[cite]Posted By: Fanny Fanackapan[/cite]to thoroughly enjoy watching the performance again in front of the TV with a pot of tea & a packet of choc digestives...Really know how to celebrate !!!
ha ha me and my nephew settled down for the re-run (fast forward to the good bits) with chicken kebab and chips and cookies and cream haagen dazs ..... beautiful way to finish a great evening!
First time I've seen a Charlton side truly prepared to fight since the Curbishley era. We will get players sent off this season playing this way, but being physical didn't hurt Scumwall last season did it?
Just wanted to add that we had 2 smashing young Addicks sitting behind us last night who were most concerned when I got flattened by a "friend" when our second goal went in. Saw stars for a minute or two ( apart from those in blue shirts) & am nursing a bump on the back of my bonce.
Lovely lads - it was a pleasure to make their acquaintance.
One thing that struck me when the third goal went in was the whole of the bench, physios etc. were jumping about celebrating the win. Hopefully a sign of unity within the club.
Haven't been able to get to the two games and don't possess Sky now.
I was a critic of the permanent appointment of Parky after Pardew because I just felt heis record was poor. That said he may have been the only financially realistic choice at the time.
Last season he earned for me (just) the chance to continue although again I think finances dictated things to a large extent.
I am based in Norwich and am well aware of the Doc and the fact that he was their POTY despite being told by Lambert when he came that he wasn't in his plans. To me that speaks massively as to his character. He is a great signing.
Clearly Parky has worked the oracle with other sgnings as well. This bodes well imho.
We must now get behind him and stop sniping. No manager gets everything right but he is getting more right than wrong. I have heard on good authority as well that he is specifically looking at players who want to play and have something more to prove/offer, rather than a name who just wants to know what his contract terms will be. He may not be Curbs, but he is closer to Curbs than any manager we have had since he left. That is more reason to be satisfied.
Great result last night and the blend of youth and experience is doing it for us.
Oh and finally, I have been offered a Docherty signed Norwich shirt with his name on the back. If anybody is interested whisper me and I contact the chap. I don't know what he wants for it but I'll find out.

COYR CTID!
Sorry to nit pick but The Doc came 3rd in their player of the year poll. Holt 1st, Hoolahan 2nd.
Great night, good performance, good atmosphere in the pub and the ground even if the numbers should have been better, took an Arsenal mate and he is hooked, told him we dont always stand and sing for 90 mins, not sure the same support will be seen at Huddersfield.
Watched the game on Sky. Great win, but hopefully more to come from this team as they play more games together (and keep 11 men on the pitch!). Agree with Henry and AFKA we had spirit, determination etc last year, maybe not enough in certain games, but it was there last year. Richardson, Bailey, Shelvey, Burton etc all worked hard like their replacements did.
Francis did ok but I think he'll get better. Great cross from deep with his weaker foot for McCormack's goal. He got a good number of assists for Southend last season and he will hopefully for us. Thought the 3 centre backs were all generally solid. Jackson did his job.
Hopefully Wagstaff is going to keep improving, great to see him not only score but set up a goal as well. Like others mentioned when I saw Reid was the player taken off I wasn't sure, but looking back you can see what Parky was thinking. Not just the goals, but Wagstaff is one of our fittest players, with 10 men he's a player that can keep running until the end. Reid unfortunately usually tires, much like Sam did. Reid did ok but can do so much more, fair enough he can't play well every week. If Sam had played like that he'd be criticized for it, despite it not being a poor performance, just not a particularly good one.
McCormack is doing well, I know more than a few had doubts, don't think many will now. He seems to have that big more aggression than Bailey and so far is quite tidy with his passing like Spring was for us. He's a good option in this league. Racon another that did ok but didn't stand out.
A week ago one of the questions was could Martin score and/or create goals to go with the tricks. A week later he's set up 2 and scored 1, so it's a great start for him. I'm happy with Abbott, and much like the team, there's more to come from him in the league, as he showed against Shrewsbury.
