I hope they dig out the exact taxes he pays to the British Government and use them to fund a new WW memorial outside his house and drape them in the Union flag - a daily reminder for the prick.
Perhaps the daily reminder already comes in knowing the families of 6 innocent individuals killed by the army on Bloody Sunday.
There have been atrocities on all sides with regard to the north of Ireland.
He eloquently expressed respect for those who were killed in the World Wars (WW as you say), including a huge number of Irish from both sides of the border.
Other than that, I think @ThreadKiller has summed it up as eloquently as needed.
Innocent victims - yes the Irish Republican Army know all about them.
Fuck him.
Edit - I seem to remember a few Irish flags flying at The Valley during Kinsella's days, and beyond. Did that cause any grief ? Nothing I remember. Yet this nause won't look at the British flag.
As I had already said...ALL sides!
If you are going to talk about grief given out, there's been plenty of it on away trips over the years although thankfully it seems to have died out a lot more recently.
Reread the post. Thats as specific as I'm going to get because I'm not interested in those boring tit for tat 1 to 1 insult sessions that pass for discussion on this forum.
He is clearly a politically aware young man and I respect him for that. I love my country but I would never force others to and as long as he makes his point in a peaceful way that's fair enough in my books. I would be interested to hear an interview with him as why does he choose to pursue his career in England/Britain as I think this is a valid question though. But at the end of the day it is up to him.
FWIW I think this latest act by McLean is over the top, I understand his reasons for not wearing the poppy but it's not exactly a big ask for him to stand there during a 60 second anthem and face the same way as his team mates.
He's not being asked to give Camilla Parker Bowles a rim job FFS.
That being said I can also see why he would not want to identify with a country where some people are so wilfully and maliciously ignorant on what is such a sensitive historical issue.
McLean and most of the Nationalist community don't see themselves as British, they consider themselves Irish - and as the Good Friday Agreement declares - are within their rights to do so.
The British community in the north must be afforded exactly the same respect with regard to being UK citizens, no lasting peace can be achieved whilst one group tries to force a foreign identity on the other, it simply will not work.
The same thing applies to the Armenians in Turkey, the Palestinians in Israel and so on and having been to both places I would not want to tell either of them that they only "self identify" as Armenians or Palestinians.
Agree with this 100%.
I think his behaviour was childish, disrespectful and bad mannered. He deserves all the abuse he is getting on social media and the abuse he will get at matches during the early part of next season.
But, I am always absolutely stunned by the sheer ignorance, sectarianism, fake outrage and blinkered views we get from the usual Rangers/Loyalist faction on here whenever an incident like this flares up.

If he makes a statement like he has done, he's gonna get pelters. Nothing fake about my outrage, I'm furious Grrr
I may have dreamed it, but I have a feeling I have heard England fans booing and whistling and such like, when other national anthems have been played before football matches.
Organiser will know better than us, but I'm pretty sure England fans are the most respectful when it comes to stuff like that.
In all the games I've been to abroad I've only heard us boo Scotland, Wales and Germany and all were in response to GSTQ being booed first. Also Croatia in 06 after they taunted us with an IRA tricolour.
I think there is a big difference between crowd behaviour and that of an individual though, as most of us would not shout/sing at a lone oposition fan in the street like we do as part of a crowd. Most booing of national anthems is pantomime stuff.
Seeing Mcleans actions pissed me off, simply because I'm a proud Englishman and brit so seeing someone disrespect an important part of our history and identity infuriates me. I belt out GSTQ at England games and although it might be a naff anthem (relative to other nations) it's our anthem and that's all that matters to me and even people on here harmlessley slagging it riles me, so what that prick did certinally pissed me off.
But as we know its a big 'attention thing' with him as if he cared that much he would not live/work here and fund HMRC.
And I presume he would be comfortable with and totally understand a Brit player doing the same to the Irish anthem for the exact same reasons as himself.

All he had to do was stand there and be quiet. He wasn't being asked to sing, put his arms around his teammates or puff out his chest and thump his heart. Just stand there.
He has seen a unionist player do the same thing to the Irish anthem. 2008 cup final, the player in question played for Derry City and McClean was a youth there at the time.

Which is also out of order.
When I was a youth i saw a bloke punch his girlfriend in a pub. Never done it myself mind.
He's an attention seeking idiot, "oh look every one back home I'm still anti english" Happy to earn money here of course, no one is asking him to learn the anthem just a bit of courtesy perhaps, I hope he gets abused even by his own fans this season.
It's telling that many of those "offended" and "outraged" about this are the first to shout down others about "PC nonsense" "being offended on other people's behalf" "mock outrage" etc etc.
So it OK for you if it's something that you care about or relate to but not for anyone or anything you don't.
For the record I think McLean was and is wrong, it is disrespectful and uncalled for but he has that freedom in this country and thank gawd for that.

Judging by the comments on a West Brom pal if mines Facebook, he's gonna be getting laughtered. There was Irish catholics (obe from the same area as McLean) even commenting saying people like him do nothing to help. Out of 80 odd comments, there was one saying McLean was right and he was celtic so no surprise there.

That all goes without saying Henners, but why can't we still air our disgust at people like McLean and the geezer in the flag? I mean, we ain't chopping no ones heads off in the process are we
