[cite]Posted By: EGAddick[/cite]Have to catch up with a beer soon mate.

Definitely mate - are you going Peterborough? It's about time I started being more drunk if I have to put up with that every week.

To be fair there was so much wrong in so many different departments today I think this post-mortem is going to be epic. When things are bad, different things make a big impression on people and they get the arse with particular things other people might not have been so fixated by. Mr Doherty was definitely one of those for me today.

Yep and Southend as well, hopefully we'll get a good draw in the FA Cup and it'll be a decent week.

I'll give you a text closer the time then, you getting the train to both?

[cite]Posted By: EastStand[/cite]Christ on a bike... My friend has had a season ticket for 15 years. The Dagenahm game was the first time he has ever left before the end of the game. Today was the second. I mean really... We are so much better than this. Even now, even this team with this management... We are still better than THIS.

I keep looking at the team sheet - we've got the players - why can't the management get them playing together?

Because they haven't got a fucking clue.

Not one attempt to change things at any stage of the game. No obvious instruction to close Brighton down, especially at the back. No clarity of role for Racon or Martin. No thought of dealing with Brighton's greater numbers in midfield by playing three-at-the-back ourselves.

    Absolutely woeful.

And where are the 'Red faces for the anti-Benson brigade' jokers now? The guy is Sunday League.

And if Doherty is League 1 standard, I am next in line to the throne. Funny how I spotted that he would be a liability for us at the Watford pre-season friendly. But perhaps he just needs time to 'gel'.

I know we've had dark times, but losing 0-4 at home in League 1 to an effective, but frankly ordinary side must represent close to an all-time low point.

Never mind though. Parkinson is a nice chap.

Yesterday I attended the funeral of my oldest mates mum - a close family friend I had known for something like 35 years. Having to witness my mate and his kids - and also my parents - go through all that was truly truly dreadful.

Watching that shambolic bollocks today has not made me feel one bit better. Christ, it's supposed to be entertainment isn't it? Can't remember the last time I went down there thinking that I was looking forward to being entertained. I always go dreading the worst, and today we got it. Dreadful.

This absolute mess just keeps getting worse and worse and it sickens me. Jesus, is it ever going to end? I fear it may all now only end one way - I hope I'm wrong.
  • Just seen the goals on SSN, all of the goals were pretty disastorious and totally avoidable but their 2nd goal, I actually started laughing watching it. They had 3 or 4 phases to clear it. Doherty doesn't seem to have the concentration to arrange things at the back, think we needd Dailly back in the middle.
  • Thats the worst thing whilst Brighton passed the ball around nicely they didn't really threaten -nall the goals were down to unforced defensive errors (well the first 3 were - for the first time in a while I left after the 3rd went in)

Very sorry to hear that, Off-it.

Although there is no comparsion in the significance of the two losses, it sounds like you have had the horrible misfortune to attend two funerals in the course of 48 hours.

As you say, an absolute mess that just keeps on getting worse.

All we need is now is some joker coming along to tell us 'what's the problem, we'e still 14th and ony three points off the play-offs''.

Still, miracles do happen. There's a headline on BBC Sport saying ''Wernger agrees with red card'' - and believe it or not, he's talking about one of his own players. So that just proves that in football anything is possible!
  • What everyone else said PLUS; we have two non-shooting centre mids. We need a strong attacking midfielder who is not afraid to have the odd 25 yarder every once in a while. Racon frustrates the hell out of me, he had numerous chances to shoot today but laid it off every time.

Also, do we actually bother to watch our opponents prior to playing them? I only ask as everyone in the country must've seen Lualua's strike v Bournemouth last week but obviously the coaching staff didn't bother to remind our defenders to close him, down resulting in the inevitable and the 3rd goal ensued.

In the first half we kept leaving Elliot Bennett free on the edge of the box at corners- didn't any of our players notice he had nobody within 20 yards of him? Eventually the time and space we gave him allowed him to start the move which led to the first goal- criminal.

I would say that the period leading up to the end of the first half was better and Abbot's header was close- but that was about it.

Finally- anybody want a ticket for Carlisle?
  • It became very apparent after 10 minutes when the Brighton fans started shouting: Olé that a very confident Brighton team had the measure of Charlton.

Along with my freind we were counting the passes that Brighton strung together, 20, 24, and so on, Charlton when they did manage to get the ball, overhit ,and lost retention to a decent side, but one that was simply well organised and closed us down.

