Hmmm, yes. It is, isn't it?
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: Bexley Dan[/cite]Can see it coming together now. Varney as Chairman, rich arab pumping in millions, Curbishley director of football, Poyet manager, Zola nr.2, Richard Murray club ambassador, Keith Peacock and Derek Hales assisting Richard, me as Real Ale advisor. 40,000 stadium in 2 years, league title and champions league double in 3. Cosmic.[/quote]

Haha, and ticket prices of £100 a game...I would be back to watching Bromley! If it was the Arabs I reckon there would have been a leak in the media with The Sun or Mirror all over it. Bunch of wealthy local businessmen will do me - anyone with enough Dollar to keep us going a few more years!
  • i said to my dear old mum today that i think curbs has involvement somewhere, i dont know why i think that but i just have sneaky that the mesiah will one day return and lead us back to where we belong..

    He said "I'm buying Charlton"
  • [cite]Posted By: grumpyaddick[/cite]The PV deal was on the table in July and was rumoured to consist of wealthy individuals with strong Charlton connections and close links to Lord Curbs.

Hopefully this is still the case as I do not want the club sold to a group of cocaine snorting, mega rich ego maniacs with no sympathy for the clubs heritage or the local community.

Charlton always had a soul and the club has done the right things off the pitch (anti-racism/community trust etc). This should not be for sale at any price.

English football does not need any more corrupt marketing brands run by crooks looking to save tax and sell nylon replica shirts to Malaysians.

    What he said. Unless....

  • [cite]Posted By: redknowledgeboy1972[/cite]Allegedly the people behind Peter Varney are Wise and Jimenez.........

    I heard the same rumour
  • Hope not I'd rather have rod hull and emu

Wise and Jiminez .......um. So PV is a front for two people who don't have any real dosh thought wise and Jiminez were front men themselves ? Curious if you ask me.
  • Never in a billion gazillion years, as SHG says PV would be the front for a front for ?

Just doesn't add up at all, whoever is behind PV will be people with money, i.e. the investors themselves, not more intermediaries
  • Will this new lot finally rid us of the pixies?

    that rumour = bullshit
  • Grasshopper...Confucius say, wait till the fat lady has sung, before clapping your hands.
  • In all the takeovers of other clubs in the last few years has there been any as secretive as this i.e. where nobody has any idea who the new owners are until the deal is completed? This is not a rhetorical question. I would genuinely like to know if any other club has been sold and the identity of the new owners has not been revealed until the deal has been done. At the moment I can't recall any.

Maybe it is the fact that Charlton are currently effectively owned by one individual that makes it possible for the sale process to complete before anyone knows who the new investors are?
  • What we really want to know is has the takeover altered the promotion % odds ooh aah Mortimer does after every game?

  • Mandaric deal was kept pretty quiet

    So it seems.
  • Dan Roan was told it was Wise but a senior club source denied it. From the world of Twitter
  • you have to ask why keep it secret though eh, perhaps its so the squad dont get unsettled til additions can be secured - meaning a substantial investment is coming?

    :D

Notts County and Munto Finance. Notts did not know who the bidders were when the takeover was announced. They did not find out after it was completed. And, as far as I know, still don't know months after Munto sold.

That was bizarre. It is perhaps a bit odd that the backers have asked to remain anonymous, but let's not forget what a nightmare the media is in this country. The less the media are told the less damage they can do. Whoever it is, I don't blame either them Murray or Varney for keeping a news blackout until the sale is signed sealed and delivered.

    I wrote the following in October '08;

"My guess is that this is a huge climb down from Zabeel who almost certainly received orders from above to abandon the deal. It would be interesting to know when they got that instruction.

Dubai is not oil rich like big brother Abu Dhabi and has been investing aggressively to become the financial centre for the region (UAE and GCC) as well as in the tourist industry (witness the spectacular Palm Island). Perhaps inevitably given the failure of the global financial system, Dubai has run into liquidity problems and whilst the position is probably very manageable the situation has given Abu Dhabi, Dubai’s defacto lender of last resort, the chance to rein in its upstart little brother. Abu Dhabi has long thought Dubai to be a little too aggressive and no doubt made its point during a recent weekend long, “crisis” meeting of the UAE leadership. Against this background, the leadership in Dubai probably concluded that “sponsoring” an investment company to make a high profile acquisition of an English Football Club wasn’t smart politics (the trivial sum of money wouldn’t have been the issue) and told Zabeel to extricate themselves. Zabeel are probably very embarrassed, but credit to them for complementing Charlton and rubbishing the media talk that they were looking at other clubs.

Bottom line is we’ve been very unlucky. Had Zabeel made their indicative offer two weeks sooner the deal would probably have been done."

Reading this back, I think it still makes sense but even here the wretched media played a role. It was the media feeding frenzy which would have been the concern for the rulers in Dubai not the money.
  • Could he be involved Mohammed Al Hashimi again??
  • for the benefit of Ketman and everyone else who isn't interested after the Bristol Rovers thriller i was
"10% automatic promotion 75% play off pressure 15 % we'll be in this division next season thinking of restarting target 10k !"

still a bit tough to call seeing as the faceless possee don't wanna show themselves or what they wanna waste on us but can't see it being anything to write home about but the feel good factor will push us in the right direction so currently I am
12% automatics 83% play offs and 5% walk the plank mr nice guy !
  • There are very good reasons for keeping the due diligence period secret.

When the club was a plc it was a Stock Exchange requirement.

If any of the bidders have a Stock Exchange listing their share price could be affected.

If they pull out, as has happened before, the value of the club could go down.

All of us have got wait and hope for the best.

The good part is that the Football League have stated that the bidders are fit and proper people to own the club and must have the financial backing to do it.

I have been interested in your opinions/percentages especially seeing how they change after each result maybe you could start a new thread on the subject or i will do soon if not.
In my opinion the % are
    16% auto
    54% play offs
    30% remain div 1
