Was anyone really happy when Danny Murphy and Andy Reid left?
The difference this time is that many (myself included) would very much doubt that Semedo is our best player. His performances last season did not justify the enormous salary he is on.

He was Player of the Year, so a lot of people did think he was the best.
So what if we don't get anyone better in and we rely on Hollands and McOxo in the middle of the park, with JJ left and Waggy right? Personally I hope this is borlacks and he re-signs, even if he isn't a good player, he is one of those players who you know would die for the cause

Fans' player of the year and squad's best player are not the same thing

not nessessarily, was just a lot of fans favourite player for a lot of reasons and some not down to football ability
Would prefer him to stay but in all honesty I was hoping that if he was with us next season then he would not be certain to start because of the players brought in. If he does stay then fine but if he goes I am still more interested by the players that are arriving. Was gutted when Andy Reid went but won't feel anything like as distraught about Jose as much as I like the bloke. Can't say that I am not a little disappointed that it might be to Palace though.
shame to see him go, but don't think i'll be too gutted, other than the fact it's palace I guess.
Semedo's tried his hardest and gave it his all the whole time his been here and thats a great quality to have, but if he is leaving I wish him luck where ever he goes to.
We have missed a trick with Semedo the whole time he has been here. That plonker Pardew turned him into a midfielder when it was quite painfully clear that he was a defender and played well when we put him there. When he goes his new club will no doubt have the personnel to notice his qualities and play him in the correct position and he will go on to much bigger and better things than either us or Palace. This is a classic example of a player being Charltonised, the fact he managed to still win player of the year when playing out of position shows the effort, passion and ability of the man. I will be gutted if he joins Palace, who are far worse than Millwall for me personally as most of my mates are Palace, and as for wishing him the best if he goes there - no chance.
Not convinced he's a centre back, could struggle in the air against if the opposition put a big powerful striker on. He's not a right back either, he doesn't offer enough going forward, though he could 'do a job' there.
He'd probably be at his best in a 3 man central midfield. In a 4-4-2 he'll really need some very good attacking midfielders to make up for his weaknesses.
There is no way to hold on to a discontented player. If he goes, good luck to him. He earned his money and did his limited best whilst at CAFC. The same thing applies to any player who feels as though he'd be better off elsewhere and the management can't convince him otherwise..
IF, he's off to Palace then good luck to him. Thoroughly nice bloke. I was more upset when Claus Jensen left for Fulham and more angry when Smurphy left for Spurs
I have no problem with Semedo leaving for better money. He has served the club well & good luck to him HOWEVER, signing for Palace really leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. If he loved this club s much as he says then that is a big no-no. Hero to zero in no time at all. Just my opinion!"
I agree with Scoham in that he's not a centre back. Not sure of the exact stats but he's probably played over 90% of his competetive senior games as a midfielder - that makes him a midfielder in my book. 2" taller and he might be suited to it, but he's just a touch too short imo and doesn't have an un-naturally good leap like a Chris Perry.
I think where we've missed a trick with Jose is in not encouraging him to get forward a bit more earlier in his time at the club. Powell has tried to do this and I think the early signs are if we were to continue to do this he'd chip in with a goal here and there. As I've said in other theads - if he did that and kept up the work rate and spoiling of oppositions play he'd more than justify his place in the side, especially if there was generally more creativity in the rest of the midfield.
I'm a big fan of Jose and not just because he's a committed player, I think he's good at what he does well and not nearly as bad in other areas as some people make out, moreover he seems to be working at growing as a player and adding to his existing strengths.
I don't deny he's limited in many ways, but how many players aren't at this level - I'll be surprised if Hollands comes in plays like a cross between Roy Keane and Paul Scholes. I actually think Jose's starting to look like a captain and a player who leads by example and produces a lot of his best stuff when the chips are down and in the big games.
It's a money decision in the end and I understand that - we shouldn't offer more than we can afford and Jose shouldn't accept less than he can get. Neither side owes the other anything. I just hope we're not penny pinching and undervaluing Jose because I'm frimly of the opinion he's one of the few players at the club who fit into the supposed ethos of building a team to compete in the league above as well as this one. He's not irreplacable, but that doesn't mean he'll be easily replaced.
Want him to stay and really hope he signs a new contract with us.
However, I will be a bit miffed if he doesn't accept a contract after his "I'd sign any contract I'm offered" interview. Why make comments like that if you don't go on to sign unless you get a life-changing offer. He knew when he made those comments we would be a League 1 club next season and knew he would be offered reduced terms.
If he goes to Palace, regardless of convenience, it just makes things worse in my opinion - no forgiveness or understanding from me.
Please sign the deal Jose, don't be another mercenary as everything you've shown on that big green thing since you arrived has indicated that you are a passionate, conscientious and honourable player, regardless of your few short-comings (contrary to the bashing you got on here last week) and the team's failures.
He is out of contract and free to choose where to go. We are free to choose what kind of offer to present to him. If he signs for Crystal Palace then let him go, move on. In the long term Crystal Palace will never be able to compete with us until they find the money to sort their stadium issue...the desperation regarding the Athletics track/Tottenham link shenanigans is witness to that. IF Palace sort out a decent ground, and manage to grow their support to levels that can compare with ours over a period of four or five years, then maybe we should be concerned about them competing with us.
i will hope we sign him until he actually goes somewhere.
As for Palace, had a friendly discussion with a Palace supporting colleague who thinks they have better support - what killed his argument was when he tried to argue Selhurst was a better ground than the Valley- which he described as soulless- he seemed serious but i found it hard to keep a straight face. lol
I was about to mention to him that he said they would 100% be signing James Vaughan but then this story broke. Hope it is proven to be false so that I can revert to piss taking mode.
Fingers crossed she is referring to the pre contract thingy. Just sent her a text asking "you sure it's Semedo? I know i asked earlier but i dont believe it are you positive its not Racon as I heard he's joining you?" got the reply of "yes"
That's all... B1tch! Lol just kidding Katie as I know you used to spy on CL!

Wasn't he linked with them about a month ago on a pre contract agreement and Freedman said it was all complete rubbish and just agent talk? He won't be leaving for palace
Think Freedman also denied they were after Glen Murray at the same time, and look what happened. Personally, I'm not sure it would be a disaster if Jose isn't playing for us next season. Perhaps a change in that position (Hollands) might be the catalyst for success. Although Id prefer it that he played abroad
i sat next to four of semedo's close friends at hillsborough that pay to come to watch him. they all seemed to think that he loved being at 'our' club and that he felt very well received by the fans and people at Charlton. Sad if he goes, but this sport is a business and all players are businessmen.

I remember when Stevie brown was linked with palarse towards the end of his career.
His response ? I'd never play for that lot.
