+++USER POLL - PARKINSON'S FUTURE+++

  • Parky was going to get the job based on results o wins in 8 he should never have got the post, so on that his job is safe
  • It's all very well saying we don't have the cash to sack him and pay up his contract. But as we've seen already, if we keep relying on that excuse/mentality then we just keep getting further into trouble and are ultimately worth less. My opinion is that the board need to stick up another £1m on top of the 7-15 they keep pumping in every year to keep us afloat in order to attract a better manager. The alternative is for us to keep reducing in value whilst we let a manager learn his trade. I know it's easy for me to say but imo it depends how much Murray wants to club to be worth something when he finds a buyer.
  • If and it's a big big if there is any any milage in Muttley and his investment /takeover info then I doubt Mr.Murray will be too interested in any move that might cost either him or any potential buyer money.
  • I am with option 2, although I'd stretch it to the next four league games, where we are up against the main/current promotion contenders that will really test what parky's got in his locker to turn around this seriously flagging side. Previously, I would have gone with option 3 if we had looked like we were close to getting it sorted on the pitch, but saturday's embarrassment has lowered my patience threshold!

Following pardews sacking, I was always of the opinion that a new broom was required and the whole first team management should have gone. I was initially stunned that parkinson had got the job permanently, but finances obviously dictated the decision and murray had to make what he thought was the best of a bad situation.

Murray has said he's gambling this season, what with the buyout and ploughing another £5m into the club to keep it running, but how much longer can he honestly afford to keep 'nice bloke' Phil in the hotseat? Maybe a new buyer will decide all that instead.
  • Should have gone with Pardew

Should have gone after his care taker role

    Should have gone after relegation

Should have gone after last years failuer

    HAS to go now.

should have made him take the huddersfield job, not give him a pay rise

    Just to ram it home

"Phil then called last night to say that Charlton had made him an unbelievable offer to stay at The Valley and he needed until this morning to decide."
  • Keep the faith
  • I've voted for 2 - 3 games to give him the final benefit of the doubt because I really have wanted him to succeed. But, this isn't a knee jerk response after Saturday's game. Quite frankly I've not seen anything in any of the games that tell me Parky can motivate and change our team to get to the level we need to get to. I think his approach to football is negative rather than positive and that will kill us. We need someone who has a positive approach, is forward thinking, understands Man Management and understands the intricacies of football tactics. Parky fails on all of these counts. I think the only thing he has done reasonably well is assembling a half decent squad with next to zero money. But, you also need to know how to manage these people and he just doesn't have it. Sorry.

Have been on holiday so I have missed the last 4-5 games (thank gawd by the sounds of it). Before I left I posted that I was prepared to give him another 5 games before becoming a fully flegged member of the PARKY OUT club. I never wanted him appointed after Pardew, never wanted him to stay on after getting us relegated, never wanted his contract extended, etc, etc, but did understand at least the argument that we needed to put in place some stability and was prepared to give him and the team my support on that basis. Unfortunately that hasn't happened in effect has it? We are actually far,far worse off since his initial appointment and continued presence aren't we, rather than having stopped the slide and are looking upwards? The bottom line is we might as well as stuck with Dowie, as I refuse to believe we'd be any worse off than we are now and the stability thing is just not working I afraid.

I can see no possible benefit in waiting any longer. So what if we win the next 2 games! We are just as likely to go on and lose 3 out of the next 5 after that and be back where we started. It's been nearly two years since his appointment, how much more time do we need to give him to justify the "stability" arguement? 3 years? 5 years? More? Why stop there, give him the job for as long as he wants it if you genuinely believe that giving a manager time is the key to success.

Sorry Phil but you've have a great opportunity and a fair chance and it just hasn't worked out.
  • [cite]Posted By: Rob[/cite] I think the only thing he has done reasonably well is assembling a half decent squad with next to zero money.

You know on paper, it's a pretty decent squad - albeit lacking depth. For that I credit Parky - he has gone down the route recruiting well-established, experienced pros with a track record at this level - I doubt in terms of appearnaces there is a more experienced first team at this level. If only Parky could get them playing together consistently - we have something to build upon. I hope for the sake of the club he does - but if 75% of the fans are willing to persevere for only a few more games, Murray has to be thinking long & hard about who will take over.

There has to be a breaking point, surely?

  • He's part of the regime of downward spiral.
But he's a nice bloke, unlike his boss, Mr. Pardont.

So let's make him the caretaker.
He doesn't win any of the matches.
The invisible chairman says the appointment will be "all about results."

They hire him as permanent boss anyway.
The team has its worst spell in club history
The club is relegated to the dregs of League 1.

He gets another chance in League 1.
The club finishes a win away from automatic promotion.
Where would a better manager have taken us, if he got us that close?
    We lose in the playoffs.

Longtime chairman & now new owner decides to bring him back for more.
Club sinks to its lowest ebb in 80+++ years.

    What would you do?
Can it be any more obvious???
    Well, can it???
  • He's got to go NOW.

    PARKINSON OUT
  • [cite]Posted By: RodneyCharltonTrotta[/cite]Clicked the wrong button. Put go now but meant christmas.

You were right the first time!
  • As many others have said, should have gone 2 seasons ago. Was given a trial, failed and failed ever since.

Nice bloke, some decent transfer dealings (and some awful ones, but so did Curbs and Sir drops the odd clanger, too), but can't make a silk purse out of silk. Sorely exposed when up against managers with the X Factor like Poyet.
  • [cite]Posted By: Mortimerician[/cite]some decent transfer dealings
Fortunately. There is the argument in 08/09 Parky was left with an unbalanced squad, little quality up front, some players here with the wrong attitude stuck on long contracts, squad low on confidence with a losing mentality etc.

