Great news for CAFC fans on a disappointing day for English football overall (not that I'm overly fussed about the WC bid, though getting knocked out in the first round (if true) is pretty embarrassing
2+2.........I have heard from various sources that the chaps at FIFA have come into a substantial pot of used notes / cash today so maybe it is them behind this bid?
great news but let's wait and see who the backers are. Are we sure that PV isn't just involved as a middle man and at the moment is the link between Charlton and the bidders. I don't think he will be involved once completed. Hope I am wrong though as I'd love to see PV as Chief Exec or even Chairman. Fingers crossed.
Actually the contract talks with Semedo and Racon make sense now. Charlton have previously let contracts run and negotiate at the end of them - they can only be offereing similar terms or it is a waste of time even opening talks now. What's the betting that the new owners have played a part in this move. If this is the case, you can rule out the mega bucks as we are not eyeing up Fabrigas or Gerrard but you can also see that there will be more money and a plan for next season. This is very welcome news as we are doing ok now playing wise and probably don't need too much more to really boost our promotion chances and what is needed is looking likely to come. Don't think Sainsbury is involved in this by the way. Probably a consortium of business men - well that would be my guess!
Thank you Richard Murray, I hope he continues at Charlton in some capacity. Like all of us I wonder who is financing the take over and how much money is involved. I just hope that this does not destabilise the team and that fans do not get on the Curbs bandwagon, that just would not be fair to Parky.
I really do not care who it is a as long as "Charlton people" are involved, my biggest fear is Varney gets the push as soon as it is completed and a circus kicks in. I hope that we still feel as much a part of the club as we do now
Having had contact and dealings with Peter Varney back in the days when we didn't have a pot, I will say that I am absolutely delighted. Peter was in the year below me at secondary school, and I can say that he is an absolute true fully fledged Addick and his involvement may be a lot of things but it won't be self-serving. Like everybody I want to know more, somehow (based on a feeling nothing else) I don't think there is a a big wedge behind this take over, but there will be a commitment to work in our great clubs best interests.
I have also met Richard Murray (and Martin Simons) a few times, I hope they will always be welcomed and respected by all at the club in the future because Richard in particular has been a hero and a legend for us, whatever his mistakes along the way.
My mind goes back to a meeting at the shabby Meridian, with a small committee of us Supporters Club officers, when Richard and Martin proposed the original five year season ticket/fan on the board proposal, they were good blokes then and remain so.
Thank you Richard, we have experienced great times with you, and the legacy you hand on is excellent.

Agree with that. If there is now money available in Jan, it will be temptiong to go out and buy ''better'' strikers than Benson, Anyinsah and Akpo and replace alleged weak links like Doherty, Elliot and Francis.
That can so easily go wrong, though, and on balance I'd say the players who got us into an automatic spot should probably be given the chance to finish the job. (Although after Sat. I might make an exception for Francis).
But hopefully the new money will mean we can strengthen in one or two areas, especially at the back, and it probably means Fortune will be let go in Jan.
Yes, the legacy is the Valley and with financial stability this development should provide, we are well placed now to move forward. You get a feeling that the bottom has been hit and we are on our way up. Don't think it will destabilise us at all, club is negotiating contracts for Semedo and Racon - that is the opposite and the bidders have to have played a part in it as I said above. It has been announced today but with Varney at the helm, Murray would have known about this in advance.
THE investor group who have had their takeover bid for Charlton accepted have already cleared a number of major hurdles.
The South London Press has learned that they have already supplied proof of funds and passed the fit-and-proper person test which the Football League require to hand over the share to play in their competition.
And the offer made by the group, represented by former Addicks chief executive Peter Varney, is legally binding – unless they find any nasty surprises during the due diligence process which is understood to be highly unlikely.
I'm thinking that the only real significance of Peter Varneys name is to provide a little feel-good for when we find out that the new guys haven't actually got that much more money than Richard Murray (or they're people that we won't actually like very much, like Wise!). I see this as a short-medium term deal that will ensure that the club can continue for perhaps next season in League One, should we fail to get promoted. Hopefuly I'm wrong and it's someone with serious money, but I doubt it.

I doubt very much that PV would be involved with anyone that he didn't feel was right for the Club.
Phew, the potential new owners have passed the "fit and proper" test - which basically means they managed to spell their names correctly on the FA form.
I was thinking the same thing about seemed and racon's contract.
Really hope theyvebgot money.
BBC report says sainsbury was rejected in November, surely he had a lot of money so this consortium must have some funds to be bake to comp tee with sainsbury? Or was he simply not the right person for the club...
I'm sure the new guys are 'right for the club', it's just that in our current circumstance, 'right for the club' is nowhere near as promising as it was when Zabeel were interested! That's why I'm afraid that we may find ourselves a tad underwhelmed when we find out how much clout these guys actually do have.
