Putting the game aside, for the first time yesterday I lost it with our own fans. I couldn't help myself. Mindless idiots (yes I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but only if they can back it up) Moaning and shouting for us to lump it forward when we was knocking it around the back and passing the ball rather than giving away posession. At one stage if I remember correctly the crowd actually started booing when we passed back to Hamer. FFS! If Barcelona were playing yesterday some fans would have been booing them off the pitch.
I've bought a season ticket for the first time in 4 years due to work commitments etc, and I can't stand the 2 blokes next to me, constantly moaning and groaning about the team, I didn't hear them say one positive about the team. When the second went in they leant across and said "2nd in the league now" Grrrr
Rant over.
it was true though, when we were 1-0 we were top, by time got the second sheff u had equalised and gone top!!!
was also finding it frustrating and slightly odd but every club has a selection of fans who quite frankly have no idea about football in the slightest
Great picture and best image of this incident I have seen. Could now certainly understand why it might well have been given but still certain that the whole of the ball did not cross line. Thems the rules
This is why we DO NOT need goal line technology. How boring would it be if every decision was correct
All about opinions
There would still be MANY incorrect decisions in games if goal line technology was brought in, so that argument doesn't really stand.
Of course the argument stands, because goal decisions are the big decisions. They are the ones that really get everyone talking. Also, I don't believe for a second that those clamouring for technology would stop at goal line decisions. Already there's people who want video replays for penalties, free kicks and bookings. Where would it end, Hawkeye to decide on throw ins? Prozone to check that that players are 10 yards back at set pieces? Dragon software to give refs a written transcript of every player's expletive utterances? We don't need any new technology in football. We've got a universal game that is the same whether you play on a park or in a big stadium and nothing should alter that. Plus, there is something marvellous about the fact that we get the odd anomaly; am I the only one who thinks that there are few things more delicious in football than getting an undeserved win off the back of a bad reffing decision? Or in thinking that there are few things to help pull a team together more than the sense of injustice when the same bad decisions go against them? Keep things as they are with all the fun of the unfair, and stop trying to sanitise our game.
Winds me up when we have professionals, managers, pundits all shouting about how much we need this goal line technology. It will ruin the game. But unfortunatly I think it's only a matter of time before some suited and booted fa office bod who hasn't played the game will bring in hawkeye etc
I thought it looked a tired performance and the fitness of the side concerns me, Stephens was blowing out of his arse after an hour.
Solly is an absolute revelation, I had my doubts but he looks like a proper full back, far more convinced by him than the fella we paid a lot of money for on the other side, think he needs a bit of one on one from the master at getting in the right positions when going forward, always seems too deep to me.
Sorry for the negativity but the keeper scares the hell out of me, whether it was in or not it was a shocking error which would have meant two mistakes for two goals in two games, and he has barely had a shot to save yet. Im actually missing Elliott.
All in all a game we would probably not have won last year so I'll take it.
I am happy with yesterday , we needed three points and got them . I was pleased we waited and calmly kept possesion against the ten men.
Dealing with the team . Hamer's distribution is miles ahead of Robbie's , he is also a good shot stopper but flaps at crosses similar faults that many on here said about Robbie . Currently I'm not sure who is the better Keeper , ask me again at Xmas.
Solly has improved game on game and yesterday he was immense , he dosn't look the weak link in defence anymore . Wiggins actually looks excellant defensively but sometimes puts a stray ball when going forward which ironically is the opposite of the reference the Bournemouth fans gave him unlike the last two seasons we have good cover in Francis , Hughes and Evina .The central partnership of Morrison and Taylor looks sound and I am pleased we have such experienced back up in Cort and Doc.
Midfield is interesting , both Jackson and Wagstaff do a lot of unnoticed work for the team and we certainly have looked .more potent going forward when Danny Green has played . I have also said I would like a different type of wide left player to offer something different to Jacko late in a game or allow the skipper to play centrally , maybe Bover or Harriott could develop over time and gives us that. That said I feel that we look a lot weaker defensively when Jacko and Waggy are not there.
Central Midfield is interesting our biggest marque signing Mikel Alonso has not played yet , hopefully he might get some game time Tuesday. Bradley Pritchard has been a revelation and Hollands and Stephens have played well so far ,albiet the latter not quite now living up to his early season form.
Up front BWP looks a Prem player , I was impressed yesterday with his industry as well as his goal . Hayes will be a marmite player some think his control is awful others point to his assists . I think he has looked better away . I hope Benson stays as cover because we will need him at some stage. Euell is also useful to have around but we maybe need a different type of striker also unless Smith comes through.
