  • [cite]Posted By: RedArmySE7[/cite]Not being bullied is a good point, Dailly, Doherty, McCormack, Semedo, Abbott and Sodje will take no nonsense.

This is the mosy physical looking Charlton side I've seen for some time and I presume that's a deliberate statement that we won't be intimidated this season.
  • What a band of brothers, what a team of heroes, what fighting spirit. We will fight them on th---------------sorry, getting carried away there!
Wonderful game, great team and well done to Parky, brilliant!
  • SPIRIT

    WE'VE GOT SPIRIT AND FIGHT!

I hope it continues, looks like the players we have brought it will fight for the cause.

The Doc is my kind of player. Abbott is passionate. Waggy & Solly was emotional
  • What a cracking game. I scared half the pub when our last one went in going absolutely mental. Hard to build a game atmosphere when the sound is muted and they're all listening to some 80s pop music in the pub, but Charlton managed to make it feel like a game! Dailly's sending off deserved - maybe he gave two reds to him as he should've probably be sent off for the handball in the first half? Either way, we were superb today. And that second goal - absolute quality.
  • Thought we'd lose because it's too early in our season. I was well wrong. Great result

Haha .......... exactly the same in my local pub, Nelse. And of course, living in a Cornish village I'm the only Addick there.
But when Solly rammed home our 3rd, I silenced the whole pub after I bellowed out, YESSSS!!!!!

Got my leg pulled for that ...... and I'd already taken loads of pisstaking when Orient equalised and Dailly sent off.
Effin' Man Yoo and Chel$ki plastics!
  • Away on holiday, so had to watch on Sky. Really enjoyable game for me. Team spirit shone through - credit to Parkinson and the coaching staff for that.

Without going over the top, is it not enjoyable to watch an honest game of football such as that compared to some of the shenanigans that were served up at the World Cup?

Well played Charlton and thanks to both teams for restoring my faith in this great game of ours.
  • Well, great great stuff. Big credit to McCormack who did a brilliant box to box job and capped it with a great goal, Francis who slotted in well at RB, he's a big bloke and has presence, top quality cross for the first. Dailly and Doc were calm, Jackson clever and the quality on the left. Waggy had a brilliant second half, not sure about his first half performance though. As for the front two, for £30,000, Abbott is a steal, proper centre forward, his hold up play when we were down to 10 was high quality, and Martin put the mother of shifts in.

Good subs from Parky, well done Solly for the goal, great run for the goal.

All in all, a great night, and we've got a team with a lot of guts and spirit.
  • Just got in.

    What Rothko said.

Add a couple more bodies and get Youga fit and all of a sudden things look rosey.
  • Parky has gone and got us a team of proper Division 3 players to finally do a real job . Now we just need a few more such players as cover.

extremely impressed with todays performance, i was very happy with everything from selection to playing style (although they did kick and chase a bit much which doesn't suit pawel abbott) but everyone performed brilliantly, ref was harsh giving Dailly the red, it looked like both men were at fault so it was a tad harsh.
Lee Martin again impressed with his flair, he is a bit of a lightweight but he wont give up and i must say i have taken to him recently. Abbott repeatedly threatened their defence, his only downfall being a bit heavy on his feet. Reid as usual gave Omusuzi an extremely hard time and it was a pleasure seeing Omusuzi struggle :) Elliot was fantastic, especially after dailly had gone, it seemed that llera wasnt really listening to him but he made himself loud, clear and got the ball or got it away from the goal. best away game i've seen in a long time tbh :)

I think that's exactly it. Last season we basically had a bunch of failed championship players. That doesn't automatically make them suitable as div three players.

As JM says, this time around Parky seems to have assembled a well-judged set of horses for courses. If we get promoted, some of them for various reasons probably won't cut it in a higher division. But at the moment, that's not an issue, is it?
  • just got back.

Great night in the stands. Thats what I go to games for.

So pleased for waggy. Has to take motm but mccormack was immense.

We werent great but we were the better side and we only HAD TEN MEN
  • Good result in adversity, and Waggy was superb.
  • Most spirited display in a long time. I thought Doherty, Llera, McCormack, Waggy and Martin were exceptional.
  • not worried about llera and doc pairing up for the oldham match , after both of their performences tonight
  • Very pleased with Racon too, didn't think he'd have that kinda performance in him, but if we can do that week in, week out, we have potentially the best CM partnership in the league with him and Semedo.
  • A game that I wished I called in sick to work for and gone (had to do the late turn and start at half-nineb this eve).

It's early days, but with this spirit- and to hold our heads up and go on to score another with ten men, and with no Millwall and Leeds- then you never know...

