  • I'm knocking one out 'ere.

    Welcome back Reg!
  • Who are Baton? Are they a group of playboys who see Charlton as a new toy or hardnosed, faceless corporate types looking to squeeze as much money out of the club as possible?
  • Fingers crossed - no-one yet knows who is behind it but if Varney is fronting it we can be optimistic
  • Great news on the face of it, believe me when i say this is a far more positive outcome for Charlton than other interest that has been close to taking over.

Very, very assured Reg is involved.

Very intrigued who he is fronting though.
  • If Varney is involved that has to be a positive
  • Varney involved ... as said above this has to be a big big plus ... but who is behind it???

    Baton are the current owners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got to be good if Peter Varney is leading it - he's a 'real' fan. Hope the money from the investors is 'good' - but suspect it must be if Murray has accepted.
  • Financial stability is key, so no promotion this year may not be a bad thing.

That said, I'm buzzing! I can't wait to see what happens now!
  • Brilliant news, can't wait to hear more! COME ON YOU REDS!

  • No holiday for us today but hoping this may, at long last, be the news that will finally bring some cheer to us and everyone else.
  • Wow after numerous threads, 1000's of posts, Twitter leaks- maybe this is finally it.

And it is on the OS
  • Murray took sole control of the club through Baton 2010, a company controlled by Murray and his family, in August.

Basically it was called Baton as Murray wanted sole control to make the club much easier to 'pass on' to new owners

this, the fact that Varney is involved is enough for me
  • The deal is to be completed by December the 24th.. merry Christmas everybody!
  • If PV is fronting it I'd be very happy.

I always presumed he was just trying to attract investment rather than being specifically involved.
  • Time to come clean - Varney is fronting it for me.

Have drawn up a list of people that wont be getting season tickets next year. (Thanks to AFKA for passing on personal details)
  • Could this be a double piece of good news?? Charlton get takenover with Varney involved and England get the 2018 world cup!!
  • come someone please abuse that twittering twonk Dan Roan?

    Ta

Can we have a "No singing" section in the lower West for me please? :-)
  • In all honesty I was hoping all along he would be involved somewhere along the line. He knows all about the club - he knows what we want, he is a thoroughly nice guy AND he's a fan. In fact the only person I hold in such high regard with Murray is Varney. I pray this is all good news

And we all know who he is great friends with........
  • Can someone cut and paste the OS article please as it's blocked my employers nazi firewall. Ta in advance.
  • Baton 2010 Limited has accepted an indicative and legally binding offer for the acquisition of Baton 2010, Charlton Athletic Football Company Limited and Charlton Athletic Holdings Limited from an investor group represented by former Addicks chief executive Peter Varney, Charlton chairman Richard Murray announced on Thursday afternoon.

The investor group is currently undertaking full legal and financial due diligence.

Subject to the investor group being satisfied with the outcome of this due diligence, it is anticipated that completion of the acquisition will take place no later than December 24th.

The club will make a further announcement in due course, but there will be no other comment until that time.

Murray took sole control of the club through Baton 2010, a company controlled by Murray and his family, in August.
  • Yippee at last. But still the dreaded dd to get through. Always thought it was strange that Reg came back, then left abruptly.
  • Fantastic stuff, welcome back PV*

*Assuming all the paperwork and due diligence stuff is sorted.
  • YEAH !!!! A blinding light at the end of an ever darkening tunnel !!

Arise, Sir Reg - We knew you would do it !

" When the Reg , Reg, robin comes bob bob bobbing....."
  • Not going to get too excited until the deal is done but sounds very, very good news.

Peter Varney's involvement re-assures but "investment group"? Who, what and how much?

Live, love, laugh and BE HAPPY
  • from the sound of it Murray is happy with them (unlike some of the other "offers" we've had") and now its just down to due dilligence on their part. Seeing as the bid is being fronted by Varney and only recently have Baton 2010 taken control I can't see too many obstacles in the way.....all the skeletons must have already been exhumed and there should not be any "hidden" debts or loans.

Full Steam Ahead...............with Curbs as Manger come next summer.
  • Let's hope this isnt Zebeel all over again!
