Poyet = exciting but surely unlikely. Like most I'd prefer not to have Wise on board. Of the young upcoming managers, Howe & Tisdale have both worked wonders on next to nothing, both managing to get their teams playing very attractive winning football. I also greatly admire what Hughton achieved at Newcastle, remaining pragmatic under such intense scrutiny, clearing out a lot of overpaid rubbish and getting those that remained to believe.
Don't like the idea of a Charlton legend (eg Chrissy) with no experience. It could easily end in tears and people would end up turning on someone who deserves so much better. Nor do I want a "name" who's never worked on a tight budget (assuming he'll still have to). It's such an important appointment - getting us up from what's still a healthy position could banish these days of doom & gloom for a long time if we have someone who can take us forward if & when we get there.
[cite]Posted By: Bennyhill[/cite]Also am I right in thinking Glen Hoddle is now second favourite for us?? (sorry I know f.all about betting, odds etc)
Yes he seems to have come in at 6/1 from nowhere :-(
That's a non-starter in my opinion. A couple of supporters suggested him as an option on BBC London phone-in yesterday evening. He is in Spain at the moment running a project which he set up about 4 years ago which helps young British players released by their clubs to make their way back into the professional game. A great deal of hard work has gone into it and I'd be very surprised if he decided to knock it on the head for the sake of coming to manage us.
Don't know a great deal about how bookmakers work, but I'm getting the impression that they are very nervous about insider knowledge on these sort of bets, to the point where I could go and put £50 on Noel Edmonds to be our next gaffer and his odds would be down to 6-1 within a few minutes.
[cite]Posted By: pilchard[/cite]Will not be Poyet, don't want any former Charlton manager, can see the obvious pro's and con's in Tisdale, Hughton, would not want Martin Allen, Peter Taylor. Without it being Mr Wise whom I am neither for nor against it's hard to envisage who it may be. That said it would be nice to be galvanized by a decent ambitious appointment, in short I have no clue on it!
no curbs?
That was more skewed towards the unbelievable mentionings of Dowie as a candidate with certain bookies but I don't really think Curbs is serious contender for the Charlton job. As much as I love him and what he did for us the saying never go back springs to mind. I'm not sure he would want to either- different time different place I feel both parties need to look forward. If it did happen though I wouldn't mind but I don't see it ever happening. The Dowie mentionings at various bookies take the piss, I wouldn't pay him to clean my shoes!
Glenn Hoddle at the valley dont come much better,to watch players passing the ball correctly ridding us of hoofing and feeding of the other teams mistakes,no more deflection goals real football ...please
I'd be surprised if the club are past opening a few applications yet. Doubtless they have ideas and, with the exception of Dowie, it perfectly plausible that any one from the bookies' lists are being considered.
I'd be surprised if they've made their mind up exactly who they want - at best they'll have made approaches for 3 or 4 with a view to interviewing them.
We effectively have a free week this week as the Spurs game is fairly meaningless so they are not likely to rush this. I don't think they had a man lined up either - I believe it was their intention to back Parky, but they were shocked by the performance vs Swindon and have maybe found a few things out about morale etc since they've been in charge. Who knows what was said at that meeting on Tuesday. I think it was a bit of a snap decision to sack Parky so they are starting from square 1 in looking for a replacement.
At best a new man might be in charge i time to watch the Spurs game from the stands but I wouldn't be surprised if it's next week before we find out more.
The Wise and Clarke things make sense because of the Chelsea links as does Hughton because he's cheaper and ex Newcastle.
My preferred choice would be Eddie Howe (Poyet is not an option) and the Clarke one sounds interesting. I'd only really want Wise in an assistants role, not as the number 1.
[cite]Posted By: scabbyhorse[/cite]Thats what i heard too boogica , i think we will find out how much money really is behind us in the next few days!
heard money isnt a problem ,stumbling block is time to sort it out and whether we can wait long enough.
and obviously brighton letting him speak to us ok their chairman will be reluctant to let him go but remember this 2011 football and people have changed.

Or him even!

Wise 2/7
Poyet 5s
Clarke 7s
Curbs 8s

Bookies crep themselves every time a £10+ bet is put on, so either that or another rumour..
Keithy at 12s

Also Brian Laws 16-1? Should be 516-1. If they employed Laws i think i'd pack Charlton in.
Very hard to argue with that!!
A real non runner for sure.
