[cite]Posted By: stop shouting[/cite]He does it all the time. Why feel the need for making such a broad comment & not backing it up with anything of even remote substance.
as if the whole thread isn't speculation eh. I'm just speculating that it isn't Varney.
as said read the rumours thread, it may give you a clue. BTW, I don't do it all the time, cheek. The last time I did I suggested Worner as a signing about a month before he signed. As WSS says sometimes you hear something but are asked not to pass it on.
especially for stop shouting, from the rumoursrumours thread posted by Callum cafc AKA Parky :
'Aren't we supposed to be looking for an additional striker/winger?
What about Joe Anyinsah, who left Carlisle in the summer after scoring 13 goals in 47 appearances over one and a half seasons? He can play both positions and would add great competition.'
I think the interesting thing is that Clough suggested a season long lona with a possible permanent transfer. If Varney has just one year left on his current contract that would make sense as he is likely to earn less when the deal given to him by Pardew "I was going to sign him for West Ham" exipires.
If we have another first choice option, as Large suggests, we should still be following up on Varney and a few others. It is, surely, better to have to turn down a second (or third) choice player than end up with none at all.
I'd be more than happy to have him back if the alternative is to end up having to play a player that is not ready or out of form. The options from the bench against Oldham were pitiful (no disrespect to those on the bench) and even if Varney failes to live up to the potential that we thought we were signing in 2007 he will bring something to the squad that we won't have if we go with what we have currently.
However, Im more than happy to trust Parky's judgement, so if this players that Large has mentioned is thought to be a better opion than I'm more than happy with him.
I think our only real option to change things from the bench now is Sodje. That shows how exposed the squad is as Mambo, Stav and Tuna are not ready yet IMO. If the three signings we are speculating so much upon are the right ones, then we could be looking at a very good season. if not, we will surely struggle as injuries/loss of form take their toll. Personally, I would love Varney - He is a player who is decent Championship (not top championship, which is what we needed when Pardew bought him). In league 1, decent Championship is more than adequate. In fact it would be a fantastic signing if somehow we could pull it off.
Parky has said Varney is one of many players we've made enquiries about. So he may or may not be one of the players we're hopefully signing in the near future. He might be first choice or one of the alternatives.
He fits in with us being after a winger/striker, but he's the obvious one as we've all heard of him. Not everyone had heard of McCormack or Francis so the new signings really could be anyone. We thought we might bring Forster or Mooney back but Parky came up with others who will hopefully prove to be better signings.
And if we don't make 3 signings we can always get someone on loan a week into September. After Reid and Jackson's loans and later transfers no one can really moan about loanees. They prove it's just about finding the right ones and them being available.
As RM has said, the club is viable in the Championship, but not in L1.
This is our last chance to get back on track, and we need players on the bench who can come on and change the game - past examples being Steve Jones, Garry Nelson, Paul Morts, etc etc.
Parky has to make the right signings this week - it's crucial.
Cant see the Varney thing myself , unless there was an add on thing within his transfer--say Derby have to pay us more dosh if he makes X amount of appearances-- if that was the case then maybe we could get him at a bargin price or loan. Think his wages are still to high for us though.
Feck me. That's going to be a lot of fun for Varney, standing on the halfway line with his hands on his hips as Blackpool get smashed every week - especially away from home.
Varney is about as Premiership class as Akpo Sodje.
Still, can't deny Varney the chance to fulfill a lifetime ambition and play in the Prem.
I don't suppose Varns can believe his luck ......an unexpected chance in his career, non-league to PRem.
Especially after what Pardew promised him to get him to sign for us ......(!)
Blackpool could potentially have a chance but outside of Wigan teams like, WBA, Newcastle, Sunderland, Bolton, Stoke etc all look too strong, last season with Portsmouth, Burnley and Hull they would have had a chance.
The bottom line is that Varney is all that Blackpool can afford - no shame in that - and that is why they are buying him.
Smart move really, they should use this as a stepping-stone and keep as much of the TV money as they can for next season rather than do a Hull and waste it all of Giovanni and Jimmy Bullard.

Got to be just as informative as a rumour thread.

now, does that help you at all ?
