  • Have to say, it was quite funny seeing Murdoch being hounded by a newspack in the US on my telly this evening. I bet he didn't like that much.
  • I forget why I boycotted this rag 3 or 4 years ago but it was football related. Closure is merely a financial decision based on advertisers pulling out. Excellent off the cuff trashing by Gorgeous George on Talksport.

Any football fan should appreciate the incidious nature of Murdoch's empire and watchdogs should be vetoing any expansion of his media empire in UK where he is not a National.
  • Reports say Coulson will be arrested tomorrow.

    The first arrest of many...

Like most who break the law and get caught..........They'll go down screaming and drag anyone and everyone down with them........................This should be fun

Yeah and let's arrest a few bloody policemen too!

FFS!! why can no one else but me see that it is the police who are at fault!

They took the money AND!!!!!! FFS THEY GAVE THE NOTW THE NUMBERS!!!!!

    WAKE UP GB!!!

I think you might need some proper evidence for your claims, even if they are in capital letters.

As for the shut down, its clearly because Murdoch's son is only two arrests up the command chain.
  • The last five elections at least have been decided by the Murdoch press.Thatcher, Major,  Blair, Brown and Cameron owe their careers to 'the Sun' .. It woz the sun wot won it .....

Coulson was installed alongside Cameron to co-ordinate the News International agenda along with that of the Tories. All this has been common knowledge for years. The  N O W and News International thought themselves inviolate, they now know that they are not.

Rupert Murdoch is the classic example of life imitating art, Citizen Kane come to life.

Tuck it in for God's sake. We get it, you don't like the gavvers.

Many on here obviously do not Leroy!

I support the POLICE 100% when they are doing their job properly.

However, any Copper that corrupts themself is FILTH!

I was watching Sky news this morning and funnily enough for them David Mellor was laying into the police's actions constantly.
  • Ah, David Mellor, that paragon of virtue.

    Good looking fella too.
  • Stop... im visualising his Chelsea top!!

He did mention him being done by the NoTW.
  • The only problem is who will be out there bringing the real villains to book? .. the drug dealers, paedophiles, people smugglers, slum landlords, con artists and dodgy royals. Let's hope that any legislation or 'guidance' does not create a press which is totally toothless
  • Whilst being "pleased" that the NOTW is shutting, Ian Collins made a good point last night.
The people Really affected by this is the staff who are at the paper now: Most (if not all) involved in the phone-hacking "scandal" have moved on over the last few years....surely its them (& any policeman/woman who were involved) who should be "Suffering" ?

  • Murdoch has simply done what he always does - whatever the fuck he wants!

He was running two newspaper offices when one could easily have done the job. This has simply given him the chance to shut down one office and get the other one working on Sundays.
  • The last five elections at least have been decided by the Murdoch press.Thatcher, Major,  Blair, Brown and Cameron owe their careers to 'the Sun' .. It woz the sun wot won it .....

I don't think Gordon Brown would agree!

agreed, his career as chancellor NOT as PM
  • He switched his support to Labour before the 1997 election when it was obvious they would win. He didn't win the election for Labour in 1997, 2001 or 2005 or for Thatcher in 1983 or 1987 these were easy wins in each case.

    Typical dirty digger,!

He  is well ahead of the game!

Knowing him he probably wanted to close the thing anyway, and will have some tax scam in mind.

news  corp setting the agenda is wholly ridiculous. As well as the police investigating themselves.

Brooks and Coulson should be arrested for conspiracy to bribe  a police officer, for starters!

The board released a new management plan for consultation two weeks ago, it included a plan to make the Sun a seven-day operation.

Thus BeKah is able to state with confidence that they will help affected staff to find other work within the corporation.

  • Guardian (without whom it is unlikely this would ever have come to light) are reporting that an NI executive has deleted millions of emails from their archive.

  • Well the gloves are coming off ------ first on TV they ask Red Ed why he didnt say anything to Murdock  2 weeks ago when attending the NI posh bash ? Red ED declined to comment. Then on another channel they show that Rebkah tarts "mates" except they only showed  ED (talks) Balls and "call me Tony" Blair.
  • getting back to notw, absolute scum.

Both parties are scared of Murdoch and have been for a long time, he is not afraid to call in favours and make his influence felt. You also have to look at the role of the police here - they've sat on this evidence for five years and done nothing with it, why is that? And that was despite many senior police officers being among those who were hacked.

One hope I have is that with Murdoch being taken down a peg or two our politicians and institutions like the police - both of whom are there to serve us might be a bit more objective.

  • Conspiracy theories: Rebekka Brooks is married to Charlie Brooks, ex race horse trainer who has also been married to John Francomes's ex Mrs.

Like Cameron, Osborne and dodgy Boris Johnson, Brooks is an old Etonian

  • I see that Sky News have somehow managed to gain some "exclusive" audio of Brooks addressing staff.

Amazing journalistic scoop that isn't it? Isn't it? On, no, I guess it isn't is it. Looks more cynical by the minute.

  • Scoop of the century!!!  Sky News (owned by News International) gets hold of an audio copy of a self-serving speech made by Rebekah Brooks (chief executive of News International) and publishes selected extracts.  Amazing!!!  Next up 'Stop the Press - Ace reporter provers that bears defecate in woods'.

Interesting to see that the story is now moving on to corrupt payments to police.  Now how many papers have never done that I wonder???
  • Really interested in seeing the last NoTW but can't bear to buy it, so if I don't post here tomorrow it is 'cause I am being questioned by the policefor shop lifting.
  • We take the piss here, but it is a very, very serious matter indeed. The Murdoch press are in such a position of dominance that they can completely overtly and obviously manipulate situations like this for their own ends and no-one can do a thing about it. It needs stopping, and quick. If that little c*** is allowed to buy his own satellite broadcasting channel he'll be the most powerful man in the country. Most people are too thick or uninterested to understand the ramifications of all this.
  • Predictions:
    1. Rebekah Brooks has already been told that she has to 'resign'
    2. This will be a bargaining chip in the BSKYB purchase, 'the sacrificial lamb'
    3. The BSKYB purchase will go ahead in about a year
    4. Murdoch will start Sun on Sunday within a year
    5. Only one policeman will be found guilty of corruption - low level plod
    6. The Royal Family will become involved as the hacking records are exposed
    7. No legislation will be made to stop 'hacking' effectively
    8. Evidence of how reporters and PI's interfered in serious police cases will be found
    9. The transcripts of the hacking will show that what the NOTW didn't publish is far more shocking than what they did publish
    10. The NOTW hacks and PI's will claim 'privacy' for them and their families from the investigations
  • I do not condone the phone hacking that certain employees of the NOTW used, however this paper has uncovered many important stories over the years - the pakistan cricekt team (or certain members of it) betting scandal last summer for example

Leroy, it's not that often I agree with you but that post is absolutely 100% spot on the money.
