  • [quote][cite]Posted By: UP...THE...ADDICKS[/cite]Why does everyone keep saying it was 4-3-3? It was 4-5-1 without a doubt[/quote]

Well ffs don't ask the manager or players because I have no doubt neither knew wtf was going on in terms of formation.

Forgot to mention to you, theres no refunds for that tottenham ticket your'e stuck with it now mate!

    Ahaha, great ;)

[cite]Posted By: csr_cafc[/cite]I would say hes a good assistant and no more.

Why would you even say that? As an assistant to Pardew, none of what went wrong was apparently anything to do with him. So if he really was incapable of exerting any influence whatsoever, I'd say that makes him a pretty crap assistant, too!

Thats purely based on the fact that he isnt too bad in the transfer market and seems to have the respect of the squad. As a tactical player he cant hack it.

not sure there's any evidence to suggest he's 'not too bad in the transfer market' but i suppose its a game of opinions.
  • a couple of names that as far as I can see that nobody has mentioned - Not sure if they'd be possible, probably depends on how much money we really do have -

    O'Driscoll at Doncaster?

    Tisdale at Exeter?

I would be very surprised if Parky was sacked given all that Slater has said so far, but watching thousands leave as the 3rd and 4th goals go in on live TV tends to be contrast to what he said too.

Like others, always been a Parky defender but struggling to do that tonight and starting to wonder where it goes from here.
  • Because of the takeover and the excitement and expectation that goes with it I will no doubt continue to attend matches and give my support. Even god forbid with PP remaining in charge. Had the takeover not gone ahead I really do think for the first time in 50 years I might just have had to have a break. The shambolic boring football at Charlton has driven me to my supporting edge. That how serious this situation is. Please take note Mr. slater because I rekon I am not alone.

Before the match I would have expected nothing less than a 100% commitment to Parky. He's hardly going to say "we haven't made a decision yet on whether he stays" and undermine him just as the teams are preparing for a big match. Tomorrow when they meet he may well be saying something different.
  • I don't think so......just remember that these people aren't emotionally attached like us lot. If the crowds continue to drop away, then you'll see some swift action.
  • Managers looking for work:

    - Chris Hughton
    - Darren Ferguson
    - Brian Laws (surely we aren't taht desperate...).
    - Big Sam.

Chris Hughton is interesting, presumably Jimeniz knows him from his time at Newcastle. Whether he wants to work with him again though is a moot point.
  • The new owners need to sack Parkinson this week. This is the second humiliation at the Valley this season. Enough is enough.

I don’t care who the new owners put in charge. Be it Dennis Wise or even Ernie Wise. Anyone could manage our club better that Parkinson.
  • I wasn't being completely serious with the Di Canio suggestion but I wouldn't be gutted if it was the case. Clearly a gamble but as I mentioned when the last similar thread came up, Di Matteo, Poyet and Martinez were all gambles of foreign managers in the Lower Leagues which have all worked, doesn't guarantee Di Canio will of course but with Jiminez and assuming Wise is around in the background, he should have some experience around him. Sousa would be a safer option to play better football but I think he might wait for another crack in the Championship which I think he will be given. Same with Southgate, don't see why people care about the Palace connection at all to be honest.

The main problem is we have no idea how much money we actually have, if there are richer backers, we could have a chance of taking a Howe or Tisdale as we would obviously have a lot more potential than Bournemouth/Exeter.

    Third.
  • I think it is time to do something - the players must think it's acceptable to do sod all all game so they are clearly not worried about how PP will react. They have to take some of the blame but it is ultimately the manager's job to make it happen.

Problem might now be that the new owners would think they might be considered to be overreacting if they made such a key decision in the first 10 days. PDC would be fine in my eyes. Is Matt Holland managing yet ? Shame Kinsella hasn't had more experience.
  • Parky's doing well, I want him to stay.
  • Last time we conceded 4 we went on a winning run so hopefully Parky can do it again.

If he is to go then Chris Houghton isn't the worst
  • Whoever mentioned O'Driscoll is a great shout. I'm a big fan of how Doncaster play, he has done well there with limited resources. Keeps being linked with bigger jobs but never seems to get them. If he was available at a reasonable price I would be a big fan of that appointment.
  • [cite]Posted By: dylanthedog[/cite]Parky's doing well, I want him to stay.

