I am deffo optimistic that this will happen, as it seem`s to of been gearing this way for some time, and i think Mr Murrey has been getting everything in place for this bid alone. But as all addicks know, it would not be the same if we did not have to gain some more grey hairs whilst waiting for the result. The future look`s bright. Were heading for the top flight!
I'm not getting excited,it's more a case of hoping for financial stability. RM's options were few, he wanted to sell, wasn't prepared/able to continue personally losing £4 million a year, had health scares, needed to protect his kid's fianancial futures. I would have sold to 'decent' people who had a bit more cash and could ensure survival. No-one would 'invest' in football these days as oohah says. So I'm in the goodish news (because of the PV connection), but still a bit scary camp.
Good news in my opinion. Mr Murray has always maintained that he would only sell the club or acquire new investment from the right people who have the clubs interests at heart.
With RV heading up/representing the consortium and the fact that accountants/lawyers have been looking at the books since Nov 27th added to the FL passing the potenial new owners as having the means and being 'fit and proper', then I would suggest that Murray has found his 'buyers'.
Now the burning question is - A what level of financial clout have the new owners got to invest? As has been previously mentioned on this thread is it in the £10m, £50m or £100m + bracket? In a few weeks (unless an unknown skeleton is found in the deepest closet) we will find out, but I will trust Mr Murray's judgement and rejoice that our club has been seen as a good place to invest (at whatever level) for the future, in these current poor economic climes!
When I finish working tonight I will come in a raise a glass of Red wine and toast Richard Murray for his unswerving support (and financial input) of our club over the last few years. Lets face it the future now looks more sustainable and perhaps, just perhaps, Christmas Eve will deliver what thousands have been hoping for -Charlton moving on up again!!!
Any fear that it was purposefully announced on the day when it would never receive any press as England were always going to win or lose the World Cup yesterday ?
[cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]Who in their right mind would "invest" in football
What have they to gain , I just don't understand why anyone would do it, unless they were super duper rich like abramovich and the manc city fella who are on an ego trip with money to burn
Or a jack walker / steve gibson style fella who had money to burn and was unconditionally in love with a club
How many people who have recently invested in football have made money?
The Sky boom may have a made a few chairman rich(the ones lucky enough to sell earlier on) but it seems to have encouraged poor house keeping and ridiculously badly run clubs , ourselves being a prime example of a mismanaged club
So who are the new owners , a group not an indiviidual by the sounds of it and what are they in this for ??? Why would they risk x amount of money without hoping to get a good return , where is that return gonna come from
if that return doesn't appear (with promotion bound to be a must for any rewards) how long will they burn their money supporting our slow motion car crash or is everything leveraged up against selling off the assets if it all goes properly tits up
Interesting but still scary times ...... I can't see the logic in buying a football club, fingers crossed we've got a group of steve gibson style punters not the risdale/ no money/ fly by night/ hit and run merchants
Understandable reservations from some while we learn more about those actually taking over, but very reassuiring that a true CAFC man is involved with them, and that our very own RM at this stage believes it to be a group worthy of our remarkable club. Enough money to enable us to compete, build, and continue to set the national standard within the local community would of course be welcomed but I honestly wouldn't feel comfortable with a Man City scenario. Whether the new owners are eventually true to their collective word only time will tell, but especially at such a tricky time financially we were surely unlikely to be offered too many generous bids to choose from.
So I'll just trust RM's judgement and hope he remains an effective voice, and thank him again for putting a great club back on the football map to the extent that a whole generation of young supporters nationwide now seem to think of us as a "big club", not words readily associated with us during those awful days in exile. Fingers crossed...

Some people are never happy on here, perhaps Admin & a Ten Point deduction would be better next year rather than be taken over, thats where we were heading I'm afraid.
[cite]Posted By: coltsgoalie[/cite]Os it just me that when i hear the word consortium i think of only fools and horses and the consortium to buy the gold chains
I agree lets be a bit more up beat about this news because rm has refused bids in the past for a reason but has accepted this one so let's see this as a positive move!! That brings some Xmas joy
Great News, for me if Varney is fronting and Murray is willing to sell the club is because, 1. its in the best interest of the club 2. there will be more cash (more than Murray can bring up anyhow).

My thoughts exactly.
a hobby perhaps? when people talk about winning the lottery they say id buy shares in a football club etc could be the case here. group of blokes got loads of dough and looking for ways to spend it. who knows....
Everyone is now asking who in their right mind would buy a football club ? There are still Countries like China and The Arab States where money is available, look at tiny Qutar securing the World Cup for 2022with no football pedigree whatsoever, this makes me ask " why did they want it ". Consequently I am not writing off serious financial clout. The question is what are Murray and Varneys thoughts about the nationality of new owners ? It seems to me that Varney has very single mindingly approached a takeover with the best interests of the Club at heart, and frankly we have to place our trust in two men who we know to be Addicks through and through. Therefore it's time to show our excitement when supporting the team, and let that excitement spur them into producing results. Lets all go forward as one, onwards and upwards.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani is our financial backer - FACT.
He wants to be a face in English and International football well in advance of the 2022 World Cup and he plans for us to be a top 3 side in the Qatar Airways English Premiership. He is also a back-room adviser to Zabeel Investments.
Can somebody comment on the above - i like the sound of it - if you can't beat em join em. Top 3 will do me. Normally by now, somebody would have dismissed it as nonsense so i can only assume we're about to go 'cosmic'.

Finances? .. structure your companies in the right way and a football club is a good loss leader against tax on profits from your 'real' business interests. You own Redrobin Supermarkets and make a profilt of (say ) £30 million on which you owe tax of (say) £5 million. CAFC which you also own makes a loss of (say) £2 million. The CAFC loss will be offset against your tax liability. So you have the prestige of owning a football club which owns a large property in London (the Valley), you can entertain your business contacts, rub shoulders with professional sportsmen, impress your staff and a lot of lovely young ladies, get brand loyalty from the loyal fans who will buy from Redrobin supermarkets and rrs.com.uk online, hire and fire as many managers as you feel like and the taxpayer helps you pay for it all. Think .. why does Mandarich continually buy only skint clubs? .. tax reasons.
Either do the above or register your companies in Zug, Switzerland in which case no-one will ever know your business dealings.

Interestingly enough - when someone was doing some digging a short while ago I'm sure there was something based in Qatar that was rumoured
alternatively 2+2=5 and it's a completely unfounded rumour
you decide :-)
