Stephens quality. Defence shaky. BWP took his goal very well. Green looks brilliant. Solly did well considering the barrage. Some top class saves from Robbie. Ref awful, but fair result overall.
Scunthorpe were a good side and deserved at least a point. Definitely need more options in the forward line although i'm starting to think we need a strong channel runner rather than a target manalthough ideally both. They looked much fitter than us today and we got over ran in midfield but i'm not moaning. It was much better than last year and a silver lining is that we can see a few deficiencies before the transfer window shuts. Word is there'll be 3 out and 3 in before the window closes.
The lino on East stand duty 2nd half was awful. How did he miss green getting pulled to the floor from 2 yards away?
the only foul he flagged in the entire game was a non existent one when we tried to keep it in the corner. Missing the foul on green was inept.
overall a fair result against a decent team.
on the subs, i think if we were ever going to use hughes as a holding mid it was today as stephens and hollands were outnumbered for the whole match and one of them could have been given the last 10 mins off
So pleased we can pass the ball around. Stephens reminds me of Hoddle! Thought Solly was terrific until he sloppily sent the ball to their player which ended up in our net. We actually missed several gilt edged chances today but scored two good goals. Is Taylor an improvement on Doc? Wiggins still needs time to settle in. When Hayes went off I think Waggy should have gone up front as his speed is so useful at the end of a game. Bringing on the experienced pros to help see out the game didn't work today but the idea made sense. Going home felt like a defeat but overall we have a talented team.
Thought Scunny were well worth their draw, they'll be in the play off mix this season I'm sure. I think we struggled to really stamp our authority on the game but I'm still not downhearted. We did alright and we definitely have the players to get us out of this league. Last season we would have lost that game, whereas I believe we'll win games we don't deserve to this year, so I'm not worried. I thought S-Dog was mustard and I can't believe the negativity towards Hayes, that guy is class. His touch is frightening. If he gets 12-15 goals he'll have done his job because his tireless work and hold up play is invaluable. No one was carried today, we just played another good team who had a slice of luck they deserved. Can't overly criticise.
In a strange way im happy with todays result and performance because it will show the players they cant just almost expect to turn up and expect to win it may just be the kick up the backside they need.on saying that I would have taken 10 points from 4 games and hopefully we will see a full 90 minutes fron danny green on Tuesday.Come on you reds pride of south east London!
After his brilliant performance on Tuesday, Hayes had 'old Club syndrome' today and was poor. For a big man he is rubbish in the air compared to BWP. Let's hope he's dropped for the Preston games!
Generally no where near as sharp as Tuesday, but I think that was mainly down to too much concern for a greasy surface stopping us playing our quick passing game and a well organised Scunthorpe team who deserved a point. I thought Green looked excellent when he came on and can obviously deliver a ball into those dangerous areas. Solly again impressed me with his tenacity and timing. Good to see Jase come on and again add a different attacking dimension to the side.
That's two keepers in a week who have pulled off three or four class saves to prevent us from scoring.
Strange game and didn't think any of our players were great today ut it was a decent performance and on another day we could have won the game by a few, Scunthorpes keeper kept them in the game a number of times. On Hayes he's had a good start at Charlton but i am dissapointed with his finishing in all of the games so far.