Now, you must be Palace or Wall.
  • Odriscoll has recently turned down a 'bigger' club to stay at donny, so can't see him coming here in a million years!

I'm guessing we all would be.
  • I personally think he'll be given this season to see if things are turned around, but I seriously doubt a top 6 finish
  • I wanted Parkinson to go when we got rid of Pardew and my opinion of him hasn't changed. He's like a headless chicken and hasn't got a clue. The brand of football that he plays won't encourage the punters to come flooding back through the gates in their droves. He should go now. The owners are in a difficult position. Bearing in mind his record for bringing in very average players this season, do they trust him to spend whatever money is available wisely or do they bring in their own man? I have a feeling we're going to see a new manager in the very near future

  • I've always been able to find excuses for Parkinson - left overs from Pardew, the financial problems, the takeover or not and so on.....but I am beginning to think I have been wrong.

His results are not good enough, this was his team and despite a fairly solid league position it doesn't seem to be working well enough. Too many scrapping for points, too many poor performances at home.

I would like to see Darren Ferguson come in. Have a complete shake up, and that includes Kinsella going, which is a sad day. But no more reminders of the past couple of managers could do the club the world of good. It might also be best for Kins to go out and try and get a managers job somewhere. Ferguson did a decent job at Peterborough, they played some good stuff and he had a reasonable record in the transfer market. Plus of course we can get all of United's reserves who are no longer at Preston!
  • It seems the penny has finally dropped for a few former parkie fans. His lack of tactical nous has been plain for a long time now and he doesn't even seem to have a favoured system of style yet, after 2 years in the job. Someone earlier in the thread asked what 'brilliant' replacement we could get in? We don't need brilliant, just competent, we have the players and a half decent budget to get out of this league, we just need a leader now who holds the respect of the players and one who they fear a little too.
  • To the comments re: the new owners not wanting to seem like they're over-reacting or hypocritical to the press - well if they are really the men to take us forwards and successful business men then they won't care about what the media think in the short term, they'll do whatever is right for the business regardless.

And if that is the case (which I get the impression from Slater, at least, is) then for that reason I can't see anything other than a Parky sacking in the next day or two.

I think a Wise/Di Canio pairing of some sort (director of football/manager split) would be just the lift we need. I think we need to start thinking like a big club again to become one.
  • Astonished by last night's 'performance'.

PP is too negative as a manager, would rather 'not lose' than go for a result.

We're at home and we go 4-5-1. Lump it up to Benson and feed off him. Was that the idea. I feel a bit sorry for Benson because when he joined us, PP said that he wanted Benson to add more to his game. So instead of poaching goals (his primary objective), he now has to bring down chest or head height balls thumped at him and then seek support from....errr, no-one.

We had McCormack man marking their No 8.

We should be making Swindon worry about us. Seems to me that PP was shit scared of a team lying 18th in the table. What sort of message does that send to the team?

I would much rather PP succeeds and we have some continuity. But it ain't gonna happen.

Any neutral watching that on Sky last night must have been thinking 'how are they 4th'. Embarassing.
  • Should have gone with Pardew, didn't have the money to sack him. Shouldn't have got the job full time, didn't have the money to sack him. Should have been sacked for not getting us up last season, didn't have the money to sack him. If only we had some money now.
  • The problem for the new owners is laid out somewhat baldly now. a) Strengthen the squad, but keep Parky and risk missing out on promotion because he can't get it to work, or b) bring in an expensive new set up now and risk missing out on promotion because they can't turn it around in time. Option a) appears the cheaper option, but we may not have many supporters left, b) is much more costly, but may bring the supporters back. Is it advisable to make hasty decisions or have they already got it worked out behind the scenes? Here's hoping they really do know what they're doing.
  • 40 applicants for the Preston job apparently. Will Parky even make it to the shortlist after last night?
  • Danny Wilson showed us the way, he sent out a team that has obviously benefited from quality coaching, with an excellent tactical game plan. I have been saying all season that our coaching team are clueless, and last night it showed more than ever. I hope that the new management will act swiftly, because there is no point in bringing in new players if you are going to let the current bunch coach them. Perhaps it's time to give Damian Matthews a chance.
  • Good shout, Grandpa. Damian is a proven first class coach who knows the club and would provide some stability in the short, and quite possibly, long term.
  • Paul Trollope would be great at this level