If a new manager does come in we do have a decent and pretty balanced squad for this league with players that want to be here.

Jesus christ almighty TK are you and oohah the same man or something??
  • some people refuse to see things that don't suit the parky was cheap shit that keeps getting drivelled out, dazzler21, so by repeating it people might be able to get it into their skulls that maybe he wasn't so cheap
  • 170 out of 234

want rid 73% of the fan base on here as a business you would look at sites like this to gauge your customer base feelings

someone do the right thing for f sake
  • He has to go now. He's had long enough. I don't understand what the next 2-3 games actually mean in comparison to the last 2 years?

He's not up to the job. In any other industry he'd have been out now posting the worst results in the companies' history, I couldn't see any other board keepign him on.
  • nla that is only on the premise that we don't win the next three, if by some miracle we manage to win then 70% want him to stay...

so if we win the next 3 and then lose the next 3 what would the overwhelming feeling be though mate.

we all can see where the poll is edging towards,

a week ago i stated that it was too soon he should be give atleast 4 more games, then brighton happend and i am in the do it now camp

what if we lose saturday does it become 2 more games then if we lose again 1 more.

what the poll says is that 70+% are now really questioning the man and his ability to lead us 1,2 or 3 games wont prove a thing.

he will be so cautious saturday not to get beat that the creativity we are looking for wont happen, we will nick a draw or a 1 nil loss
  • I agree mate, I voted the 2/3 games option myself.

In this league 2/3 wins could see us quite easily 3rd or 4th - it's a strange league. I'm just glad I don't need to make the decision.
  • A decent amount of votes on this, good to see. I think he should be given a few games and that should let us see if the players want him to stay as well.

One thing there is no option for Parky to stay at least until the end of the season, would be funny as it would have garnered no votes
  • He has to roll the dice and go for wins. I think his main problem is that he is too cautious and a bit to ridgid in his ways. He might have to set up a bit differently - maybe Reid being injured is an opportunity as the whole point of having 2 wingers is to create chances which is something we don't seem to do. Maybe we need to look a flooding the midfield more. One thing I think about this league is that if you set up to frustrate opponents they will give you chances- especially if you have a bit of pace in the team to unsettle defenders. Not necessarily the beautiful game but when we try to play that we can't string the requisite number of passes together or find a team better at it than us.

Anyinsah has to start on Saturday and maybe we should try Waggy and Martin playing just behind him as part of a front 3. Then have Semedo as a defensive midfielder, Racon as an offensive one and have Jackson and McCormack battling in the middle. Defensively possibly Francis, Doc, Dailly and Fry. Worth a go IMO. Benson on bench to come on if required.

This may not be the answer but definitely is trying to solve the problems - my major criticism of Parky is that he hasn't done anything to try to address the key issues save like for like changes in personnel. The problem is the team doesn't create enough and is always good for a defensive error or 2.
  • The real problem is that the team is Jekyll and Hyde. Decent 45 mins here and there. Some wins. Certainly not going to get promotion but perhaps enough not to get PP the sack. A draw at Carlisle and a home win against Sheff Wed are not beyond the realms of possibility. I think this could drag on as we stumble between bad performances and new dawns. For my money he has to go now.
  • Yes but the last 2 decent 45 minutes where when we were behind following 2 abject 45 minutes. It sort of reaffirms that we are too negative as when we need to chase a game we can exert pressure. I believe the main reason we are so negative is that we know it is hard to score a goal - we need to get in a position where we know we will get goals- it will take the pressure of the defenders and things will then change. I think there is enough ability in the team but the formula hasn't been found and Parky has been hoping it will come rather than look at it. If you look at our wins this season, we haven't really won those games decisively (even Orient where we were decent to be fair) where as we have been beaten decisively by Brighton and Huddersfield and out played by Notts County and Brentford killed us in the first half. If you have the talent then something else has to be wrong - you don't carry on regardless. Does Parky have the flair to change things - that is my question. If he has got 2 games, he might as well try something you would have thought.
  • havent been on here since saturday as dreading it, lol we got a poll and everything!

right i have gone for stay till christmas, mainly i dont think that anyone coming in can do much better especially when they have the same players etc, the team looks ok(wasnt there on saturday) but prior to that were looking better even if was just for the one half i see promise. The team are potentially much better and should gelling, if by christmas we are out of playoffs would bring someone in
  • Dont think someonecoming in could do much better ????? So if Wenger or Mourinho came we would still be this bad ? It's all about coaching and PP is not up to it.

Er, we are out of the play offs now johnnybev! I don't think we are going to get back in them within that timescale with the games we have coming up! If you had been there on Saturday you would have seen exactly where we are in terms of the team gelling: Nowhere!
  • Ok well for starters at least half probably thought we would lose its just the nature of the beating which has got this reaction, before then we were still only 3 points of automatic promotion and everyone will get points of everyone this year

Shooters obviously if mr wenger or mourinho was available it would be different but i dont think anyone of note is available and im sure parky knows more about the players then any that would be coming in at the mo. As for the curbs suggestion i personally think that would be a backward step for both the club and curbs not gonna happen anyway

sorry dont mean to be optimistic, personally unsure wheter we will be in play offs come xmas. but i think then is a good time to fire someone bring someone in, that way they would be able to look at the deadwood and maybe do something in the transfer window. although the squad should be good enough to be challenging so can understand why parky is getting alot of flak i half agree half dont just think we should give till xmas to come to a decision i doubt we're be worse off