Great to see Solly score, will be involved more often this season even if a lot of the time it's just off the bench. As I said I'm sure Francis will get better, he'll have to if he is going to keep his place.
Still need at least a couple of signings, a winger and a striker, as I think someone else mentioned the bench wasn't looking too strong.
Said to my mate when Reid came off that it was a good move by Parky as Waggy offers more on the break. But we do have to play to his strengths, not give him passes that have him back to goal. Perhaps he has to come in off the wing 5 yards to give a channel for the full-back to play the ball. Apart from the cross I thought Francis's distribution was poor, hopeful punts upfield, I trust he'll get better with more games. I'd dismissed Martin as a bit of a lightweight "show-pony" but he's run his socks off and looks dangerous. Finally Akpo, undeserved stick - apart from setting up a goal his other meaningful involvement in his short cameo was when he was on his own against three (tiring) defenders. He opted to push it past them and go after it it didn't come off. Couldn't see what more he could have done, he'd have been robbed if he waited for help.
Didnt see the game was at Crayford Dogs restaurant, was getting texts and updates on phone though. I had a stinker all night, did not win a thing, my bro called be well into stoppage time, I was expecting the usual message that they had equalised, but was I ever pleased to here him announce Solly had scored, all those around me in the restaurant jumped when I let out a 'GET INNNNN!!!'. Ill take losing £45 if it means we can win games like that!!!
Also I must echo what AFKA said re the negative Parky comments, I was a fierce critic of him, but said in a thread in close season that the guy shows passion and I would argue that he understands the 'Charlton Way'. Lets all back him %100, if you cant back him, keep you negativity to yourself. Well done to the whole club and all the Addicks that went to the game, brilliant stuff!!!
Brilliant team performance. Haven't enjoyed a game so much in years. Waggy answered all those people who keep saying he isn't good enough to start. Yes he is, and he needs to stay on for 90 + minutes because not only is he one of the fastest players, he is also one of the fittest and can suddenly spring into life with devastating effect. McCormack is going to become a Charlton hero, and Lee Martin is class. We now have what we were lacking last season, pace and skill in the forward line. Exciting times, but we still need more depth to the squad.
[cite] Large Addick [/cite] nice to see Llera getting the credit he deserves, excellant when he came on.
Agree he was a reassuring presence when he came on, winning everything in the air.
Nitpicking I know, but dominating a crowded box probably suits him a lot better than trying to cope with a nippy forward in space.
Got such a buzz from that result, trying not to get carried away.
Lovely to see us scoring goals and such a composed finish from Waggy.
So funny for the last goal when Spring just assumed Waggy would run the ball to the touchline only to be nutmegged and left for dead; and a lungbusting run by Solly to get on the end of it.
Martin looks class, and capable of unlocking doors for other players; full marks also for commitment to defensive cause.
Why not get carried away? Well for a start they outpassed us for a lot of the first half, albeit without threatening our goal.
Also thought our defence looked a little unconvincing until they were forced to tighten up following the sending off.
Still, great game and I can't wait for the next one - haven't felt like that for a while.
Saw the game on Sky. Yeah - a great game - two TEAMS with passion and belief. The first five minutes set the stage for a match with bite and the fact that the result really mattered.
Good solid defending and blood n' guts blocking. Energetic youngun's and superb skills for goals two and three.
"One for all and for one" type of team performance. Luvved it !
Just one point - the Gate - 5,500 ish.
The weather was crap and obviously the game was televised. Maybe Kids / family Holidays affected the attendance .....
But surely CAFC are the O's biggest draw ? Does this put their average gate this season at 3,000 of less ?

1600 Charlton there, so 3900 Orient. Yes I reckon the home gate will be 3500/4000 plus away support.
Random thoughts from last night.
Orient often opted for short corners and free kicks, they're not the tallest team granted, but that option also says something about the height we have now (anybody remember when we were all tiny... Bowman, Peacock, Robinson and so on?). We should command set plays, the only caveat is that Robbie will often punch more as he reaches ovet all the big blokes.