As the game went on things just got worse, and when Reid got injured, and Martin fizzled out! you just wondered where the goals were going to come from!

Despite Poyet's over the top remarkes that his team were were " nearly close to perfection", quite what he regards as perfection is open to some debate!

Quite simply we made them look good!, very good to be fair.

As others have posted, this is about enjoyment, and the reaction of the fans seemed to boil over after the 4th goal, and that was the ones that bothered to stay!.

I stood, rather shell shocked that we could be outplayed by a decent team in this divison, no more, no less, well organised and outplaying us!

I thought against the better teams we could compete!, at least in this very average at best league........ Oh how I was proved wrong this afternoon!
  • I get very cross with calls for yet another manager! Do we not remember those years under Curbs that went on for ever with dire football! Eventually we found a team and we won promotion. We came straight back down but as the team stayed together we got back again into the premiership.

It was inevitable that our fall out of the premiership led to further relegation. The truth is that it will take us a few years to find our way back out of this league. I feel Parky needs to be given a few years both to learn what he has to do as well as build the right team.

For 30 minutes we played good football and it was refreshing to see two teams playing football rather than the very physical and direct stuff that passes for football in this league.

Our goals today came from errors that any footballer can make. Just watch match of the day today to watch first division players making terrible mistakes.

I will never boo my team whatever. I will never - and have never- walked out early from a game. I admit to feeling today the same as i did when we took that spanking from leeds in the premiership. I was shocked and disappointed. But we pick ourselves up, get behind our team, cheer them on and play the next team ! Thats what being a charlton fan is all about
  • we'll be playing in league two with another half a dozen more "performances" like that this season

  • It gives me no pleasure to say I predicted 0-3 forcing the departure of Parky.

Brighton were the best footballing side I saw at the Valley last season and I thought they were superb today.

    Brazil v Ebbsfleet reserves.

That was the gulf in class today.

Any manager who thought for one moment that Abbott and Costello might be worthy successors to Horsfield, Powell, Hales, Mendonca and Bent
needs to quietly reach for his coat.

    Lets move on...
  • scouting of the opposition is clearly an issue. Lua Luas goal today was predictbale, exact same routine as his goal against Bournemouth. If they had watched Brightons last few games they would have seen that coming.

Also marking from corners is a joke. Not leaving one player up there and leaving bennet unmarked all the time.
  • ISawLeaburnScore post no. 38 has said everything i wanted to say. Agree totally.

I can't see any way out of this unless we change the management team.

I will never boo my team whatever

I agree, old chap. Me neither. But I don't beat my chest and crow about it.

That just happens to be the buttoned-up, borgeouis Englishman that my comfortable middle-class, over-polite upbringing turned me into.

I don't condemn or blame those fans who are able to make their displeasure known more vocally than I am able to do.

Nor does Parky. This is what he said after today's game : ''The fans booed and you can't blame them.”
  • why did fortune get subbed off ?
  • essexfan

Parkie does not have years, he is at the end of his contract and if he does not get promotion it won't be renewed, if we don't get promotion then we will have lost the buffer that Richard Murrays buy out brought us and I fear we will need to reduce the wage bill further.

I have left one game early in my 40 years of supporting charlton and I missed what I htink was Mendoncas first goal for charlton (Ipdwich away league cup 1-3).

I want Parkinson to succeed, I don't want another manager nor do I have an idea who another manager that we could afford wouldbe, but the next four games are critical for this season and we could easily come out with 0 points and then I would see no future option for Parkie.
  • Not often I say my piece on here as I am not keen on negativity but now I am sad to say that Parky has to go. There are very basic mistakes happening on that pitch; week in week out that a sunday league team would have put right by now. Why buy a striker [Benson] who is known to thrieve and score on a certain way of playing and then play a different system?? Why cant our wingers cross the ball (might be a good idea to practice this art) etc etc bla bla bla.....I've had enough. I will always support Charlton and will always be there but this is now getting painful. Im starting to think I've watch better football on sunday mornings from players that are still pissed from the night before. Goodnight.