Well I completely disagree that goal line technology would ruin games. If the ball is over the line it's a goal - FACT, if the ball isn't fully over the line it isn't a goal - FACT. All the other decisions you mentioned are open to interpretation and should be left up to the officials to enforce the rules. It's naive to think that just because technology could be introduced into one area of the game, people would then want to use it for all aspects. That will never happen, otherwise there won't be any point in the sport.
Similarly, i'm in Mexico at the minute and from where I was sitting, a mere 5,500 miles away, it looked as if the ball was in contact with a white blade of grass. Cannot be certain, but I have been known to correctly read a number plate many chevrons in the distance.
Thought it was a goal, even so , if i was his manager, maximum fine from me for getting sent off in a cheap way, either stop a goal or hurt someone.cynical I know.
Solly underside of the bar, goal, it always equals out unless your Chelski/Manure!
Don't normally have a go at fellow addicks (and I genuinely don't think we are any worse than anybody) but to hear some of the tripe being spouted around me yesterday and to hear booing just because we were being patient and knocking it about unitl we managed to work an opening really started to get to me for once. I think too many people have been watching too much Premiership/Champions League and expect Div 3 players to be at the same level FFS.
Will say no more on that but utlimately really pleased with our season so far and yesterday showed us another side to the team IMO.
We never rarely go on to capitalise against 10 men and frankly I don't understand the celebrating when it happens as it just makes teams tighten right up & difficult to break down. So to see us keep our shape and keep plugging away (and playing it on the deck) until we got the breaks was very encouraging. Time was we'd have panicked if we weren't getting anywhere and started knocking it long. Yeah, a few players looked a little off the pace, but Solly was great and liking Hollands more the more I see of him. Other than the 'goal that wasn't' we never looked like conceding and had our finishing been better the scoreline would have been much more comfortable against a well organised, competitive side. If we can keep BWP fit I haven't seen anything to be worried about so far.
Special mention for the ref'. I thought he had a really good game. It seems he got the big decision spot on and I wish more of them would have the nuts to send off players spitting their dummies out like that as it's got way out of hand.
The numpty that got thrown out was on my train on the way hence not in the least surprised he ended up in trouble of some sort. Needs to take a bit more water with it..
Do you think that Hamer's distribution looked so good because we had a spare man for 70 mins?
Easy to throw to a FB when they are sitting back to deny us space to pass and can't close down.
To be fair to Hamer, he appeared to pick up a hip injury, at one point Sullivan was stripped off ready to come on, which is why Hamer struggled to throw the ball out at times.
Exeter message board is pretty split about the "goal" too which shows what a difficult decision it was. The consensus was that their player was a pratt. They also feel they would have won if he had stayed on, personally i think we would have found it easier as they came onto us more. I am confident we could have comeback from one goal down if it had been awarded.
At the start of the second half I thought Exeter set themselves as a three, four, two formation, and they intended to use offside as much as possible to negate us a bit. It is to our credit that we didn't lump it forward continually, and play into their hands.
Excellent photo and at first glance it looks over- what you have to do is study it a bit more -firstly if you are behind it it is going to look over so it explains why so many of our fans (sitting behind the ball thought it was). You really have to be in front of it to see if any of the ball is over the line in real time which explains those of us that saw it. The picture actually shows that the part of the ball contacting the ground is closer to the line than than the remaining overhanging length (I think the contacting area it is actually touching it). That's it- I'll say no more except a last well done to the lino - might be my last opportunity to say that for a while so might as well do it when deserved.
Thought Paul Tisdale came across well in his after match interview , graceful in defeat , pragmatic and sensible, a lot of other managers would have gone loopy , but he kept his cool, said he couldn't see whether the ball was over the line or not from where he was , said Exeter were rebuilding and had to lose 2-3 players every season and replace them with youngsters, also said the players weren't too happy with Nardiello having to play 70 minutes without him.
Looked at that picture at length and I think the answer is simple, an Exeter fan would say its over and a Charlton fan would say its not.
Bottom line is that it was a 50/50 call from the referee and - more than likely - because we were the home side and it happened in front of our 'end' the referee erred in our favour, at the other end with the Exeter fans going mental he might have tipped the other way.

one other thing, can we pack it in with the Ring of Fire stuff.
Its bad enough ripping off the son,gs we do let alone from the scousers.

From that photo you cannot tell if the whole ball is over the line or not. You need to be looking along the line as the Lino was.

Looking at sollys on the highlights looks over by a lot. But it was extremely quick so couldn't see properly

Very, very lucky for us.
