It's funny, you know ..... but in my experience either playing or watching the game, players always perform better if you play to their specific strengths. It's what they are good at.

But some managers don't seem to see that, strangely.

I thought Iwelumo was good for us but Pardew had to play Gray over him due to the money spent. If we had stuck with big Chris we would be in a better place right now- knew it at the time and believe it 100% now.

The words 'Midfield partnership of Semedo and Racon' make my heart sink
even now. The names of these types of players we've endured recently
just make me think of one word: FAILURE.

Ridiculously overrated by fans, for gods sake let's just get rid, and
move onwards and upwards, don't give a damn if he goes to Palace.

How people can put faith in/hang onto quotes like "I really want to
stay, I love the club" in this footballing day and age is beyond me!

i think you'll find that players get charltonised and then go on to perform better elsewhere once they're away from the footballing graveyard that is CAFC

    Semedo is better
I'm not having that. I believe i conclusively proved i am the better player about a week ago so let's not re open that. Apologies to the blokes who ended up having the mistaken identity tiff. I'm back now so if you want to vent some frustration, fire away. So far so good in the restructuring though - complete new midfield looking likely and Mr Chapple being given some 'help'. Looks like they've rumbled a couple of the major problems from the last few years - a few more to go yet.

Sheffield Weds in for him apparently. Can't see that happening.

God bless you nth london addick! Something Bexley Dan wouldnt understand even by his fantastic footballing standards!!
Throw your football comics away sonny. You don't have to have a defensive athlete who cannot play in your midfield. Having said that, i'm surprised at some of the big guns that are queuing up to sign him. Palace, Sheff Wed - where will it end?

The fact we haven't resigned Semedo proves we don't have that much money. Otherwise we'd just pay what he wanted and done with, especially as the board know he's a fans favourite. Bad news if true.

Or maybe it says that CP doesn't rate him as highly as most here do?  Even if we can afford to pay him what he'd like powell might want to spend that money elsewhere. Semedo has been offered a contract which we can assume he's turned down, so when he walks away, we come out of it smelling of roses.................
    reckon this is about right.

footballers are mercanaries, available to the highest bidder. Previously on 6k pw he won't be happy with our 3k pw offer and will look elsewhere. Whether he gets any better offer time will tell. If he does he'll be off. I am convinced that most footballers, even those with a PL club, would play for Stevenage in League 2 if they were to offer them more money.

You dont have to, no Bexley Dan, but could you name me a top team in the world who doesnt have a defensive midfielder who anchors?......

Thats the point - the level of football we play doesn't warrant it and the anchors in the top class teams can also play. Name me one who can't.

You'll struggle to name one who is the highest paid player at their club

Admittedly you wouldnt find a defensive midfield at a top club who is their highest paid player. But the lower you go down the leagues the more the role of the defensive midfielder changes, ie in the prem the defensive midfield supports there attacking midfielders, and in the lower divisions (as someone has already pointed out) the defensive midfield covers and helps out in defence (which is what Semedo has done an awful lot) I am not being ignorant to the fact that we have been terrible the last few seasons, but i really do think Semedo is used as a scapegoat. There have been games this season where he has simply been unplayable and last season!

Yaya Toure was bought as one and is the highest paid player at City... didn't quite work out like it though under Mancini!

But he is used as a scapegoat by a vocal minority. Did anybody get the chance to see the comparitive ticks on the player of the year voting sheets - I don't think it was a close run thing from what I saw and I didn't vote for him but I do rate him and think retaining his services would be a massive plus for us should we achieve it.

The vast majority are hoping we get his signature on a contract soon. If people dont see the amount of cleaning up he does in midfield then they dont watch the games.

Covered end junior tells me that it's all over Sheff W sites that Semedo is going there. His brother lives up there & he wants to be near him.
  • Can we not get somebody who shows a lot of heart , passion call it what you want for Charlton , who can do the same job as Semedo , at half the cost in wages? then use those wages to get a decent quick centre half , that we all know we need?

I'd rather he stay but as long as he does not go to Palace - good luck to him.
I Still think his agent is playing a game at the moment to get Charlton to up their wage offer.

He is out of contract and free to choose what to do, if we want to keep him that much we will have to find a (financial?) solution. Saying that, Wednesday is a better destination for the lad than Crystal Palace.

agreed, he'll be linked with Millwall next - if we can get him on squad player money i'll be happy with that. Racon i really don't want back.

CL would've a very quite place if we actually waited til something happened! Its called speculation and it's what 80% of forums are all about.
    If you don't like it......