Even with half the turnout, the fans were as loud as last season.
Every member of the Charlton entourage came over and clapped the fans hard and long with obvious delight and appreciation, we must try to build on this now...could make for a special season if we do....I remember this kind of feeling away at Port Vale once...Gritty late equaliser....staff and fans as one...all there on business, all with the same hymn sheet.
Matt Spring is a decent bloke, but did you see how he even teed up for himself to put that ball on the roof, hmmmn.
I really enjoy Orient (and I was there at that abandoned match too!), a great away day, and I am fond of them as a club, clinging on limpet like in the shadow of West Ham and Spurs....I would love them to do a Blackpool!
Great game. A very special performance after Dailly was harshly sent off. Doc & Llera were superb, as were Martin & Waggy. Great defense & quick, intelligent counter attacking. I can't believe how some have slated Akpo. He was only on for 10 minutes or so and he offered himself well as the sole outlet from a deep defending team. And the 1-2 with Waggy on the touchline to set him clear for the 3rd goal was sublime. Did anyone else notice that Waggy & Solly, who are both very right footed, scored their goals with their left foot? That shows some confidence from the youngsters. Parky says that Solly was rested as he was feeling the effects of the Tuesday night game. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him start again on Saturday when we face up to top of the table Oldham, the only other team in the division to have 6 points. Early days yet but some excellent early signs. COYR!!
I think if memory serves me right Queensland that when he was youth team Captain, waggy was one of the fittest players at the club.I really like him and his interview afterwards showed his pride in playing for us.
Cockahoop! Really enjoyed the game, thought we looked great in the first ten minutes, went off the boil for the rest of the first half. I wwas concerned at the beginning of the second half, we were all over the shop and were there for the taking. Fortunately the response was top drawer and the goal superb. I must add that i thought orient were utter pony. However there was a dampener for me. I had a few quid on McCormack to score first and charlton to win 2-1 at 80-1 and was praying for for wagstaff to run that ball in the bloody corner!!!!
There was an electric atmosphere, a solid team spirit, and an excellent performance from the players. We really pulled together after Dailly's sending off and I think someone who worked particularly hard was Pawel Abbott, even if he wasn't as effective as others. He was dead on his feet when he was subbed off. Martin complements him well and once there's an understanding there, we have a very promising strike force.
Doherty stood out for me, throwing his frame in the way of everything goalbound, and McCormack did well as a stand-in captain; he scored and defended well too. Wagstaff had those two moments of magic; Reid looked a little less effective but wasn't bad. Racon did quite well in flashes but also made mistakes.
Francis and Jackson both looked solid rather than spectacular or awful; Francis however did provide for that first goal. Dailly looked okay, but on second thoughts it was indeed a two-yellow sending-off. Elliot played calmly and I was glad to see that; he did nothing wrong with the goal. Llera was an absolute beast when he came on, heading everything away. Akpo was not really, well, industrious, and shows our need for another striker. Solly, fair play, one touch and it's a goal!
The fans, and I'm proud to include myself here, were brilliant. The singing was pretty much non-stop, and by the end my voice was gone (still haven't recovered properly). Testament to us that we were applauded by the staff and players at the end.
All in all:
1) We need to gel as a team.
2) We need another forward, simple as, and perhaps a left-back (more as solid cover than a starter - Youga).
3) The team spirit is back! This is Charlton.

Yes you are right, I didn't check the facts out properly, I was told he had won it. Doesn't alter the point I was making! :-)
Loved last night great to see everyone fighting for each other and being top of the league!
Wagstaff showed the composure of a seasoned pro for both our second and third and there seemed to be great spirit. Come on you addicks.
Also I must echo what AFKA said re the negative Parky comments, I was a fierce critic of him, but said in a thread in close season that the guy shows passion and I would argue that he understands the 'Charlton Way'. Interesting views of a Fulham fan!

I make more noise of a night snoring in bed then an average Fulham away crowd!
