Two well taken goals, there could and perhaps should have been more, but three points, a clean sheet and we're joint top. No real complaints from me.
Not sure whether their first half shot crossed the line or not, anyone in a better position to tell? Anyway...it riled Nardiello enough to get himself sent off a few minutes later.
Yes, the sending off helped us of course. I like the way we apparently kept our cool, were patient and passed it around. That's the way to do it. Different than second half last Monday. A good win and I'm very happy. :-)
Can I state that from my seat in the NW Upper and in direct line with the goaline. The ball did not cross the line. I am 100% certain. Played some nice stuff at times today but it's absolutely clear that we have no impact up front from the bench. A striker coming in is absolutely essential.
This is a difficult one. for a start I am very pleased we won, got three points and kept a clean sheet. excellent.
However it turned out to be a bit of a hollow victory for reasons that are in no way our fault. The match, the play, the players performances, the match shape, was completely skewed by the events of the first half. Hamer must be a good keeper judging by the warmth he was greeted by the Exeter fans, I am yet to be convinced, and in my view his poor play allowed Exeter to 'score' in the first half. The lino, Mr Webb, probably was only 90% convinced it had crossed the line and disallowed it because he wasn't 100% sure....unlike nearly everybody around me at that end of the East stand who all felt sure it was a goal. We (the fans and the players) did not make any fuss, and the decision was the linesmans alone.
Then play continued for a good few minutes until there was an injury, and Nardiello spoke to the lino. presumably (after he had had a chance to calm down) he said 'Lino you p*ick, that was a goal you f*cking cheating c*nt'! Nothing to do with us at all, the lino told the ref, and the ref sent him off.
From then on the game weirded out for me. I have to say Exeter really stepped up in the second half, and bossed long periods of the half, I think their manager and players responded very well. On the other hand we were quite unconvincing. maybe if it had been 11 v 11 we would have been different, and better, but the game wasn't that 'real' and it is hard to say how good or bad we were.
Saying all that BWP was my MoM and Solly not far behind, but it was a hollow victory, and Exeter had problems that were not our fault.
We are top the league say we are (joint) top the league.
Not impressed I'm affraid. Exeter were edging it till the sending off.
Liam Happe on twitter says he has seen the Exeter "goal" on pro zone and it went in. Apparently Solly's did as well.
We didnt look enough of a threat going forward. Exeter were missing a number of players and we still didnt convince.
Wagstaff comes out of the side as soon as Green is fit. I think he has put one cross over in two games. Jackson is getting on my tits as well. He needs to stay wide some of the time.
Hayes got an assist but offers no goal threat. If he gets 10 goals I'll be surprised. If BWP gets injured we have a big problem.
Stephens saved himself by scoring, but overall its, back to back poor performances from him.
We need to up our game or the better sides are going to beat us comfortably.
Will give Hamer a chance, but yet to be convinced.
Didnt play too well by the high standard we have set ourselves and seemed a bit frustratingly lacklustre at times but a great win and more points on the board and that's all that matters.
To win when not playing that well is the stuff of champions (or at least promotion candidates).
Keep up the good work lads. Good support today to.
Solly has been nothing short of immense when ive seen him this term. So pleased for him as I thought he may struggle. Gutted his strike that hit the bar didnt ripple the net.
Sat in the east today. Looked to me like there goal was over the line.
Enjoyed the way we kept the ball and built with patience. We didn't always try a killer ball if we weren't sure if we could pull it off. Fine with me.
Couldn't believe some of our fans booing in the first half because a few passes went back to hamer. Winds me rights up. Some times we have to go back. 2 blokes behind me spent the whole game moaning. Telling waggy to get off the pitch if he doesnt want to play. Moaning at Powell because he had his hands in his pockets. Really does my head in. The best when Morrison was running back to our goal under pressure and the bloke behind me didn't want to see him pass back to hamer.
Loved bwp giving it to the exeter fans after he scored and giving them a wave. Wound them right up. Solly again a contender for MOM
From my view in the Upper North I have to say myself and my 3 mates were convinced it was over the line. But we'll have some go against us this season i'm sure.
