  • Not great today, 2-0 flattered us and by our last ten minutes 2-2 may arguably have flattered us as well.

Really don't like going keep the ball in the corner with 10 minutes to go and CB on for ST 5-4-1 when you are at home and supposed to be a big fish in this division.

Still, two points dropped but not much lost and hopefully something learnt by Powell and the lads as well who stuck it in neutral and decided to just coast in at 2-0.

You would hope though that our two CBs (well 3 including Doc) could defend aerial balls into the box but alas.

Fair play to Scunthorpe for keeping on going.

Still need a CB and a ST so work to do on and off the pitch still.

    COYR.

i think a lot of people may have underestimated scunny, they did look very good coming forward, a couple of good saves from robbie but then their keeper made a fair few himself.

docherty coming on with a couple of minutes to go does us no favours and i thought their goals looked a bit soft anyway, possibly we'd switched off, but then so had the crowd .too complacent.

green looked bright though needlessly got himself booked and it could easily have been worse. thought he gave the defence a reprieve and a couple of tricky crosses.

not happy with trying to hide in the corner with a few minutes left and where did the ref get 5 extra mins from, not that they made any difference.
  • Agree with just about every word from Clem above.

Scunny were a decent looking side, and will be up there by the end of the season so not a bad point but certainly areas to work on.  Sadly I have now seen Euell twice and am amazed he is ahead of Benno on the bench.  No room for sentimentality.

  • The booing was aimed at the ref I think, not the players, definitely think we need another ST and CB, for cover cos let's be honest Euell and Doherty aren't the best of players too have coming of the bench, everytime Doherty comes on I just sense disaster
  • initial thoughts (my first game this year) are we are weak on defending set plays as I think has been said before elsewhere, improvement deffo required to make promotion, also not too impressed with subs as mentioned above and doherty tactic, pls Mr P learn from this - it invites pressure a midfielder seems to me to be a better option
  • We still need a fast striker to come on the last 20 mins and put the match to bed.Why did the ref book green?.
  • i thought the booing was aimed at the ref? all the players got clapped off by those left in the ground and then there was a massive boo as the ref and his cronies got to the tunnel....then the clapping continued
Yep it was the ref the booing was aimed for .. i think?
  • Would've brought Euell on for Hayes a bit earlier, Hughes instead of Docherty.  We sat way too deep a number of times just inviting pressure but credit to Scunthorpe they definitely deserved a point. Thought Eliott and Solly had very good games. Can't win 'em all.

  • Hayes was sloppy, Wiggins wasnt that assuring
    Elliot and Solly did well.

    Ref was terrible.

    Never rated Euell.

Defended well to deep latter stages.

Apart form that we was ok. Least we aint Orient.
  • we were really poor second half, thought solly was man of match by a mile, hollands was class again.

  • Green must start he showed in his short cameo appearance his great crossing ability. I also agree we should not of taken both strikers off, it is ok when 3 up but at 2 - 1 it is just inviting pressure. Good game though a draw probably a fair result
  • Had this one down as a draw before today (predicted 1-1) and thought it was probably a fair result. At times it looked like we were just going through the motions. Maybe this will serve as a lesson to them that a game's not won until the end.

Thought the Ref was utter cack today, and both lino's were just as clueless.
  • happy with powell's points tally so far and i thought we looked great at count. looking forward to bury next saturday. the cup is still full for me. keep it going SCP.
  • Start with Green and bring Waggy on up front last 15 minutes to run at defenders.

  • I felt downhearted after giving a two goal lead away but take encouragement that we have ten points from a possible twelve , Scunny will be there or thereabouts for the play offs IMHO.

Last week bringing Doc on worked well and BWP does tire towards the end of games .Today I did not feel this was an effective tactic to use in a home match and after the equaliser we looked like we could not come again and if anything Scunny looked the more likely.

Green V Waggy will be an interesting debate . Without doubt we missed Waggy defensively when he left the pitch I felt he works well with Solly and offered additional protection , but what superb delivery from Green . It's a shame Waggy has not got the same ability.
  • I think we need to be a little realistic.  It was a decent performance against a side who's been in the Championship for a few seasons, 8 of last season's squad started today. They were a good side, they kept possession well and had the chances to win the game.  In some respects, it could be regarded as a point gained.

