james mcclean was born 17 years after bloody sunday. i do understand his principles, but simply don't play in that game, turning his back on the national anthem again dont play in that game.
His parents weren't, his uncles and aunts weren't. His neighbours weren't. Its still very relevant in Derry City.
The Harrods bombing was in 1983, should anyone born after that event forgive and forget? Should those born after Martin McGuinness left the IRA have any ill will towards him? Should Liverpool fans born after Hillsborough boycott the Sun? (Forgetting that is a terrible paper regardless of your politics).
Derry is a very poor and underfunded city in the North. Many of the Derry people think this is because they are largely from a Cathloic background. A large portion of the population rightly or wrongly feel that they have been targeted by the British Government for special treatment through the history of Northern Ireland, culminating in the events of Bloody Sunday, but even after that, and in these peaceful times they feel left behind. They can't understand why Belfast gets so much funding for Stadia for all sports but the Brandywell funding took so long to come through and after work finally began why the plans were scaled back. They don't understand how there hasn't been a motorway built to Derry yet. They don't understand why Belfast and other cities get so many jobs announcements and Derry gets so few.
This is the background James has come from.
wasn't an argument just an observation, i don't particularly hate Germans or Argentinians both of which are conflicts that happened before i was born.
i just think if he is so against britain - which i think he quite clearly is dont pay tax here and ply your trade in a country where you dont have to make protests?.
As I have said he's not against Britain, he doesn't like the Establishment, Government, Royalty and Military (this is all my assumption). He coudl go back to Northern Ireland and still pay taxes to the Crown I suppose... Regardless of his beliefs he is allowed to earn a living wherever he chooses. If you find that hypocritical thats your perogative, but we are all hypocritical from time to time.
well anyone that considers martin mcguinness a hero i would call pretty anti british. the common misconception that anyone irish is pro ira/mcguinness is also a load of bollocks which is something i mentioned on the mcguiness thread.
McGuiness in my IMO was an evil man but did the Queen not shake his hand, has she not sent his family a letter of condolence. Does this make the Queen Anti British ? McGuinness is equal parts hero and villain and much more in between. It isn't black and white. He did what he thought was right in the 1970s, and he did what he thought was right in the 1990s. I disagree with much of that but I didn't grow up in his neighbourhood at the time he did so I have no idea how I would react if I was in his position, and for all the bluster here neither does anyone. It is very easy to pass judgement from our comfortable lives.
Interestingly enough, Republican forces killed fewer civillians than the Loyalist Paramilitary groups and a much lower proportion of civillians compared to their kill total. That gets forgotten I think.
The visible hate for the English from the fake paddy's in Glasgow and the Irish on Twitter is strange but quite funny to see. They have a real complex.
And yet you're always posting your hatred for anything Irish, is that not a real complex?
Am I? Show me.
Oh come on now, I'm not going trawling through your post history but any time there is a thread on here about something Irish I can be certain you'll be in it moaning.
Take out the word Irish and the same could probably be applied to you mate.
(Definitely booked my place in the Argument Alert thread now, surely).

I don't like Conor McGregor cos he's a mouthy twat. But then I say that about Robinson.
The IRA fella that died is before my time so I stayed away from that apart from a joke about paddy mcguiness.

What a nonsense argument. You could make the same statement in regards to wearing the poppy that anyone born after WW1 shouldn't wear it.

He clearly isn't "So against Britain", just because he chooses not to wear a poppy doesn't make him "So against Britain"

yes i think its disgusting the way he was acknowledged as some sort of hero, when he turned his back on his violent beliefs in a cop out.
I'm saddened that you believe acknowledging McGuinness' contribution to the peace process (for all its flaws), and recognising that, as a result, there are people alive today who would not otherwise have been, is disgusting.
If the IRA and its ilk laying down the gun and the bomb is a cop out, I'll have cop outs every day of the week.
As an aside, if you want to end a conflict like the Troubles, you actually need the nastiest bastards on each side to buy in to the process. Whatever else you may say about McGuinness, he was absolutely committed to the peace process once it was established.
What I mean is if Martin mcguinness and the ira were not cornered would they of entered peace talks and negotiations - I don't think they would equally without the uda and uvf peace would of come about a lot sooner. Granted once Martin did enter peace process lives were saved but his bombs had taken a good few away!, and the man had no choice, the ira these days are somewhat just gangsters and drug dealers a lot like the loyalist units in the north.
Unfortunately, I don't actually think that the IRA was actually cornered as such. But they had recognised (as they had not for much of the previous twenty five years) that they could not achieve a military victory - and that so called "spectaculars" in Britain would not make the difference. Talks were almost always going on in the background, according to most knowledgeable sources.
But I do agree that lives were lost (all of them needlessly) and that, among others, Martin McGuinness bore responsibility for these deaths. However, for all that I would never have voted for his party or supported his particular vision of Irish nationalism, I do have to give him credit for changing at least his, and the vast majority of militant Irish nationalism's, methods. In the same way as I had to credit Ian Paisley with being much more reasonable and level headed in power than any of his impassioned speeches would have led me to expect.

Mods constantly sinking threads with any sort of debate. It's a ban on free speech.
Blackpool have been fined £35,000 after Wigan's James McClean was subjected to sectarian abuse during the Championship match between the two clubs in April.
The Football Association charged Blackpool with failing to ensure their fans behaved in an orderly fashion during the game at Bloomfield Road.
The club accepted the charge and an independent regulatory commission imposed the fine.
Just heard a Charlton scout was over here looking at Derry City FCs 22 year old striker James Mclean, there has been a bit of hype about him alright but have yet to see him in action.
MAYBE he could be that extra young striker we need
I wonder what would of happened in that world he came to Charlton

Fact: the queen sent a letter of condolence
Fact: You have dodged my question twice
I bid you good night sir