Also pleasing that there player was sent off for abusive language, more players need to be sent off for being abusive and having an attitude. Although that may mean BWP being sent off a lot :-)
O-Randy-Hunt, thats Charlton fans for you mate. Not sure how long you've been following Charlton but i've been there since I was 11, so 18 years and its always been like that. I remember the premier league years and being behind two blokes slagging off Parker and saying he was no good. I like the fact that are passing is relaxed and comfortable at the back like that. We do have an element at Charlton that know absolutely nothing about football.
Solly was my MoM again, I really like the look of him
Thought we were poor and casual for large periods today which is a worrying sign but at the end of the day we got the three points and that's the bottom line. Didn't think the ball was over the line but didn't have the best view.
Appalled by some of the stuff from the crowd today in relation to jeering the ball going back to Hamer/the centre halves and Hayes. "Get it over the top"... what to BWP who doesn't move so it feeds the enormous Archibald-Henville? It honestly beggars belief, would people really rather we just lump it 70 yards for the sake of it than keep possession? They would probably be leaping off the top tier of the Camp Nou in their droves given half the chance.
Solly MOTM. Thought he was RB, RM and RW today, Wagstaff was just a smokescreen in front of him.
Thought we were poor first half, much better second half. Some good crosses went in from both Waggy (who has incredible stamina) and Wiggins and we should have got on the end of them more. However Stephens was poor as was Hayes. That's two one on ones I've seen where he's completely cocked it up. Lost possession a lot too with a poor first touch. Nice 1-2 with BWP for the first though.
I like that Hamer is throwing more than kicking, I think fans underestimate the importance of getting clean possession from free kicks.
Exeter were decent. I liked Nardeillo especially. Doubt they will be in the bottom four come May. Do they really have to sing that song about BWP's mum though? Let themselves down a bit.
Have to echo @ISawLeaburnScore and @O-Randy-Hunt 's comments. Some absolute morons in the crowd today, screaming at our players to "get it forward", when the best thing to do against 10 men is to be patient, frequently switch from side to side and gradually grind your opponents down... which we duly did.
Not our best performance, but it was enough to win. Thought Exeter's subs were superior to the players that started - Shephard and Keohane (number 14 and 22) caused us a few problems, but all the back 4 did well.
Wiggins is improving every game. Was always an outlet on the left, which is particularly pleasing as Jackson naturally tends to drift inside.
In terms of chances we were well on top in this game. Crowd deserves commendation, with a few notable exceptions eg Mr Angry in the NU - he has surely outstayed his welcome.
ljm29. I've been supporting for 18 years too but for some reason with this season being different playing the ball on the floor I thought our fans would be different. Gets on my knockers the fact these fans booing a completely new team who are unbeaten and playing decent stuff purely for keeping the ball. They've never played the game themselves before.
Agree dabos. That number 22 looked like he had something about him. Came on and looked very good and skillful on the ball.
I just wanted to see bradders score to shut the Exeter muppets up who were giving him stick. Loved his wave when he got subbed. The exeter fan who got carried out the way he did was comical
Couldn't believe the booing, still can't. Patient, possession football. A couple of players had off days but we still won. Solly was excellent, and new "fans" target Hayes was intelligent too. Oh, but he missed a one on one so he's sh*t (well according to the tw*ts behind me).
We're joint top, unbeaten, have players to come in still, and we have BWP who scores in this league for fun. Happy Days, no moaning from me!

We were patient & kept the ball pretty well.
Even up to the point the sulking baby got sent off, we had started well and were looking to pass.
Not always easy playing 10 men.
Not gonna dig anyone out...3 points.
Crowd were good noise wise today & only a peep of "Addams" in the 29th min.
Just back.

Yes it was against 10 men but Sheff Utd had the same advantage and only drew.
We're in a promotion place and still unbeaten. Solly MOTM Hollands also did well BWP and Waggy good.
39 games to go

I agree. These c****s have gotta learn.
As I've already said, it did. Press at the game have seen the pro zone videos and it went in. Solly's did as well so evens.
Two knob heads in the Exeter end were ejected and didn't go quietly.
