[cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]Talk of Poyet is complete fantasy isn't it. Only a few days ago the new chairman was talking about living within our means, not throwing money at the club or pie in the sky and all that.
Only way he'd come here is if he had serious money to spend. Poyet and his staff would surely cost several million in compensation as well, he's on a 4 year deal at Brighton.
I think we'll get Wise, he'll impress at first like new players do because he's different to Parky but end up doing no better while spending more money.
Pure speculation
Every opinion on something that has not yet happened is pure speculation.
Lets put the Poyet thing to bed, as it is nothing short of ridiculous. It takes very, very little to move prices in managerial bets, particularly for a 3rd division club. A few small bets from people on here would have done the damage. Bookmakers simply don't take big bets in these instances purely because they are fearful of inside knowledge.
Poyet would be a perfect candidate for all the obvious reasons. However he currently has too much of a good thing going for him which far outweighs that.
[cite]Posted By: Chunes[/cite]Iain Dowie at 20/1... What?
He was at 8-1 with one bookie. I had to laugh at that. Although I did note on Sky Sports last night that they did not ask him his opinion on Parky's departure, just Merson and Minto.
Surprised George burley is no where on that list, and Paul ince. my money is on either Steve Clarke or wise if not both. Poyet wise and Steve brown would be great but won't happen
[cite]Posted By: Covered_End_Lad[/cite]chris hughton would be fantastic, billy davies would be good also
don't want Hughton - i want a magaer who has proved it at 2 or 3 clubs already - Hughton is like dowie and pardew - 1 good spell - any manager can do this but its turning bad spells around, re building teams and doing it more than once that proves anything if you ask me which is what Curbs did on several occassions when it started going pears - Ferguson and Wenger similarly have re built on plenty of occassions - Hughton has proved nothing to me - i want an empire builder not a nice bloke.

Surely you can't hope for Poyet but dimiss Hughton, who has won a title and managed a club for a full season.
Out of all the possibly managers I can't really think of any that have proven themselves at 2 or 3 clubs. Most have done well with one club and failed at another (eg Darren Ferguson), or have only managed one club in the FL (such as Tisdale at Exeter).
They talk about living within the clubs means but that doesn't mean not spending money. There will be a business plan on how to get out of the division and that is going to involve modest investment at worse. They also know they can't drag this out as the new manager needs to be able to indentify his targets and get them within the transfer window.
Any manager currently in a job will need to want the job and that is something we don't know but I'm not sure I'd advise Poyet or Howe to take it. But stranger things have happened and we are a bigger club with more unfulfilled potential I suppose. Will be quite enticing for a manager not in a job so I'd put the front runners as Brown, Jewell and Ferguson but it is going to come down to who the baord fancy. If there is serious money behind the board - candidates like Curbishley and Allaydice would be possibilities so it would be nice if it was one of them for that reason alone. The bookies don't have a clue so their guesses are the same as everybody elses.
I know a guy who knows Gus. Won't bother explaining how, but I asked him if they'd spoken in the last 48 hours, he said yes, they had. He gave nothing away, I'm told, but ultimately my friend's opinion was that Gus is so happy at Brighton, both in terms of his standing at the club and the quality of football they are playing, that he doesn't remotely expect Gus to up and leave, and that Gus expected to be linked to the job because of his links to Jiminez and his son being at the club (is this true, cos I didn't know this titbit?).
I trust this guy's opinion, and won't be putting a penny on Gus joining us. Thought it worth sharing in case you were planning on putting some wedge down.
Will not be Poyet, don't want any former Charlton manager, can see the obvious pro's and con's in Tisdale, Hughton, would not want Martin Allen, Peter Taylor. Without it being Mr Wise whom I am neither for nor against it's hard to envisage who it may be. That said it would be nice to be galvanized by a decent ambitious appointment, in short I have no clue on it!

Put a line through it and move on.
Agreed, possibly with Andy Scott from Brentford as well.

I think it's more to do with Steve Clarke winning the league twice with Chelsea as assistant manager.
Mine too
Zola didn't cover himself with glory at West Ham. I can't see any reason why he'd be more suited to League 1.
