[cite]Posted By: Zinedine Bagheri[/cite]In my opinion there may still be a question mark above Akpo who contributed nothing during his cameo.
We wouldn't have got the third goal if it wasn't for Akpo releasing Waggy. Let's get off his back, shall we?!
I'm hardly on his back by saying that there may be a question mark above Akpo. Yes he made a very simple pass to Waggy and we went on to score from it (due to Waggy's brilliance more than Akpo's vision) but overall in his 10mins found it hard to get in the game and gave the ball away too much. I'm not having a go at him, thought he did well against Bournemouth, but just didn't take the pressure off the team enough when he replaced Abbot.
imo thats a vary fair assesment of Akpo's performance and isnt 'on his back' at all.
I thought he did take the pressure off. He moved their defence back towards their own goal and when he had a chance he closed down. What he didn't do was drop deep to do that as that would have allowed them to push up even more.
The ball to waggy was clever link up play. because he held the ball Waggy could move up and get close to him to play a few passes to feet and the two of them did that a few times.
I don't think Sodje was helped that the other players were, understandably, knackered when he came on. ie Martin twice tried to play a diagonal ball from right back position over the top for Sodje to run onto (Akpo was already spinning away) but the balls were too low and were easily cut out. Not a go at Martin who had worked his socks off by then and can be excused not quite getting the elevation he wanted. He did have the vision to see the opportunity.
Akpo is a limited player but he is a decent one for this level. He, Abbott and Martin plus the other striker we're meant to be signing sometime will bring different things to the side at different times.