To put Dailly in the middle, the real question, why Fortune and not doherty

[cite]Posted By: Saga Lout[/cite] I keep looking at the team sheet - we've got the players - why can't the management get them playing together?
They can but not for 90 minutes and therein lies the problem. First half we were at least as good as Brighton even though we went in 1-0 down.
Parky's quote from the post match conference on the OS: 'Brighton surprised us by playing a diamond [formation] in midfield, but for all their possession they had, it didn't really hurt us too much [in the first half].'
Surprised them? So maybe he thought we'd be alright - and is why he didn't appear to do anything about it in the second half - astounding...

Absolutely shocking statement from a real no mark manager.

  • No plan B. Poyet's press conference points about switching the tactics to keep the opposition guessing show how a good manager works. Very sad that we have come to this. It's been apparent to me that Parky teams lack a plan B since his caretaker period, but I'm hoping that a few of his more vehment supporters will understand this after he's basically admitted it in a press conference.
  • Few observations
OFF IT sorry to hear of your friends and yours sad news.

As much as it hurts to say, I am starting to wonder if our board ever had any footballing nouse.Did they get lucky with curbs ? Because every managerial decision since has been shite. Was our past success down to curbs expertise as opposed to the board ? Yes they supported us financially but it's a bit easier when we are doing well. I feel for them now as I'm scared of where this is leading we are shocking.

WSS you had too much to drink Benson had the evivident to a golfers air shot when he tried to clear a header for their first goal it was a air shot feckin shockin, he that muppett had left 1 up front it would never had happened. Benson was shit as was Rothko's whipping stick ABBOTT
  • Really really poor. First 20 minutes we did ok, after that we were made to look bad. When you have a right old clogger like Greer at the back for them thinking he is Franz Beckanbauer you know who are in trouble.

How far do we have to go down before someone in within the club does something about it?
  • Peterborough also let in 4 at home today

    Thing was, they scored 5.

    here endeth the lesson.
  • I'm still willing to give Parky a few more games before I say it's time to move on. A week and a half ago we came back and beat MK and then again last week we came from goals down vs Plymouth we're normally consistent at only winning or losing by the odd goal, today was a bad day and I hope we won't be repeating it again anytime soon.

Still not sure on Abbott plenty of appearances now and no goals in the league. Benson has at least scored important goals in the last few weeks. Would start Aynisah against his old club next week when he'll score ;-)
  • agree re: give it a few more games

looking for a reaction from players now
  • The bit that sums up the game today for me was watching Daily running down the wing using his "pace".
  • Still in shock at quite how poor Brighton made us look at times.

Seeing as Poyet basically copied the tactics of Glenn Hoddle, from the passing out of the back four, to the Hoddle (Kishishev) role, to the formation you do wonder if the nutcase is actually in the coaching line up.

A total lesson in keeping the ball, counter attacking, finishing, defending (how good was their number 6), unity, fans support etc etc.

A mixture of bad day at the office - Jackson, Doherty, Semedo, Racon, Martin, Abbott and Benson were dreadful and coming up against a very good side in form.

Personally wouldn't sack the manager, I am not even half way towards the anger I had at Pardew but can understand the fans anger yesterday, good on the old fella having a pop, least it shows the passion some of us have.

Pray that Reid is ok and thank myself lucky Southend is the next game for me and I will be too drunk to focus.

I'm probably in the category of vehement supporter. I very much like Parky and feel that he hasn't deserved many of the spiteful things that have been said. That doesn't mean that I haven't understood that he's a rather poor manager or that things have gone tragically wrong. I would have preferred a clean sweep when Pardew got the push, but accepted the explanation that Parky was cheap and that we didn't have the money to get anyone else. So I just got in with supporting as best I could. I thought that the board was responsible for the post Curbs managerial mistakes, but I didn't see what I could do about it other than hope that it would learn from its many mistakes. So now we are at yet another defining moment. Can we afford to sack Parky plus entire set up, can we afford not to? It's Richard Murray's call, and yet again, I'll just get on with supporting as best my battered heart allows. But please don't expect me to have a go at Parky, because I believe that he has genuinely done the best that he was capable of.
  • I've said it before most of our current players ,are to be polite, either past it or tecnically poor.We have to blood new youngsters now. This is the only option for a nomoney club
like we are at present. We need a high injection of pace and agility at the back.
I know this would require a lot more patience from long suffering fans but this season should be about youngsters breaking in and us not going down.If the club decides on this course then we would need a manager that has vast experience with youngsters.
The two overiding facts of yesterday were the nearly 19000 attendance and our Academy win at Arsenal.
    Strong Base and Strong Future.
Be patient and lets build a proper team.