It's a shame we couldn't hold onto a 2-0 lead, and we had the chances to extend it.  I think there were two small errors in the closing stages.  Perhaps the key one was bringing Doc on invited them to attack us at a point when Hayes was no longer holding onto the ball.  That said it was very late in the game and it's worked in the previous 3.  I also think that Stephens shouldn't have been looking to waste time in the corner when half the team was waiting expectantly for a Green cross into the box. Put us on the back foot and immediately preceded their goal.

Our lead was built on some excellent defending and some intelligent forward play.  I thought Scunthorpe just edged the midfield battle today though, so to have come within a few minutes of a very hard earned win should be encouraging.  We've got a lot easier tests ahead of us than today's.
  • What Suzi said
  • Taking Wagstaff off lost us two points today.
  • Hayes should have been greedier for the one on one with the keeper instead of looking for BWP.

    Two points lost.

  • we were poor today, really didn't think Hayes put 100% what with the old club connection, he was shocking.

I said it at the start of the season & I'll say it again now............we wont get out of this league by winning 2-1 or 2-0 every game but by winning 4-1 or 5-2. Goals get you out of this league - just ask Leeds, Norwich, Saints & Brighton............(and MK Dons !!!)

Im not sure where your coming from there tbh, if you win 2-1 or 2-0 every game of course you would go up and with a record total of 138 points.
  • First game of the season for me.

Much nicer atmosphere at The Valley than in recent times.

A draw was a fair result, if we'd shown the desire and guts that Scunny had against us today over the last few seasons, we might be in a better position...

SO NICE not having to watch dross like Semedo and Racon. We would've lost this about 4-1 last season.

Great start to the season overall.
  • we were poor today, really didn't think Hayes put 100% what with the old club connection, he was shocking.

Have to agree with Mike that the "old club connection" affected Hayes. But I'm afraid that Jason isn't the answer - I still need convincing that he's sharp enough for this league & would rather have another striker on the bench.

Agree with those who pointed out that Scunthorpe gave us our sternest test so far. Talked to their manager's wife & son after the match ( lovely people!) who think that we will be the team to beat this season , even though the son is a Wednesday supporter.

Would love to see us beat Reading on Tues night but next Saturday's trip to Bury has far more importance IMHO. And with the transfer window nearing an end, really hope we sign another striker soon.

    COYA !!!

  • Only two words needed when seeing that Scunthorpe had equalised in injury time: Oh, Bollocks!

I hate starting Sundays like this!

  • a bit too casual and we inevitably got sloppy. fair play to scunthorpe, they deserved their point and they fought harder than us to get it.

on the plus side we look a classy team even when not at our best. if hayes had taken just one of those good chances the game would've been over at 70 minutes.

lets hope this reminds us we have to work hard week in, week out to earn a result.
  • It was a slip up today, a big slip up, but nothing we arnt used to. You have to at least 'fuck it up' at one point in the season and I think we will react well and put it behind us. Im not too downhearted but its 2 points drop and in such a sloppy manner, we should have seen out the game or got a 3rd comfortably. 42 games left though and we can learn from the last one in a positive way.

The lino on East stand duty 2nd half was awful. How did he miss  green getting pulled to the floor from 2 yards away?
  • Predicted a draw before the game so not too upset but after a 2-0 lead is disappointing. Didn't think we played too bad but got complacent and I could tell the Scunthorpe goals were coming. Hopefully we will learn from it and it will be good for Powell to change to the team in the next match we cant play with the same team every match and expect the same results.

Thought Elliot was brill one save in particular. Hayes was crap. Ref was a b*stard.

  • Did ok today. Thought we should have killed them off long before they got back into it and thought today showed we still need another striker and cb but CP knows that and I'm sure it will be rectified. I think complacency played its part today and this may actually be a good thing for getting us into a mindset of not being happy with a two goal lead. Hope the booing was for the ref but not as convinced as some that all of it was. This week I'd like to see Robbie leave for a decent fee, to be invested in a pacey cb and someone like Schlupp on loan. Saturday will be a tough test and could tell us a bit more about our current team.
  • Where did the 5 mins extra time come from ?
End of the day fair result, just wasn't on our game today, sure CP will sort it out.