We. Might. Just. Do. It. This. Year.
  • Relieved to learn that Daily's red was the result of a 2nd yellow. I could have sworn it was a straight red (following a yellow for his handball) so would miss 3 games.

One match ban if that's the case.

    Great night.
  • Literally have not enjoyed a game since.... I honestly can't remember.

I was actually quite emotional at the end - just simply due to the spirit of the team performance, the camaraderie, the fight for the cause, our fans, and the reaction at the end.

We've all had a little wobble at times thinking we *might* be getting our Charlton back, but deep down knowing that that wasn't the case. But after tonight's display *touch wood*, I think we could be...

McCormack, Llera, Abbott, and WAGSTAFF - Their performances made me so proud to support Charlton. After literally 5 years plus of mostly abject drivel from overpaid wasters, tonight was like falling back in love with my club after what seemed like ages.

Also well done Parky for subbing Reid - he was very mediocre. Scott Wagstaff was hard working and immense - his folks were in the stand - must have been so proud.

Wish we could play there every week simply for the sound of us at full voice in that shed.

CAFC FOR LIFE!! VERY VERY HAPPY!!!

  • Today, after 3 months of torture, we exchanged on the purchase of our dream home. Then, we win 3-1 away with 10 men with 3 goals of pure quality. I wish it could be Friday 13th every day!! Well pleased with that. That looked to me like a team that played with a spirit instilled by the manager. We might just have something here you know...
  • We may have lost some qualities from last season, but they are massively overshadowed by those we've gained. Tonight we had spirit, we had passion and we had the desire, added to that some clinical finishing and excellent build-up play, and we had the perfect recipe for footballing success. And all the praise is given to PP, he's made his own team and they are looking hungry.
Im not going to get carried away, we're only two(important) games in, and i know there will be more disappointing times again this season, but im confident we will improve on what we achieved last season with what i thought was a very capable squad.
1 step back, and 2 steps forward.
    Bring on the 10/11 season.

But for all addicks, this isnt a season long commitment, we can't lose interest or lose passion, sure we'll lose expectations along with numerous games in the third tier of the marvellous english football system, but we'll never lose faith, or the unbriddled love and pride we have in supporting OUR unique team.

    Phil Parkys Red Armyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
  • that is IMO the blueprint for how a team should perform when down to 10 men. defend deep and narrow, stop the supply, get blocks in and close down. then spring on the counter- no pun intended :D. martin. it wasnt perfect, but it was about as good as we could have hoped for. one of the best performances i have seen charlton put in since Curbs
  • nice to see Llera getting the credit he deserves, excellant when he came on. Francis for Solly. Why ? Francis was the weak link imo, poor possionally and passing. Jackson quiet but solid. The Doc outstanding. Waggy at last showed what he can do, great finish and great set-up. Martin was outstanding, so impressed with his workrate, as with Pavel. Racon ok, we miss Semedo, and McCormack very good too. Reidy done ok. Should have had a pen when Martin was hauled down.

Negatives : have you ever seen a worse sub appearance than Akpo's ? The bench was very lightweight, need a couple of signings to bolster the squad.
  • I've not seen anything of this match so am limited in what I can say.

However it has to be encouraging when a Charlton team with 10 men can not only maintain level terms but actually go on and win the match.

Good to see the names of McCormack, Wagstaff and Solly on the scoresheet for different reasons especially Waggy. I felt some of the criticism he took after Bournemouth was ott in that he was helping Solly out much of the time. Good to read contrasting views now.
  • Overall we were in control up until the sending of, then had to withstand some heavy pressure but coped well and a couple of nice counters to seal the deal
Very pleased with our defence at the moment, only additions needed up front imo, everyones playing for each other so keep it up boys 10 men in both games and still won both that says alot for their character

    UP THE ADDICKS!!!
  • I can't have been the only one who was shocked to see Solly making a late run up the left wing in the 94th minute! What was he doing over there!? Glad he was, though!

Great performance. Parky's signed league one players that know the effort required to win games at this level - not championship players who feel they're above it and aren't willing to run their legs off. Especially impressed with McCormack's tenacity. You can see he wants to grab that midfield by the scruff of the neck and will do so more effectively than Bailey, who would shy away, ever did.

I watched it on Sky+ & am so glad i did'nt cheat. What a cracking game!

The last time i remember watching us on the tv playing that well was a midweek game in the Prem. We have quite literally been pants on the tv since.

The most amazing thing though, we played like a team who want to win for each other. And what about our Valley Gold boys??? Worth every penny that goal. I felt so proud when that goal went in, like i'd helped make it!!??!!

We are clearly not going to get any help from the officials. So we need steady heads.

Am a happy, coifured bunny xxxxx