Albeit Robbie pulled off some blinders himself to prevent us conceding...
Yes Scunny looked a decent passing side today and deserved to get something from the game.Still 10 points from the first 12 is a good enough start to a campaign.
Annoying that we dropped the two points but Scunny are no mugs they played really well today. Would have prefered Green to come on with half hour to go to give him time to settle in to the games pace, The last 3 games I felt we should have made a sub earlier then we did to stop it from going a bit stale. Saying all that it's so refreshing to see us create chances for the front men. I dont think Hayes had former club syndrome as he has a very good scoring record against former clubs including goals against Scunthorpe, I was told this by a Scunthorpe fan I work with, thought he had a pretty good game in my opinion.
First game of the Season today & the 1st look at the new faces. I thought that we did alright & at both 1-0 & 2-0 didn't see us conceding. Thought Hayes should have scored in the 1st but put over the upright & again in the 2nd when their mistake put him through 1on 1. BWP should have done better just after he came back on from his knock but choose to shoot instead of laying off for Hollands(?).
Their keeper made 2 unbelievable saves 2nd half from Hayes (?). On any other day we'd have scored at least 4 whereas apart from the 1st Half lob & the shot Elliott parried for a corner we just restricted them to long range efforts which didn't seem to trouble. Back 4 were confident til they scored the 1st (which looked like pin-ball between our 2 CB's).
The tackling & distribution was a class above last season. I think we'll do good this season but good luck to Scunthorpe for their endeavour.
good work out against a decent side and a wake up call that defensively we'll struggle
solly had a blinder till the weak clearance led to their goal
both keepers done well
hayes is our new non scoring forward although he has a lot more about him than recent incumbents , i thought a couple of times he pulled out but if he can sort his finishing out he'll be decent
if powell had kept it the same and they'd have equalised we'd all be moaning why he didnt close the game out , he tried to with docherty but it failed!
18 per cent autos 80 per cent play offs 2 per cent the nightmare might continue
Hayes does a lot of good work that goes unnoticed...how long did it take for deon to get some credit? not the best finisher but never hides and always looks to bring others into the game (perhaps too hard today looking for a pass rather than a left foot one on one shot!). Works his nuts off as well. bad day at the office for a workhorse good honest pro, i'm afraid in division three we will have to deal with that. Option at CB and reinforcements for the front two from bench or to change tactics are more of a concern.
Wiggins put both crosses in for our goals and agreed, every one of Green's crosses was class - don't think we're missing the 1 in 10 crossing 'specialist' Francis somehow!Green and Wagstaff both deserve to play but i think we may lack a bit of pace attacking if Wagstaff isn't in the side, hence the need for another pacy forward option as well.
ok we dropped to points but scunny also gave us a good game today! elloit made some got saves before jacko scored and he saved again before BWPs goal! yes we should have seen it out but also scunny came down from championship so this was always going to be a tougher game than the others so far this season! good point bad point its up to you lifers! yes i was disarpointed we let in 2 goals in 16 mins! please powelly NO doc again for a striker! shuld have maybe put on hughes (can play DM) and went 4-5-1 if anythink
Thought the bwp goal was hollands cross Bexley but i stand corrected.
Pretty sure you are right, but in the heat of the moment it's easy to confuse two players. The number of times I've thought great pass/cross/through ball by X only to see on the highlights that it was another player.
My view is that in many ways the result reflects competitive sport. Scunthorpe wanted to come away from the Valley with something, and they had the wherewithal to succeed.
Thats not to say Scunthorpe were in any way negative, in my view they dominated up to about 20 mins in, but we showed immense character by working our way back into the match, by reacting to a degree of adversity, and trying to play our way out of trouble...and it worked.
We scored, and things proceeded well until half time.
Amazingly, during a pretty flat period after half time we scored again, and then Hayes was one on one, but it didn't happen, and that was the turning point...a goal then and we were home free, but they say a 2-0 lead is tricky, and that proved to be the case. a substitution, some good saves from both keepers, and a goal gave them a foothold, they reacted well to it, and got what was more or less a last minute equaliser. Not an untypical way a football match pans out. We were not pants, nor were they.
I felt that our players may have been a little tired towards the end, and their goal put our players on edge. I am not blaming anybody really, I don't see glaring mistakes, bad management, poor refereeing, or the support.
To me it was a pity, but one of those things, and Scunthorpe are the most difficult opponents we've had so far, they still retain a degree of higher league nous that showed.
I also wouldn't point to a stand out performance from us (although I thought Dale Stephens was our best player) or anybody who was dire...the trick is to learn from what happened and gain from that.

thought it was wiggins for both but maybe i'm wrong

just checked, both are right, no yellow and hollands cross
Posting this before reading the thread.
