brilliant,we rode our luck a bit but SCP half time talk must have been good, the subs showed we have a plan B.Only one team on the park.Only two maybe negatives? Why did Waggy not try to skin the full back back inside then his stropp, and the back four were dogs doodahs, but defensively is there something wrong in front of the centre backs? Being mega pickey but what a day out,the home fans were great before and after and we had a great time!

Wise words indeed, IA and a timely reminder that there are SO many people who deserve our thanks for playing their part in rebuilding our beloved Club. Lest we forget....
Another great away day & immensely proud to be an Addick. The team is such a sound & focused unit this season - as others have said, it was impossible to pick out a single player for plaudits today. At long last, it's all for one and one for all & the pride in wearing the shirt is there for all to see. SCP is a truly inspirational leader , chosen in turn by brave & foresighted owners. We are truly blessed.
Unfortunately, the lads will have to do without my support next Saturday as a certain volcanic isle is calling me, but rest assured that those lucky red shoes will be be worn from 3pm onwards as usual . Might be a tad hot for the scarf though .....
Great second half performance. They were a physical team and looked better when it was up in the air, but when we started passing it around, they just could't live with us.
